Market House on the Square
The dining room has a warm clubby vibe while the bar is welcoming and cozy. In warm weather there is no place as beautiful as the 80 seat patio that also offers comfortable lounge seating to enjoy a cocktail.
The five private dining spaces are the ideal location for business meetings and dinners, family celebrations, rehearsal dinners and showers.
Monthly special dinners include summer Pig Roasts and wine dinners.
The appetizer of deep fried zuchini was amazing the entrees were disgusting
Upscale Pub like atmosphere food was good and reasonably priced. The server was very nice but forgot to bring us several things such as wine with dinner and cappuccinos with our desert.
The asparagus salad. Asparagus stalks were grilled and too tough to eat. The fried egg on top didn't add anything. The only good thing about the dish was the argula and slivered parmesan cheese bits.
The heirloom tomatoes looked tough and unapetizing
Market House is a beautiful place for sure. Wood floors, painted brick walls, fireplace, great windows. Foccaccia type bread on the bread tray was awesome. Guest and I had chicken bowls for lunch, which were good, was expecting maybe a little lettuce, but first experience with "bowl" food, so I guess a "bowl" has nothing to do with salad (separate generous little heaps of chopped chicken thigh, black beans, rice, red onion with a chipotle-bbq sauce type dressing). It was delish for sure. Husband had club sandwich, which he enjoyed. We were with his sister from out of town, and were allowed to take our time and have a relaxed chat. We were not made to feel rushed or in the way at all. Our beverages (iced tea and cola as well as water) were refilled several times, without our having to ask. Overall, lovely experience, would return.
Enjoyed a lovely lunch on the patio. My favorite spot to dine whenever I’m visiting Lake Forest!
Nice place near the theatre we attended. A lovely “find”
Food was very good. Drinks and service a bit slow but good overall.
Can’t find a better place than Market House. Great menu, service , and ambiance when you can sit outside.
Cuban sandwich was great; French fries didn’t seem fresh.
Love this place, only reason that I didn’t give it a higher rating was because there was an annoying fly buzzing around our indoor table the entire meal.
Everyone could not have been nicer or more agreeable. Had trouble finding place open for lunch on Saturday for a small bridal shower. Market House was the place! They let us drop off cake and favors, order off menu and keep surprise from bride. Waiter was great. Very attentive without being annoying. Very nice guy who kept everyone ‘s glass full. Food was really good. Everyone had something different and everyone really enjoyed their lunch. Lived in area for many years. Now that I have moved away there is finally a really good restaurant in that building. Looking forward to our next visit.
Wonderful service, great food, love the calm atmosphere. We will be back soon
We meet here often. Creative menu. Friendly, attentive and patient service.
There is wonderful outdoor seating in the back of the restaurant, covered by an old oak tree, and overlooking Market Square in downtown Lake Forest. They also have seating in front on the sidewalk. We sat there. One other couple. Very quiet. Service is always great. I had the Spicy Tempura Shrimp appetizer as a meal. It’s perfect, small bites size pieces, sriracha aioli Shrimp was very tender. Other diner had eaten earlier and only had the brownie dessert with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. She loved every aspect except the choc chips sprinkled on top. It’s a texture thing for her so she moved them to the side. I love this restaurant and eat here regularly, at least twice a week.
I had such a nice evening at the Market House. We sat in the bar area in a nice booth which was perfect for my red wine and burger craving. The fries were the best I've possibly ever had. The starters were great too. You can't go wrong to give this type of night to yourself!
Outdoor seating was a great environment for dinner
lovely setting. great service, we stop by often.
Very disappointing. Interior dining room & bar were practically deserted on a Saturday night. Despite having made a reservation, we were seated in a small, dark area off the main patio. There were no other diners in this uninviting section & it’s clearly a complete afterthought for staff. When our waitress did arrive, she announced how tired she was & seemed perturbed she had to actually wait on us. Slow & completely unengaged. Food quality was mediocre: scallops were undercooked & there were nests of wilted watercress on top of both our entrees (?). This was our first and last visit.
We had to wait for an hour to be served our main course. Plus the restaurant was no more than 2/3 full - on a Saturday night.
We love this place but my daughter had a bad meal. Poor quality steak & uncooked dough on the zucchini fries. We informed the server but no action was taken. I also emailed the restaurant. It was disappointing.
Excellent location in downtown Lake Forest for lunch, drinks or dinner. The staff is so very nice and the food is delicious.
Dining on the patio was wonderful - felt like a taste of Europe. The food was a huge disappointment and our server was constantly at our table and too many hand gestures.
Service was very nice. Sat on the patio. Steak was ok. Crab cake was very good. Drinks were excellent. Nice place to go to.
We sat outside in the courtyard. It was very nice. My dinner was supposed to be mostly vegetables, but it was mostly noodles. The small onions were cut in half but still had the tough outer layer on them, which made them hard to eat. However, the service was outstanding.
We sat on the patio so the noise level was nil. Their patio is wonderful, overlooking downtown Lake Forest and covered by a very large, old oak tree. I had the shrimp appetizer (can't remember the name) and it was large enough for two or a meal for one. We returned this night specifically because my daughter was craving their Cuban Sandwich which she had one other time. Wonderful neighborhood spot.
Good food, good service. We will be going back.
The food, service and ambiance here never disappoint!
Excellent service and wonderful choices. We enjoyed ourselves. We love the outdoor patio also.
If you have a baby, I don't recommend. They do not have baby changer. Love this place but can only return after my kids are older enough to use the restrooms by themselves? I was surprised this restaurant doesn't offer such a basic thing.
Sat outside and enjoyed the food
Outdoor dining is fabulous. We brought visitors and they absolutely fell in love with the ambiance and food.
Food was just OK. Maybe we ordered the wrong things.
We sat on the patio and it was a lovely atmosphere. The food was great!
This was our first time dinning at Market House and we were a party of 4. Once we were through the door we were greeted with a warm welcome and given a chose of sitting in the bar, dinning room or patio. It was nice to see the tables well spaced with attractive and comfortable deco. Once seated in the patio which is partly shaded trees and umbrellas, we were imediately greeted by the busboy who oftered us water and bread. The menu offers a nice sellection some being comforting classics like Grilled Sustainable Raised Fresh Salmon or a creative Amish Chicken Meatballs. Thier commitment to local produce was very apparent from the flavor of the delicious dishes we had. Our only regret is that we didn't have room for one of the temting desserts. Wonderful service and great food!
The food, service, and lovely garden seating was all wonderful. My friend and I each enjoyed the delicious Thai Bowl. Anything I have ever eaten here has been delicious!
Perfect weather for a fun long cocktail lunch catching up with friends on the patio. From the healthy bowls to the delicious egg salad BLT, our choices were delicious.
We eat at Market House a lot for lunch and it is always delicious with good service. Last night we had a special occasion so we tried it for dinner. Seemed they were over committed which resulted in a very long wait for food and not great quality once it got to us. Disappointing given it was a special occasion for us. The server did comp our first drinks which a decent gesture.
It’s pretty pricy but the food quality is horrible. My salad was salty. My flatbread was not tasty.
Outstanding as always! Great place to meet friends/colleagues for lunch.
