Marjorie Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Don't know what I expected but this was one of the best dining experiences: From our wait staff, cocktails were delish, appetizer- could have ordered for entrée because it was so good, and the entrée- I actually asked wait person to compliment Chef Fernando. Then the owner, Donna, actually served our dishes.
This was just a Sunday-let's-eat-out-and-try-a-new-place! Parking and walk to courtyard convenient!
Our first time here and we loved it. This place is quirky and fun, with character. We started at the bar and ended up dining much later than the time of the booking, but only because we were asked if we would rather wait for a better table and decided to do that, we were happy to wait, the bar was nice and the atmosphere buzzy but also very relaxed. Service was very good, attentive but again relaxed, in a good way :-). Food was delicious, my husband had the chocolate cake for desert and said it was one of the best he had tasted, my pasta was made in-house, light, tasty and delicious. The plantains were also scrumptious. We will be back for sure, a lovely quirky place full of character serving tasty, fresh, creative dishes.
We ate at Marjorie as part of Dine Out for Life. The fact that they support this should be reason enough for you to go there. The meal was wonderful - nice cocktails, delicious bread, very good recommendations for wine and great entrees. The entrees seemed a little pricey but come with delicious vegetables and potatoes that made the price very reasonable. It is a cozy spot where we had nice conversations with fellow diners. Our thought after dinner was, "Why haven't we been here before?" We will return soon.
We loved the decor - quirky, full of light, and welcoming. My one complaint about the space is that the tables are so close together that it is almost impossible to avoid hearing any conversation at the table next to you. The one server was remarkably efficient and attentive, despite having to welcome and seat everyone as well as to serve them. We liked the white Burgundy a bunch, & I can tell you that the people next to us (who I honestly tried not to hear) worked in the wine industry and they liked their wine too.
I ordered the $33 halibut and the roasted carrots with cumin yoghurt. The halibut was crispy outside and moist inside, just as I wish I knew how to cook it. The plate with fava leans and peas as accompaniment was beautiful, and the food was delicious. The downside was that the portion of halibut was minuscule - maybe 2 oz., measuring at most 3"x 2" and a thin piece. Upon eating everything on my plate, I was still hungry, and I am not a person typically needing big portions. Consequently, we ordered bread at the end. It was fairly dry but the black salted butter was great. My husband liked his flat bread very well, but still finished most of the extra bread, so I think he was hungry after his meal too. We shared the carrots. They were wonderful, and that portion was plenty for two. As I looked around at what others ordered, their portions looked ample, so maybe we just ordered the wrong things, or they had only a little halibut that night. We definitely will go back, but possibly will order differently.
We have always enjoyed dining at Marjorie since it was originally in Belltown. The food is always good but we noticed a couple things this time. The space needs to be warmed up. It's nice for the summer but upholstered chairs would warm up the space. There should be an entry vestibule so diners at the table next to the door aren't crowded by people waiting for tables or the weather. A seasoned waiter/waitress would better justify the cost of dining there. It was obvious they had little experience. Although the food was tasty, one dish came warm while the other was nice and hot. It may have been an off night?...
We are here a few nights ago with friends that have move to Seattle from New York and were sad that the personal touch/excellent service seems to have disappeared. My husband ordered the burger and was told that he could not make any modifications to it, even though all he wanted to do was to order it without anything on it. When it arrived, it was covered with aoli, which he hates, and the waitress made a stink about the fact that he hadn't ordered it without the aoli - hello, you told us he couldn't make any modifications. Anyway, they seemed to have a plain burger on hand so the replacement came quickly. Sorry, but half the charm of coming to Marjorie was the excellent service. Now that has gone it doesn't seem like such a great place.
Unexpected gem that will be added to my regular list and I'll consider myself lucky when I can dine there. The atmosphere is special -- warm, full of small lights and candles that give a cozy atmosphere. The service was friendly and attentive. Our server noticed that I did not drink much of my cocktail (too strong for me) and tried to fix it for me, and simply ended taking it off the bill -- without my asking as I considered it my bad for ordering something I shouldn't have. The FOOD -- OMG. Impeccable, delicious, perfection. I was with girlfriends and we split the barrata, flatbread, roasted carrots, risotto...just an amazing meal. We finished with the toffee bread pudding -- I would go back just for this. This is a jewel of a place and I'm sorry it took me this long to discover it!
The plantain chips and dip was very good. Unfortunately the duck was mediocre, the apricot Brussels sprouts were severed without apricots and very small portion. The burger and fries were below average. I would only recommend them for appetizer or desserts not sure the rest is worth the price.
Marjorie does not disappoint! Ate there several times (dinner and HH) with one other companion, with a few friends, and with a group, and the experience has been all excellent. The food always hits the right note in terms of the classic/contemporary balance in preparatino, the ingredients are often seasonal and always fresh, and the drinks are lovely. In my most recent visit I had the steelhead with lentils, foraged mushroom risotto, and beignet, and they were all sophisticated and beautiful without losing that comfort food character. I also like the decor and atmosphere of the place. No wonder this is one of my favorite Seattle spots to bring my out-of-town guests.
Was really looking forward to this evening of fine dining. It got off to a great start with the owner bringing us water.
Then, it went from bad to worse. Even though it was early evening 7PM, we were told twice that the drinks we wanted to order were not possible to order because they had ran out of something.
Then they brought 2 of 4 drinks, leaving the margarita and mohito to arrive another 15 minutes later
Then the meals too were 50 minutes from order to arrive and were all very average quality.
Then the waitress sort of apologized for how poorly every thing had gone , except only to blame other staff members and customers--BAD FORM!
We entered the restaurant and were virtually ignored by staff for almost 15 minutes. They continued to walk right past us not one stopping to greet us or say hold on a minute I will be right with you. Finally I was able to get the bar tender's attention and he helped us, but none of the wait staff or hostess said a word to us until we were seated.
I loved everything about this place. Very fun, not too loud, great service great cocktails -their Purple Rain cocktail is amazing! The reason I didn't give 5 stars for the food was because I was given the tail of the salmon I ordered. Very thin piece, a little tough, actually not much fish at all. I know the dish would have been better if I had gotten a more reasonable cut of fish. I'm really shocked that they even would serve that piece (and for $36!) My date absolutely loved his rib-eye though. He said it was the best he ever had. We will definitely go back!
Lovely dinner. Recommended by a friend (local, we were visiting Seattle). Cauliflower soup delicious which my cauliflower hating husband also enjoyed. Foie gras small portion but delicious accompanying flavors.
Probably one of the best burgers I have had. For sure spring for the bacon and cheese!
Great date night spot. Would def go again if we are in Seattle!!
The food was delicious. Every time I come to this restaurant, I have a delightful meal (I especially love the plantain chips!). The seating is a little tight, not a problem if all of your neighbors are respectful (and don't mind when you bump them if you have to leave your seat during dinner). I really think they should give a little more room, though. In any case, it's a very urban feel and that I love. Our servers were very nice and helpful but seemed a little understaffed. This is a fabulous restaurant and well worth the wait if service is a bit slow. They're always nice and the food is amazing.
We like Marjorie but this time did not shine as bright as prior meals. I had the pork chop which was good but not outstanding, not nearly as good as the one at Lecosho. My date had theCoq au vin which was much better, the dark rich sauce was perfect for a biting cold evening.
Which leads to ambience. It's hard to have fun if your cold and dinner is inevitably lessened if you have to wear a stocking cap to keep warm. The garage door is great in the summer but leaves the space unbeatable when it is freezing out. As always the crew, led by Donna, was great. Truly nice people.
The restaurant is always way above board. The food, drinks always delicious. The food presentation is always exquisite, and surprising. Wait staff always excellent. Bartender Mikey is ALWAYS entertaining, but what sets this restaurant apart from every other one in the city is the fact that Marjorie ALWAYS checks with you at the end of the meal, to make sure everything was to your satisfaction and everyone was happy with their meal.
It is a special treat every time I dine at Marjorie Restaurant
Great decor and amazing bartender and drinks! The major problem with this place is the kitchen seems totally overwhelmed and our food took over an hour to come. Do not go to this place hungry because you will get very crabby waiting! Hopefully the feedback will be noted and a couple more kitchen staff might get hired!
