It’s kind of just fine. Food is of course good but would put it in the category of uninspired.
We were there for restaurant week and had the $35 3 course deal along side some cocktails. The food was very tasty, the total bill ended up at $300 for 4 of us, and the portions were incredibly small, with the steak frites looking comically small on the large plate. I really enjoyed the food (I had the Char which was excellent, but again small), but felt disappointed. I had assumed the idea of restaurant week was to encourage people to try out new restaurants and really impress, not to offer a "budget" dinner option ($75 a head is hardly budget though). Realistically only about 25% of the operating cost of a restaurant is food, so it makes no sense to me to be stingy with it!
I love this restaurant. Donna is a thoughtful owner and combined with her staff, they make a wonderful meal, create a lovely ambiance, and you always leave satisfied and happy. It's a nice gem tucked away in Capitol Hill.
Service was attentive, helpful and friendly. Cocktails, food, ambiance and service were all spot-on.
We went during Seattle Restaurant Week - on a Monday and early before a play at 12th Avenue Arts.
Not our first time at Marjorie and certainly not our last. We both ordered of the restaurant week menu and enjoyed our choices. There were not too many other diners since it was early. Our waiter was aware of our theater tickets and timeline - so the meal was well paced and we were done right on time without being rushed. We always note in our reservation when we have a time commitment - which is often.
The only down side was the rap music - it was not terribly loud, but clearly picked by the staff without noting the age of those in the dining room.
We often like to eat outside on the patio when the weather allows - maybe next time...
Enjoyed the SRW menu: salad with peas, hanger steak & frites, and ice cream. I think they tried to get me drunk with the three course cocktail pairings.
Very good food and nice casual atmosphere. We found the prices a bit high for a casual dinner and the wine prices expensive.
The food was tasty snd creative. Cozy, friendly environment. Feeling of a european bistro. Great service. I would definitely go again.
We went to Marjorie during Restaurant week. The service was extremely slow and the waiters seemed annoyed when we asked questions. The food was average--when paying such high prices I would expect excellent food. Even during Restaurant week with about two cocktails each, each person spent $100.
Loved the ambiance, but Marjorie needs to step up their game.
There were moths everywhere. Some of our party ordered the steak and they didn’t ask how we liked it cooked and it came out rare rare. The dessert was not great either. Overall is was okay but I probably won’t go back. Staff was nice.
We had an excellent dinner during Seattle Restaraunt week. The special menu was superb. That night they seemed to get a little overwhelmed and so the kitchen was just a bit slow, but the food made the small extra wait worthwhile.
Outstanding hospitality. Beautiful space. Elegant yet comforting dining experience!! Highly recommend
We tried it because of Restaurant Week and we will be back as often as we can. We loved everything about this place! The seasonal menu, wine pairings, cozy interior, and friendly staff made this restaurant a winner!!
We love Majorie. It’s a favorite date night location for us. We highly recommend Majorie.
This is a fantastic spot where the neighborhood gathers, lovely casual atmosphere and energetic vibes, happy hour is only at the bar but dining inside or out is equally enjoyable, the staff are great and so is the food, highly recommend.
Richard, our server, was terrific. Gave great recommendations for food, including sharing some dishes because he didn't want us to order too much food. The Burrata appetizer was a favorite. Also had the halibut, mushroom risotto, and shrimp and grits. I'm typically not one that would order anything with grits, but wow, these were to die for. Hard to say which was a favorite - flavors on each were just perfect. Loved the quaint, cozy atmosphere. Richard also helped with our wine choice which was spot on. Music is fantastic! Oh, and don't forget to visit the bathroom where they have a portable record player (remember those?) and you can put on an album (vinyl) of your choice while....you get the picture. Can't wait to recommend it to anyone traveling to Seattle.
The za'atar carrots were the delight if the meal!
I have been to Marjorie a couple of times, and each time was met with exceptional customer service and great food. This past Saturday was not that case. I recommended this place for a get together with some friends and they had not been there before. When we entered we were checked in and sat in an adjoining room next to the main restaurant. It looked like all larger groups were placed here. (We had five people in our party)
We proceeded to order drinks and then some appetizers. We were told that the kitchen was a delay which didn't seem to bother us until when we finally got our drinks, it was almost 30 mins and 2 of our 3 apps came out 45 min into the dinner. My husband commented when he looked out no one in the entire room got their food either. When we finally got our entrees, (which was probably at this point we have been in the restaurant for almost 2 hours) I asked for a specific bottle of wine which retailed for $58. When the wine came, I briefly reviewed the bottle and then had them pour us a glass.
As the bill came, I noticed we were charged for a much higher bottle of wine ($89) and while this would not be a problem, I did not even know there two types of the same wine with two different price points. When we inquired about this, we were told that "you should have looked at the bottle" before they poured it. I can see where I could have read the label better, I assumed you took my correct order and rather than offer a solution, shift blame entirely on our party.
The redeeming point was the food; it was really delicious and flavored really well, but the service made even that leave a bad taste in my mouth. I would try Marjorie again, perhaps maybe not on a big group or sitting at the bar would have given perhaps better service.
Amazing food. Love this place.
A good friend of mine in the restaurant business once told me that the best restaurants are the ones where you find the owner in the house. This is true of Marjorie Restaurant. I would say that everything is pretty much great. The food, the drinks from the bar, the service, and the ambience --- warm and inviting; lively enough, but unlike many places in Seattle the sound level is not so high that you cannot carry on a conversation.
Great surprise find ... Hushpuppies were awesome. Definitely will be back.
Excellent service. good variety of appetizers and entrees. drinks are delcious and stiff. was worried bc of yelp reviews, but opentable and google reviews were more accurate. very accomodating for our birthday party.
Service was terrible, it took 11/2 to get our food. The burger was extremely small and the beef bourgeon was very fatty. We were asked how we liked our cheese board, which was fine but no one asked about our dinner. We were very disappointed!
Whether it’s for a drink at the bar, romantic evening or sharing a mean with business colleagues, Marjorie is a great destination. The staff is always friendly and menu changes regularly to capture the best seasonal food. You must order the house made plantain chips with variety of dips; in the summer they frequently have ceviche to accompany them. It’s also one of the few local restaurants where the unassuming owner will stop by your table just to check in.
Everything was amazing! As a vegetarian, I appreciate being able to enjoy lots of small plates, instead of the one vegetarian dish which is so common. Marjorie is a delight!
Despite having a reservation, we waited 10 minutes to get seated. Then we waited 20 minutes at the table and nobody checked in on us. People came in after us and had their drink order taken. But, we left to go to a place where we could drink and eat.
Marjorie is our favorite place for a cozy, relaxed but elegant meal. We have celebrated every kind of milestone there. Warm, welcoming, and delicious.
Food is descent but nothing special. Worst service I’ve had in a very long time. We were the first ones at the restaurant and waited over an hour before we got our first appetizer. Which was steak tartar, you don’t even have to cook it. Other tables got their food and left before we even got our first app. Waitress didn’t pay us any attention or even came by to check in on us. Won’t be going back.
Great drinks. Busy place with warm atmosphere. We went for Valentine’s Day so the it was Prix Fixe. Food was great. Small portions
The pre fixe menu was very limited and the items served were small. For example if you ordered the oysters, you got two. I had two oysters, a salad that was mostly lettuce with some apples thrown on top and some pot roast for $95. Huh?! The oysters were overly salty, the salad was blah, like they didn't even try to make it stand out. The pot roast was very good I have to say. The wait between course was ridiculous as well. At least 20 mins before the first course came then another 20 before the salad. The beef came out more quickly but only because we complained that things were so slow. I though the whole point of pre fixe was to expedite? Not the case here. Super dissatisfied with the experience and most of the food.
Horrible Valentine’s Day experience. Crammed into a long table with other couples. NOT very romantic. Prix fixe was $95. 4 courses took 3 hours. The food tasted good, but the amount of food was tiny. We were still hungry after so grabbed pizza to fill up. They really over extended themselves and accepted too many reservations for their space, waitstaff and kitchen speed. Would come back for dinner on a normal night as I would like to try more of their regular menu, but I do not recommend them for a special evening- New Years, valentines etc.
Delightful as always! Mikey is the best. Loved the ambience. Our favorite getaway to be ourselves.
An exciting, fun, and dynamic, seasonal menu that's sure to please. Not the largest portions but Marjorie makes up for that with good wine and cocktail options, ambiance and service.
Donna is the consummate hostess. Marjorie is spectacular!
The menu is constantly fresh, the food always inventive and delicious and the service always attentive and friendly. The owner is there almost every night making everyone feel welcome ( and sometimes waiting tables).
Marjorie is our favorite date night sitting at the bar with their wonderful bartender Michael.
This time we went as a group of six - three couples. Everyone had a wonderful time and loved the food. We were able to talk to each other across the table as well as have a conversation as an entire table. This is not as easy as it sounds. Marjorie is just the right size - not too loud, even when full.
It feels like you are in a family place where the staff all love each other. They put out food that is creative and tasty - melt in your mouth gnocchi, perfectly balanced earthy/tangy beet salad and one of the best tasting steak in town. Those that got the burger - loved it. The staff helped us choose and taste two different wines that we enjoyed but their mojito is my favorite. The plantain chips are a highlight as well.
Great service, fun atmosphere - a little noisy in a good way. Food was very good, not cheap, but high quality worth the cost. Love the history of this place.
Nice place. Will return and recommend when I’m back in town for business.
An intimate space with eclectic, colorful decor and soft lighting sets the scene for a memorable meal. The food was outstanding - fresh, creole/southern-inspired entrees with good portions. Mouth-watering meat dishes and some of the best vegetable sides I've ever had at a restaurant (The veggies on the plate are definitely not just there for "filler" or "color" - they're the star of the show). The staff was attentive, polite, and not over-bearing, which I expect from a restaurant in this price range. Can't wait to eat here again.
Unfortunately the food quality has deteriorated since our last visit. And since it was for as long as we can remember extremely expensive for what one is served, we are not likely to return very soon. Gnocchi were terrible and portions are skimpy.
On the positive side, the servers are extremely friendly and the room and the crowd is great fun. Wine and cocktails are very good. But let's face it, that's just not enough!
