Excellent food save room for their signature desert chocolate egg!
Simply fantastic service by Rocco. Wonderful wine list that is sure to to every enthusiast.
Having been to Maritana twice before, we were looking forward to a fine dining experience with outstanding service. While the food was still quite good, the service this time was lacking in several areas, which is why it saddens me to only be able to offer 3 stars for what should easily have been a 5 star visit.
The service issues began while taking our orders, and just piled up from there:
1. We've noticed a trend among waitstaff (and not just here) to take orders without writing them down. Upon receiving all of our dinner orders, our waiter recited them back to us; 3 of the 4 were incorrect, as was one of the two sides. The customer shouldn't have to repeat the order.
2. I enjoy a martini before the meal. When the waiter arrived, he had the shaker ready to go, but no martini glass, explaining that the bar was "out of them". So he placed a rocks glass on the table and asked if that would be OK. Really surprised that the bartender would even let a martini leave his bar without the proper glass.
3. When the soup course was served, they place many of the ingredients in the bowl, then pour in the hot soup from a small carafe which is usually an elegant way to serve. Except that the soup in one of the carafes was cold. We had to flag down the server to ask for another carafe of hot soup. We also had to ask to bring the bread course - twice.
4. When the bus staff cleared our entree dishes, some fine grated cheese fell off one of the plates and landed on the carpet right next to our table. It remained on the floor next to us throughout our dessert course and was still there when we left. We actually had to step over it so as to not grind it into the carpet, nor into our shoes.
6. One of our party ordered an espresso. It arrived cold; we had to add some hot coffee from our french press to warm it up.
Someday we'll give Maritana another try, but for the next few times we'll try some other dining venues in the area.
It was a special occasion and I was really disappointed. The food was OK, not great, and it look 4o mins to get our meal after the appetizers came. No apology, nothing. Will not go back.
Food was very pricey for such a small portion. We sat next to a fish tank that looked like it hadn’t been clean for a while & only had 1 fish in it. Staff were very nice and accommodating
Food was all delicious! Great server, we had a wonderful evening.
Excellent service from Jeff at the bar. Menu has changed so if you have previously dined here, review before returning. It isn’t bad, just different, with only one steak offering.
fish cooking poor and so,quality of the food not in line with such a restaurant
We have been to " Martana" 3 times in the last 9 months. Always eat 1 or 2 nights here. Fabulous food!!!!!
Have eaten here many times over the years and will definitely go back. The atmosphere of the historic Don CeSar hotel on St. Pete's Beach as well as the restaurant itself are amazing. The service the same. My only request would be to bring back caviar to the menu as the presentation previously - and the caviar - were impeccable. I know that may sound 'snooty' but I assure its a rare treat only on select special occasions - however this restaurant is worthy of that level of food selection to match its service and atmosphere.
Service delightful. Food beyond excellent. A perfect date night.
off the chars, either dress up or casual. Food quality was some of the best ever and we were fortunate to have a very casual and knowledgeable waiter. Will definitely be back
We stayed at the DonCesar and ate here twice. The food is outstanding and foodie-/ locavore-friendly. The wine list is small but has many good selections, both by the bottle and glass. And the entrees were (while small) delicious and inventive.
Service was excellent. Don was very good. Food extremely tasty. Would return
The food is always beautifully cooked and presented. The flavours are amazing without the use of chemicals. I had black bass and it was amazing.
Wonderful evening. Food was delicious and the service left nothing to be desired
Food and wine were excellent, but service and ambience could be improved. Our server was very friendly, attentive and made great recommendations, but despite our specifically asking him not to be rushed (and he directly acknowledging such), we unfortunately were.
Upscale dining and delicious food. Congratulations on a wonderful experience!
BEST service anywhere.
Great meals and desserts
Excellent menu and wine list.
Great service from Don and the staff. Chef is outstanding. Good valu.e
Not for the faint of heart when it comes to price you are looking at $100 per person
Great food, atmosphere and service. We sat at bar , had couple drinks and shrimp cocktail prior to dinner. Dinner at Maritana was fabulous
What is not to love about stone crab? This was all I needed and they were presented beautifully. Yum. The caprese salad with burrata was a bit disappointing - but only because the tomatoes are not in season and were a bit lacking in taste. The burrata was creamy and perfect. The people at the next table were friendly when they realized I was dining alone and even shared menu tips and a taste of their wine.
Save up for this dining experience and enjoy the lovely hotel grounds too.
We made a reservation for my birthday. My husband and I travel a lot and have extensive wine knowledge and enjoy great varieties of food.
The restaurant was smaller than what I expected. The hostess was nice but tried to give us the table behind her hostess stand by the door when we had specified special occasion.
If you’ve experienced European preparation of seafood, go! This young chef is beyond her years in perfect preparation and flavor dynamics as well as display. The octopus appetizer was incredibly tender and paired with bulgar wheat and Castelvetrano olives. Wow! The cioppino had the freshest seafood and scallops with a nice crust to them with thin sliced charred bread for dipping into the flavorful broth. The pompano special was equally perfect.
The downside is the wine selection and ridiculous prices, specifically the whites and sparkling. I was familiar with most of the wines as common grocery store available labels. Some $15-$20 wines were priced at $60-$80 Per bottle while the by the glass was $15-$18.
Cocktail prices were no different $15-$18 each. Had there been an Italian or French wine that I had not enjoyed before, I would have had a bottle. But Kim Crawford for $80 or pat the same for a Chateauneuf du Pape at another restaurant.
The wait staff was mature and the decor was very relaxing with blown glass bubbles and sea life in tanks on one wall.
I would probably return but have dessert (also starting at $18) and after dinner drinks somewhere else.
Very nice place. Very large , high ceiling area. Service is as good as it gets. Numerous people to take care of you, great team work. Started with drinks at the bar, BEST blue cheese olives I have ever had.
Our server was very friendly and really knew the menu. Very helpful with our selection. Food was somewhat not as good as expected. The swordfish was slightly overcooked, but the sides were outstanding.
My steak was very small pieces and a little tough, but very flavorful . Pricing was fair for the quality. We would come back again for a special occasion.
A memorable evening in all aspects . I can’t wait to go back .
Great, but not as great as the price point. I don't normally complain about the cost of great food if it's justified, and although this was a really good meal, it wasn't better than any other high-end steakhouse, and $16 cocktails...
The food was excellent and had a nice booth in the corner which was perfect
Food was excellent as was the service. Our waiter Don was pleasant, attentive and professional. Steak tartare was incredible and so was the tri tale fish entree. Highly recommend this restaurant.
HAVE DINED HERE MANY TIMES DURING OUR STAYS OVER THE LAST 10+ YEARS WHEN LOWES HOTELS OWNED THE DON. FOOD, SERVICE AND VALUE WERE ALWAYS EXCELLENT. THINGS HAVE CHANGED WITH NEW OWNERS. 3 SCALLOP ENTREE FOR $40. 1 STONE CRAB CLAW (MEDIUM SIZE AND GRAINY TEXTURE) FOR $20. TERRIBLE VALUE. CUSINE OVERALL IS NOT AS GOOD AS PRIOR OWNERSHIP, WAS ALL FOUR OF OUR ASSESSMENTS. LOVE THE DON CESAR HOTEL, BUT WILL NOT BE DINING AT MARITANA UNFORTUNATELY.
We had the best table and the best server! Janet was great. She was extremely accommodating and let us split two appetizers so we could each have a taste of the two. Will will ask for her when we return!
On vacation and stopped in for my birthday. Staff and service through the whole building was wonderful. We want to come back again. We actually thought about going back the next day because we enjoyed it so much.
Our first time at Maritana Grille and I have to just say that it was great! Great server and great food. The lobster coconut bisque was great, the Mahi and the Tuna was excellent. Very good winelist. We will absolutely go back again.
Was a nice event, but ..... Maritana seems not a second class restaurant ? Why did we not be warned that the served plate was not as mentioned on the menu???????
( Tuna without Brussels sprouts)
We made the reservation a month ago. No mention of price fixe. Didn't mind except they needed to make changes due to my dietary concerns. Staff was excellent. Very accommodating.
New Years Eve menu was too limited, I asked if I could get something else, they said no. On the way out, people at the bar inside the restaurant were eating off the menu. The salad and pasta were significantly underseasoned, and I was asked if I wanted pepper, to which I said yes. It never came. I asked again, it never came. Our water glasses went unfilled after two requests as well. Then I was informed the house added a 21% service charge on a party of 2.
Amateurish service and too much emphasis on presentation over taste , no effort to serve the food hot.
Spent a great deal on New Years weekend in the hotel, this meal should have been the high point but was, in fact, the opposite. Many other guests agreed there has been a decline in service.
We had the preselected New Years menu. The meal was presented well, taste was good, the setting is pretty basic. Overall nice dinning and good wait staff.
Our second trip to the grill. Service and Great food every time. Never disappoints. Than you for a great Dinner.
We came here to try this place out. We normally go to 1200 Chophouse, but decided to try this place. I think that the steaks are better at 1200 Chophouse, but the service was far superior at this place. I was very impressed with the extras that the chef sent to the table and very impressed with the service. This was truly an upscale dining experience. Thank you. The portion sizes are small but adequate.
Service was slow and spotty. Lamb chops ordered medium were served very rare.
