Maritana Grille at Don CeSar
Before dinner, enjoy cool libations including local beers and craft cocktails at our newest addition, The Rowe Bar (located on the Garden Level), where southern hospitality meets the modern bar. The Rowe Bar offers great views of the sunsets St. Pete Beach is famous for.
The restaurant was far overpriced for the overall quality of the dishes we received. We've not been impressed by any of our entrees and appetizers. The limited creativity in taste and overall preparation of the dishes was a problem. In addition the portions of some appetizers were ridiculously small for $20-$22. In brief, we will not recommend this restaurant to anyone because you can find much better, more creative and more tasty food at a much more reasonable price in many other "fine dining" restaurants in Ste Pete and St Petersburgh area.
Nice place. Service was exceptional, particularly our server Don. He did a fantastic job serving us. His delicious descriptions of the meals helped us decide on our dinner selections. However, his discriptions were much better than the actual meals we were served. Food was mediocre. The taste and quality was subpar. The lobster and scallops were chewy and did not taste fresh. The duck was tender and tasty, but nothing to rave about. Very small portions and very expensive. Left feeling hungry and not satisfied. Be prepared to spend at least $80-100.00 per person for drinks and dinner. Very loud. Had to raise our voices in conversation to be heard over the noise.
Overall it was a nice time, but it was our time celebrating the engagement of our friends, not the dining experience. It was disappointing. A one time visit. We will not go there again. Not recommended.
The service was superb and so was the food. The only drawback from the experience was a family that was dining adjacent to us had a child who was loud which made it hard to hear our conversation and enjoy our meal at times.
The foie gras is most superb and the wait staff is very attentive and you will lose yourself among the wine and champagne selections, you must try everything. Thank you so much for an incredible evening
Wonderful service and outstanding food, this is s must try restaurant. You will not be disappointed.
This is a highly rated restaurant and it deserves its accolades. It was really hard to decide among the lobster, snapper and scallops as the best dish but the consensus was the duck which was absolutely superb. The crab roll and foie gras started the evening and they were excellent as well. We thought things could not get better but we were wrong. The salted caramel gelato was the perfect and most delicious ending. From start to finish, this was terrific. I should add that the service matched the food. Our head waiter was Don and it was his recommendations upon which we relied and he was spot on. As an aside, he had a wonderful announcers voice. Oh, and he ran outside to make sure the valet had our car ready for when we left.
Excellent service and very fine food. Noise level was high due to a large group sitting close by our table. We could have asked to be moved to another table but did not do so. That is something I regret. Waiter's timing and attention was perfect. I would return and would suggest Maritana Grill to others . Especially for a special occasion.
Their salads were fantastic including my favorite with roasted beets. The lobster dish was fantastic. The lobster was taken out of the shell, perfectly cooked and served with the most delicious lobster bisque I have ever had. The bisque had grilled mushrooms and other delights in it. I had a perfectly cook tilefish over a very nice cassoulet. I could suggest adding duck confit to the cassoulet. Paired with their Far Niente Chardonnay, it made a great meal.
Food over salted, noisy, over priced.
Wonderful food and great service. Don was our waiter and did a tremendous job. Our hostess Lucy was terrific. The bartender Noel was entertaining and mixed some great martinis. The food is delicious. All in all a very positive experience.
I would recommend the Maritana because the ambiance quite different and so is the menu. My one negative was the woman who greeted and seated us. She made no effort to be welcoming, we were twenty minutes early and she basically said she'd seat us when the time was right. She made no suggestion to for us to sit at the bar until I asked, and even then it was without enthusiasm. I am willing to go back as I'm always willing to give a second chance, but I watched her be courteous and willing with others behind us, leaving me wondering what the difference could be. I also had to go to her and ask to be seated when the twenty minutes was up, even though she kept walking by us...the only two women sitting at the bar. Hmmmm.
Food was good but I wouldn't say great. Service was attentive. Onion soup was bland and not hot. Filet mignon oscar was tender and flavorville but I thought expensive $54. Potatoes were bland. Pear salad was okay. Hubby had scallops which were very good.
Very Expensive tiny food and drinks. Small menu. Limited options. Everything a la carte. Great service. Nice ambience... just not worth visiting twice.
Very nice. Service was exceptional
great food. we had stone crab claws which very small and pricy. the steak was great. dessert was awesome. great place but not a $400 value for 2 people. be prepared
The cobia fish was awful, couldn't finish the meal. disappointing experience for the price tag
Excellent presentation and flavor. Service was very good.
Outstanding experience! Service was professional and friendly. Food was outstanding. Mussels and buffalo were two of my personal favorites. Great wines, some we brought and some we bought.
When the fish entrees are north of $40 I call that a little pricey. Nevertheless the setting is elegant, service is polished and the food very good. Onion soup is deconstructed into something healthy, the big gob of cheese on top replaced by a cheese-flavored cracker. Cornish game hen is meaty and tender. Very good dessert: a pomegranate gelee wrapped in chocolate. It was a special occasion and they did come through.
New menu is uninspiring. The first time in 14 years I’ve had a mediocre meal at Maritana
First we were sat in a corner where the waiter said the lighting failed earlier. We could barely read the menus. Next, the service was very poor. I ordered a white wine and after 15 minutes and was almost finished with dinner was delivered a red wine. My salad was totally overdressed. My wife’s fish was over cooked . Our friend’s filet was well done when ordered medium rare. The waiter told us the fois Gras was not a mouse and it was slices. It arrived and was a mouse. We don’t mind paying for an expensive dinner. This experience was a very poor representation of Dan CeSar’s reputation. We would not return to this restaurant and would eat in the casual bar cafe instead. Management needs to address this mess.
Our waitress, Janet, was wonderful and very professional. Grest food. I had the red snapper and my husband loved the lobster. My sister and b-in-l split a filet and said it was prepared as ordered and delicious.
Thank you for the magnificent experience!
We had a lovely evening! The cuisine was quite innovative and delicious giving us a fantastic dining experience. I would recommend the Don to anyone wanting to give the best of St. Pete experience. We will return.
Excellent foods, service and ambiance. Pricey but worthwhile.
We were celebrating 3 birthdays, so it was a special event for us. We had a great time, tried a lot of new foods and they made it really memorable. Great ambiance. Loved the giant moray eel.
My wife and I had a wonderful dinner at Don CeSar. Dinner was excellent, as was the setting and service. Everything was delicious. We shared everything. Now, I want to go back!
The restaurant will go above and beyond for anniversaries.
Truly friendly staff who offer great service. Even had a visit from Chef Emily Ferrari. Bartender and waiter, both names Geoff, were very helpful and attentive.
The food was excellent. Service was great. I'd go back.
Extraordinary meal and excellent service
Was one of my favorite. Food was very disappointing for what they charge. Will not return or recommend. Used to be a five star restaurant. Very poor food. Menu choices very limited. Seafood choice very poor. Was much better 5 years ago. I think you need a new chef/ Dining room manager. We stayed at the hotel. Wifes birthday. Hotel service was great. I felt we got ripped off with the food service. Will not return until assured that changes.......
The Grille continues to be consistently excellent across all evaluation categories. Make sure you say hello to the eel in the fish tank when you dine. However, I do miss the mood pebbles that used to be placed by the dinnerware at the table. Maybe that tradition can be reintroduced.
Unfortunately I must give our experience a very poor rating. My friend has food allergies and with no bartender on duty our waitress had to figure out what drinks had what ingredients and had to make the drinks. Not a great start. She never told us the specials (which we later overheard from a waiter at another table—too late). My friend had scallops that were so salty that they were inedible. My fish was beyond dried out. And finally, the banquet we sat on was worn out and threadbare. At this price point, or for that matter any price point, they need a reset. We are from out of town, so a wasted evening.
This was a nice finish to our vacation .Evert thing, food, service, and atmosphere was perfect
My wife’s birthday and maritana was up to the occasion. Fabulous food, wine and service. I recommend highly.
Overpriced. Underwhelming. Chef wants to do good stuff...but execution is poor. Oysters? When we’re these shucked? Gem salad? Good...but very small...like 6 small leaves of lettuce. Coffee rubbed filet? Sanka flavored meat puck. Whole butter poached lobster? 3oz, stringy, nearly flavorless. Dessert? How do you make chocolate bland?
Our waiter, Jeff was very inattentive, did not check on our food or tell us about getting parking validated. Disappointing.
Weak performance by Mariana! Fish was over cooked and dry, lobster was supposed to be Maine but more the size of a Caribbean lobster and again over cooked and lacking flavor. This was a New Year’s Eve dinner and understand the hectic nature but repeatedly the Mariana continues to disappoint!
I was very disappointed in the wine we ordered. The list said Caymus 2013, when the bottle came out, it was 2016. When I complained to our waitress, she left and said she talked with the manager and he would take care of us. I trusted your establishment and low and behold, you gave us a free dessert to share! Are you kidding me? You could have at least charged me for the cost. They sell for 89.00 at total wine, you charged me 175.00, not real happy.
We ate here twice in one week because the food was so delicious and the service was so warm and welcoming. Highly recommend, but it is pricy.
