I wouldn't make a special trip to dine at Marisol, but if I'm already headed to the MCA for an exhibit or an event, I would dine there again. The food and service were quite good, but the bus-person had to lean over my table to serve the adjoining table. Although the restaurant was less than half full Marisol was quite loud making conversation difficult.
Thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. First time here to eat since they closed upstairs and renovated down. Great food, drinks and people! Loved it!
Excellent service and outstanding food.
Marisol's food and service is top-notch. Food is inventively prepared, it's not your run-of-the-mill restaurant. The sunflower hummus and homemade crackers were outstanding, as was the pear endive salad, squash entree, and poached salmon with lentils. Healthy never tasted so good :-). Our server was friendly and attentive, and extremely knowledgeable about the wines and menu items. Highly recommend, fit for foodies.
Loved the experience! We were there for a birthday, which was acknowledged by candles on the donuts! Very fun! Had to keep asking for water and the service seemed a little slow. Overall, great time!
Delicious, inventive food, and Emily looked after us beautifully all evening - thank you Emily!
We loved every minute of it! Our server, Emily was amazing!
Delicious food. Sunflower hummus is amazing
This was our first-time visit to the Museum of Contemporary Arts and Marisol is one reason I will be back. Some museum restaurants coast, knowing they have a captive audience. Marisol is not such an establishment. I found the food menu to be interesting and the service very good. You can get to the restaurant without having to pay an entrance fee to the MCA.
Noise, and that is what it was coming out of the LOUD speakers was offensive! I always ask for a quiet table, AWAY from speakers, which is why we were seated right under speakers, I guess.
And I went at 1:30 when you think that the yellers and screamers would have departed.
Very unpleasant atmosphere, lends credence to my theory that the noise level in a restaurant is set the way the waitstaff wants it; good for them. I don't need to go there or to leave tips; I will leave and take my business elsewhere.
Dodd is great; always very creative and good; love this place!
The food was wonderful, the servers were so nice and the music was perfect.
Oh, I j ust LOVE Marisol! Chef Sarah Rinkavage kills it every single time, especially on the vegetable-centric dishes (which always seem to be my favorite.) Do NOT miss the squash/n'duja dish, or the carrot and beet dish. And that artichoke hummus with the crispy flaxseed "cracker" - divine! It's especially ideal for an early bite before Lookingglass Theatre shows, just a 3 minutes walk away! Love Marisol.
Our server was especially helpful, courteous and attentive. We enjoyed our meals and plan to go back soon.
Brought wife on a date. She tepid of my restaurant choice...till we got the first course. She said it was one of the best meals we have ever had. I completely agree. Days later we are still talking of the meal. More memorable than our recent trip to EMA.
not sure how long they've been open, but I've been in Chicago 30 years, and had never been. WILL GO AGAIN!. Nice cocktails good wines and a knowledgeable server made for a nice experience. Try the beet/carrot salad with cured egg; not egg-tasting, and delicious. Skate wing was perfect, and the chilled octopus was a small portion but done quite tender. A bit pricey by-the-glass wines, but this seems to be a a trend around the city.
Loved everything about Marisol. Food was delicious. Try the poached salmon and the carrot salad.
Great house salad and grilled cheese with ham
What a gem! Museums are typically not known for world class restaurants, but this one breaks the mold. Can’t wait to get back!
First time on this restaurant after many times passing by and waiting for the right opportunity to visit. It was a great experience and will repeat soon for sure. Fantastic food and excelent service. Completely recommended.
Our server was excellent and helped us select several items to share. The food reflected the creative cuisine nature of the restaurant, but in a few instances resulted in complex flavors competing with each other. For example, the beet salad with carrots was nothing like what I expected.
Excellent all around. We enjoyed the food, the service and the ambiance.
I love Marisol. The ambiance, the food but we had a few uh ohs.
The pasta with the shrimp had to be sent back. It smelled bad and tasted like iodine. Yuck. Should have never made it out to the table. The desserts also, were not at all exciting. They don’t compare to the food there so next time, I will pass on dessert.
There was a party going on so we got less attention than in the past. The rest of the food was delicious, as always. It’s so good that you expect everything to be that good but this night, it wasn’t.
We had out of town visitors and tickets at the Lookingglass theater and had read great things about Marisol. We were there on a Thursday night and were pleased that we had a table away from the lively bar so it was quiet enough to easily talk. Our server was lovely and made sure we were served in a relaxed way but enough time to get to the theater down the block. Everyone in our party loved their salad (the beet and the butter lettuce) and were generous enough to split. We all loved our entrees: the beef, the saffron shrimp dish and the quail—-great seasoning and flavors and presentation. And reasonably priced for fine dining. Will be back!
The second we said, vegan, the waitress described the entire menu with focus on what is vegan and could be made vegan. A level of service I just don't see. The meal was outstanding. We recognized the Lula Cafe DNA. How in the world can you make a small bowl of olives taste so incredible is just beyond me. The portions looked small, but were exactly right sized. The espresso was perfect, slightly fruity and tart. It paired perfectly with the rye dessert (who would imagine that would taste so amazing).
The room is deceptive, it isn't really a big open carry out place. The booths along the wall are intimate and warmer than I expected.
Overall, one outstanding experience. Chicago museums have really stepped up their food game.
Super delicious, inventive, modern, creative food.
What a find! Marisol, by the same folks as Lula, is just smashing. The sunflower hummus, the fish, the vegetarian plates -- everything is delicious. Very knowledgeable and approachable waiter helped with the wine choices. We'll be back!
Only been for brunch. It’s never too busy or crowded and the food is always good. Ive enjoyed everything I’ve tried here: bagel and lox platter, veggie burger, burrata toast and brisket hash with sweet potatoes. My go to brunch spot before shopping on Michigan ave.
The food was unique and quite tasty. Maybe a little expensive for what one gets. The service was outstanding and the atmosphere was good but I wish more of the MCA and its style/art was incorporated in the setting somehow
Fantastic time. I live 2 blocks away and brought my sister and her boyfriend who were visiting from Dc.
The restaurant accommodated our table requests and everything else. Thank you so much!!!
Very helpful server and great food.
Marisol was delightful. The ambiance is quite fitting for a contemporary museum—fresh, unencumbered by patterns and colors but stately in the white background. The menu is unique. Each offering from appetizers to salads to entrees is appealing but unfamiliar in their descriptions. Lots of nuts are used in preparation of food so one should checkout the ingredients if a nut allergy is a challenge. The vegetable burger was delicious and filling. The homemade chips that accompanied the sandwich were very good too. My dining friends had the green salad with apples and could hardly finish them. Portions are well endowed and fairly priced. Many around us had wine with their meals and the wine offerings also looked good and well priced. I’ll go back.
Food is off the charts good!
The food was fantastic - this restaurant has maintained its quality since opening - and also presented in a lovely manner. Serving staff are friendly, pleasant, and accommodating. And, we even found street parking across from the museum!!
As usual, we had a wonderful meal. There were two of us and we shared the Marisol salad and the carrot beet salad. The Marisol salad is a solid standard, the perfect balance of tartness and floral notes. I had the lamb pasta and my husband chose the eggplant pasta. Both were absolutely delicious in their own ways. The service was delightful (Emily was our server) and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with you. Thank you!
Food is inventive and excellent.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Mirasol last Saturday. Emma, our waitress, was most knowledgeable about the entire menu. We have been looking for our “go to” restaurant in CHI and we believe that we have found it at Mirasol!
Great food but the wine list is not good. It needs help.
the restaurant itself felt very cold. i came here as a surprise for a birthday- but i wish i chose a different restaurant. there was nothing special about this restaurant aside from the fact that it's in the MCA (which is what drew me here in the first place). our server was nice and very attentive, but i will never come back here. when i dine i like it to be an experience- ambiance, food, and service. this was severely lacking ambiance to the point where i felt like i was in an airport cafe.
The food is delicious, gorgeously presented in a wonderful, open setting. Attentive, gifted wait staff too!
