In Marcus's own words, “Mariposa is personal to me. It is representative of my belief that no matter what challenges we face or transformations we go through, our shared food experiences will bring us closer. It helps us understand one another’s traditions and allows cultures around the world to tell their story." At Mariposa, we will bring many cultures together around the table and provide a global experience right here in Charlotte.”
Wine and cocktails have also been chosen to complete the theme, so Slovenian Cabernet Franc and Grecian Assyrtiko are a small part of the well curated 100+ bottle wine list that focuses on wines under $80. "Step out of your comfort zone and try something new" says Sommelier Brad Grubb. "You may just find a new favorite".
Get setting and environment to catch up with old friends
Beautiful restaurant and the service was good. I was celebrate my bd I had a good experience
Date, husbands, first time at Mariposa. Definitely we’ll be back.
Great atmosphere! Yummy food. Great service w/Khalid!
Food and service were very good. Parking is difficult if you are not familiar with uptown parking. The 'sofa' chairs are uncomfortable and low.
Fantastic food and overall great experience. Only critique is that we were told to order all food at once. Unfortunately the pacing of the food coming out was incredibly quick. Didn’t allow time to enjoy our cocktails before the entire meal had arrived.
Magical- cannot wait to return.
Recommend for a special dinner. Everything we had was delicious.
The food is terrific.
We started with the Mezze Board which was absolutely delicious and beautiful to look at. The Corn Friitters were heavenly and a wonderful blend of flavors, not too hot or spicy at all. Our meal ended with the beautiful Chocolate Mousse. The tiny chocolate pearls across the top made for a perfect dividing line for sharing. Lovely service and friendly atmosphere with other diners and wait staff!
We loved everything about this restaurant. The only thing we didn’t love was that we sat squished right in between two other tables. Even without covid, we felt like we couldn’t really talk without our neighbors hearing us. We also were inches from rubbing shoulders with our neighbors even though there were several open tables. Other than being cramped in, we thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. Our server was very attentive and great, the food was excellent and the revocation to the space was awesome. We’ll definitely go back and just request a different table!
I went for my boyfriends birthday and I called and specifically asked if anything was done for bithdays and they assured me they do a birthday toast and they added it to my reservation. They didn’t do anything for his birthday which was kinda disappointing. Other than that it was a pretty good experience.
We had several small plates including Tuna Crudo (amazing) Olive Foccacia (soft, buttery, delicious) and Salmon (soft spread on toast points, very good). Then we shared the paella which was full of great seafood. The service was a little slow even though the restaurant was not that crowded, we got there at 6pm. My biggest problem was sitting on the couch to eat dinner. I am not a tall person so when I sunk into the cushions I could barely reach my plate. I ended up trading places with my husband so I could have a chair to sit in but spent the entire meal looking down at him. Who wants to eat a delicious meal and drink great wine while sunk into a couch cushion !! It may look cool but its highly impractical.
Every food we tried, and we tried many, was delicious. Highly recommend the yet to be named mushroom dessert.
What a wonderful addition to Charlotte’s restaurant venue. Beautiful surroundings, great food, wonderful service
We went for a group birthday dinner and the service and food were amazing! We were so excited to try everything on the menu we attempted to split items across 8 people and that probably wasn’t the best decision. We only got a bite of each thing and some items were difficult to split up that many times. If you want to split items I’d say the max is 4 guests. But the restaurant was very accommodating to our large group (I would go back with a big group again I just wouldn’t try to split dishes). We had a blast and can’t wait to go back!! I wish I remembered our servers name- he was ON POINT with everything! Highly recommend!!
Food was amazing
The cuisine was very good, however, the serving portions was not adequate for the pricing.
We went on New Year's eve and felt rushed by the staff.
Awesome service and food was superb!
Upscale date night in Uptown Charlotte, above the mint museum. The vibe is modern, classy. Food was outstanding, especially the short ribs Definitely recommend for a date night, nice dinner when I want to get dressed up!
Outstanding food service and atmosphere. Bravo.
The music should come down just a little bit.
I’ve eaten here twice and love this place. The staff is very energetic and friendly. Our server ( can’t remember his name) was amazing both times. Very personable and made us feel at home both visits.
Food was amazing and full of flavor, oysters were large and fresh. Beautifully plated dishes and upscale, modern decor. Music was a bit loud for trying to have a conversation.
The shrimp kebob and tuna starters were amazing. The chicken piri piri was not quite like what we had in Portugal, but it was so tender and delicious just the same. Amazing and unique old cocktails, great wine and the apple dessert was also very unique and delicious. Our waiter, Dane, was so great and made our experience special. We will definitely be back. So far our favorite restaurant in Charlotte by a long shot!
Wonderful food - creative and delicious. The room decor is is quite striking. In every way, Mariposa is a sophisticated fine dining restaurant you’d expect to find in a major city. A very rare find in Charlotte.
Everything was mouthwateringly delicious. Service was outstanding, Dane & everyone was very attentive but not overbearing. Will absolutely visit again soon.
First time at Mariposa-- been to Halycon many times.
Server Carlos is a gem-- pleasant, witty, personable and had some great recommendations.
The 4 of us shared everything- Piri Piri chicken- delicious, cauliflower- outstanding, mezzi board was great and the paella was better than we expected.
Nothing to even think about-- all delicious and all well served and presented.
The music could be toned down a bit...
Can't wait to return!
The food, the service, the ambience!!!! One of my favorite restaurants in Charlotte
Had the best time at Mariposa for my moms birthday. The food was AMAZING! Service was great and so were the drinks. Will be back again. 10/10 recommend.
The drinks were wonderful. My wife's "colada" was definitely the best we ever had.
We ordered the roasted mushroom toast for an appetizer. It is an amazing treat with some creaminess, some garlic (probably from the Boursin cheese), herbs, and more. The slice of bread underneath was just great for absorbing all the moisture. What a perfect accompaniment to the drinks.
My wife ordered the salmon - just prefers it medium. It was cooked to perfection, somehow still moist inside. And the cucumber wrap around it was great (So she says, she did not share.)
I ordered the short ribs - slowly cooked so the meat was almost like eating a vegetable. The spicy crust and chimichurri were a perfect match.
No room for dessert - just had coffee.
Oh, and the service was attentive and excellent - not intrusive so you can eat and converse!
Mariposa was an amazing experience! The service, the signature cocktails, the wine list and the menu A+
I love different kinds of foods and spices. They did an amazing job with their menu. The spices aren’t too overpowering and they compliment the food well. I would have given them 5 stars for their food except two of the smaller dishes were way too salty. The mushroom & the tuna. Dial that back and these will be amazing dishes! Thanks for a great night.
Just gorgeous & delicious all the way around. Carlos, our server, was wonderfully attentive, had great suggestions and fabulous sense of humor. Every detail was well executed. I wanted to take everything home with me, from the flatware and furniture to the wine and food.
Wonderful menu & food. Very friendly & helpful staff & a pretty setting. Look forward to coming back.
Love the aesthetic and the food was good, our waiter was very nice as well as the manager
Decor is beautiful- they did a wonderful job changing things up from the previous Halcyon. Very lounge like and relaxing. Service was extremely slow. Took us 20 min (no exaggeration) to get greeted and to receive waters. Drinks too awhile but there was only one bartender and he seemed in the weeds so that was expected.
Food was great. Shrimp skewers and mushroom toast were amazing. Seafood paella was good- not great, but good. Salmon was amazing. Overall, a good experience. We all we will be back . I didn’t make the top of our list for dinner but we all agreed we would love to do drinks and apps there.
Perfect venue before the symphony
Miss you Halcyon, Long Live Mariposa!
Great experience! Tuna Crudo, Pork belly and short rib were amazing. The cocktail were lovely-maybe a little on the sweet side. The waiter was knowledgeable about strictly gluten free options for our son, who has Celiac.
Atmosphere was very cute and energetic. My favorite dishes were the mushrooms and the fish camp. This is a great girls nigh restaurant.
I chose Mariposa because the menu looked interesting and the location was very near to the Knight concert hall (across the street) and to the hotel where I was staying. It did not disappoint! Items are meant to be shared, but if you are dining alone, as I was, you will not be overloaded with food. I highly recommend the roasted mushroom small plate, the half-bird Piri-Piri chicken large plate with the squash casserole side dish. If they have salted caramel ice cream as a dessert, get it!
