Marina Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I had sushi for lunch a couple months ago here and it was fantastic! So I decided to come for dinner with my boyfriend Saturday night. We were both really disappointed with the portion size of our main course. We had the salmon and halibut, which was very expensive.... both over $30. Sadly my salmon was dry and over cooked. Also our house bread came after we had already had our appys and when we were half way through our main. Because of these reasons I won't be coming back for dinner.
We were visiting Victoria with friends from Germany and a friend from Seattle recommend Marina to us. The setting is fabulous. My wife and I both had the lamb which was good but could have been better if it had been cooked medium rare. The octopus squid appetizer was excellent as well as the oysters. We didn't try the sushi but it looked good. We will definitely go back when in Victoria.
Delicious food, beautiful presentation. The Manhattan cocktails we ordered were very well made. We had a lovely view of the marina. I had the poached halibut and my husband had the bavette cut steak, very tender. We will go back! Service was not rushed, some may call that slow, we found it relaxing.
We ate at the Marina every night of our week long stay 21 years ago. We came back 21 years later and were so pleased that very little had changed. We were blessed with a kind and competent waitress who listened to our story. The food was exquisite and the view relaxing and memorable. The best restaurant on Vancouver Island!
We visited the Marina on a busy Sunday evening on a long week-end - probably not the best time to visit. It fact the server said we would do 'better' to come in on a Wed or Thurs. The restaurant was crowded but that didn't affect the service too badly. However we did have the impression that the busy kitchen rushed the food preparation a bit. And as with many restaurants, the wine list is over-priced for what was on offer. But the view and atmosphere remain pleasant so we will probably return, but never again on a holiday week-end.
The location is fantastic. Sushi is fresh and well prepared. The halibut was well prepared though the sauce was a bit heavy. The tuna dish had way too much going on. Many sauces and condiments that were very tasty but clashed with each other and overpowered the tuna. Cocktails were Great!
The food was very bland and lacking in seasoning, my scallops were cold, slightly undercooked and the menu selection was VERY limited. Beautiful view, nice atmosphere and average service, but with the high pricing, lack of properly cooked/seasoned food and limited selection, it will be VERY unlikely that I return with my family again.
Marina was recommended by a local friend for our first visit to Victoria. We loved everything about it, especially the unique combination of flavors the chef instilled into every dish we tried. The harbor view was spectacular, service excellent, prices reasonable. But, what blew us away was explosion of taste in every bite...very creative cooking with local ingredients. If there were 10 stars I would give Marina every one.
Service was good, not great. For instance, Rusty was personable but seemed quite busy. I ordered a nice glass of red wine for with my steak with good lead time and yet steak came first and wine about 5 minutes later. Not the end of the world, but not great. My rib eye steak was undercooked.
My friends and I were customer of the Marina restaurant another night. The food we ordered were delicious, and the service we received was pretty good. We were celebrating a special occasion, and i woud like to pay for the bill without letting my fiends know. I went to my server directly and ask to pay for my bill. I was stopped immediately, and said it was a private area and I should be waiting in the bar. There was no clear sign, and I did not mean to be rude. I was kinda offended, but consider the good food and service we received, I felt much better. Anyway, I am still going to go there and recommend to my friends of this restaurant.
We used to come to the marina at least 3 times a year for special occasions such as birthdays or mother's day. The first time we came the food was amazing. Nothing was made incorrectly and the flavours were as they should be. This time the food was sub par. The service was a lot slower. We had to remove plates ourselves to make room. The water stayed empty often. The watermelon had gone bad, the potato's were overly salted, and the salmon was a sloppy mess. The desserts were simple and uninteresting. We used to come for flan but since changing pastry chef the food has gone down hill. We won't be back.
Was recommended by a friend to eat at marina in Victoria and was disappointed.
Service was lacking, was very long wait to even place drink order and had to ask for basket of bread after being there 30min and bread that was brought was dried out on outer edges. Salad was great but steak with chimichuri was lacking the chimichuri seasoning both me and my husband ordered diff steaks but meals were the same spices-should have more variety.
My dirty plates sat on table for over 10min while other busers were making new tables but restaurant was nearly empty therfore we never ordered desert and was unhappy paying 160 for a bad experience.
We were looking for a special place to lunch with a cousin we hadn't seen for a long time. The Marina Restaurant offered location by the water with a view (essential for a guest from Alberta), a casual but classy environment, and good food. On this occasion, the Marina exceeded our expectations on all counts. Our server went above and beyond to introduce himself and make us feel welcome. Service was prompt but not so fast that we did not have lots of time to visit. My cousin's dietary request for no carbs was nicely accommodated. The fish and chip report was very good - light fish and addictive fries. My felafel salad was excellent. We will definitely be back.
We arrived on time and were told that our table by the window was not available and they had put us in a booth. Not acceptable.
I had specified a window table on the reservation and also went to the Marina at Noon to be certain that was the case. At noon I was told that they had reserved our table by the window and was assured that is where we would be seated.
The appetizers were good but our steak tasted like vinegar (was marinated they specified) but I did not expect it to taste like vinegar.
Excellent service and great food.
The food presentation was creative and appealing and the servings were just the right size.
The seating gave a wonderful outlook.
All making it a very pleasant place to enjoy and appreciate a special time with friends.
It was a very busy luncheon occasion and I was very impressed with the hostess handling and even turning away guests in a very friendly and helpful manner.
The friends I had invited for their birthdays and myself had a lovely meal and shared a dessert. Service was very good and I will be back as it is one of my favourite places for a special lunch.
After a disappointment at another local restaurant brunch, my family and I had brunch at Marina on Dec 27, and it was an enjoyable treat! Thank you for the lovely service staff, and excellent value for excellent food with a stellar view! Especially enjoyed fresh sushi, the large variety of desserts, and amazing carving station. Only recommendations are for better mashed potatoes (these weren't fresh nor creamy), and traditional stuffing not just the cornbread kind. Loved the Eggnog Brulee and creamy seafood dish.
