About Maria Pia

Although many restaurants in the theater district bill themselves as trattorias, few achieve the authentic feel and taste of Maria Pia. This charming Italian eatery boasts comfortable indoor seating for 80, a sun-dappled, 20-seat, rear outdoor garden, and a genial mood that makes the menu that much more savory. The three-course prix fixe menus offer dishes slick enough for savvy palates that still taste as if they were cooked up by mama Maria herself.

They kindly honored our reservation even though we were stuck in traffic and called to say we would be a few minutes late. The pre-fix menu looked great (but we ordered a la carte - because we didn't want dessert).
This is a great location to Broadway shows and we have visited several times for pre-theater. Wicked is a block away.

My husband and I chose to eat at Maria Pia's prior to heading to Broadway. We chose the restaurant based on reviews and it did not disappoint. The food was really good and we were well taken care of. It was very busy at the time we were there, but the management and the staff were on top of it and made you feel very welcome. We will go again.

What a lovely experience. On a very, very busy Saturday night, pre-theater, our waiter was as fast moving, pleasant, and efficient as anyone would have wanted. The food was excellent and the service fantastic. This was my second visit and I am ready for a third!!

Wonderful Italian spot! We felt like we stepped into a little corner of Italy. The food was excellent, wonderful ambiance, good service and reasonable prices. We went before the theatre, a perfect place to go to make it a great evening all around as a date night.

We had our after-theatre pasta here. We shared the burrata to start: perfect, soft, fresh. Then the pastas were terrific, perfectly al dente and delivered exactly as described. The service was attentive and friendly. The bartender made a great Negroni and Aperol Spritz. Wine list very reasonable. It was our first time; we will put it into our regular rotation, for sure.

Very convenient for pre-theater dinner if you are seeing Wicked. That's why we chose it for a cold night.
There were only a few other people there, so restaurant was quiet and service was excellent.
However, the food left something to be desired. (Maybe we made poor choices.)
Buffalo mozzarella with tomatoes and 1 basil leaf: cheese was ok (nothing special) and tomato was tasteless and in wedges instead of slices. Presentation left something to be desired. Someone else at table had mixed salad which was fine.
I had the shrimp on skewer with rice. The shrimp was obviously not fresh and wasn't very tasty. Other people at table had cod fish, salmon and chicken marsala.
My guess is we might have been better off just having pasta.

The atmosphere was very poor. We had a reservation but were still put in the back room even though there were a number of empty tables in the main room. the atmosphere in the back room was very poor and the heat was not functioning properly on an extremely cold evening. There was an attempt to adjust the heat at our request but it did not make much difference. Based on our experience we would not come back.

Food was great, service fast and friendly. However, there was a major problem with the reservation made through open table. We waited 45 minutes to be seated for our 5:30 reservation as did many other patrons. It was challenging to wait outside in the cold. Not sure if this was a problem with the restaurant or Open Table. However, once seated we were served quickly and made our curtain.

Delicious Butternut Squash potato vegan soup!! A must try: Calamari Zuchini appetizer. Excellent service and food. The rigatoni Italian sausage was perfect and so was the salmon dish. Very friendly and helpful staff. This was a pre-theater lunch and place is walking distance to Gershwin theater.

Very pleasant. Nice Italian restaurant. Comfort food as well as some creative options. Wide wine selection. Food was very tasty. Attentive but not obtrusive service. Very cozy atmosphere. Reasonable prices considering the location. The only problem was the noise level made conversation difficult, but that's a common problem.

Asked for quietest spot; instead, we got table by kitchen that was in a really noisy, high-traffic area that became smoke-filled during our meal. Food was average; calamari was really nice, but fish entrée was a little greasy. Unlikely to be back.

Very friendly, professional staff. Restaurant jammed packed with people and our table was next to the entry to the kitchen so we couldn't hear each other speak. When trying to enjoy dinner before the theatre, we would appreciate being able to carry on a conversation. Recommend limiting guests so fewer tables are occupied. The location was good and the service was fast so we were able to get to our show on time.

Maria Pia is always a great choice for our pre-theater dinners. They get very busy around prime time (6ish) so reservations are definitely needed. The food is excellent, portions are generous, and service is attentive and helpful.

Food was great! We were seated on back enclosed patio so it was VERY loud. Could not have a conversation with our group of 5 very easily. That said, the food was great. And the location to our theatre was key.
