About Maria Pia

Although many restaurants in the theater district bill themselves as trattorias, few achieve the authentic feel and taste of Maria Pia. This charming Italian eatery boasts comfortable indoor seating for 80, a sun-dappled, 20-seat, rear outdoor garden, and a genial mood that makes the menu that much more savory. The three-course prix fixe menus offer dishes slick enough for savvy palates that still taste as if they were cooked up by mama Maria herself.

This is my go-to restaurant in the theatre district. Great location just off 8th Avenue. It has a nice buzz but never overwhelmingly crowded. the food is fantastic especially the Tortellini al Nonna and all the meat dishes. The shaved pear salad and fennel salad is wonderful Caesar salad is really bland. This should be a standout here. Nice wine list. Good standard desserts. Very gracious staff.

We dined with our granddaughter and her husband prior to attending a Broadway show. The restaurant was exceptionally busy for such an early hour, probably because it was a holiday weekend, which caused the noise level to be extremely loud. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals and and the service was outstanding.

Second time here, just as fabulous as the first! Drinks on point, octopus appetizer is so delicious, had completely different main dishes than from the first visit and not one complaint. So happy we found this place

My husband and I went before seeing a show and it was a perfect pick. It was walking distance to the theater. The seating was close but still pleasant. Out food was delivered extremely fast, it was hot and well cooked. The turn around time was impressive, so impressive, we had an hour to kill before our show started. I would definitely recommend this as a great place pre show.

We reserved s table like many people but tables were not ready and we were left waiting for s long time. The wrong drink was brought and waited 10 mins for the correction, food was unattractive pasta bolognese and waiter finally offered cheese half way through meal. Left food and left restaurant wishing we had gone somewhere else. They had over booked on a busy night and failed on all counts.

The place was packed. It was very loud. Our server was not too helpful. Came to check on us once. My wine spilled all over the table when they brought the food and no one brought anything to clean.
Food was ok. The spaghetti with meatballs was good.
They have limited dessert -tiramisu, cheesecake and something else.
I don’t think this is kids friendly restaurant

The food was great and reasonably priced. The service was excellent. We didn't have to ask for anything. Very attentive to our needs. Other than being a little too close to the table next to us, the atmosphere was very nice as well

Pre-NYC Marathon Dinner. Good pasta options, bread refills. A little too hot inside and weird perfume smell throughout - table candles? Typical cozy tables-close-together trattoria as in Europe. Attentive waiters.
Around the corner from our hotel - happy with our selection. Prices not bad for NYC.

Packed restaurant and very lively. We were starving after a long flight from Europe. I had the spaghetti meatballs while my wife had the Red Snapper. Both dishes were nice but way too salty - like most meals here in the US. Service was good and attentive but was a bit shocked to find a tip had already been charged to my card. Thought that was a bit cheeky. Other than that, a nice spot to enjoy dining out.

Hubby & I in nyc for a long weekend (we live in Florida now) . We always try to plan a dinner @ Maria Pia before a show. Food is always outstanding & service is exceptional. A reservation is a must as it fills up fast.

We went early for a pre-theater dinner. Service was prompt and attentive. The food was quite good. However, although tasty, my tortellini was slightly undercooked not al dente as it should be.

As other reviews stated, unfortunately it was true. The bread was cold and not very fresh. Portions were very small. My ravioli only had 5 pieces on the plate, yes it was very good tasting but I left hungry.

We dine at Maria Pia's, several times a year, for either a pre or post theater meal. They offer a prix fix menu, that is reasonably priced and good service. This time was was no different.

Our first impressions of the restaurant were good. It is nicely decorated and drinks service is prompt. However, that is where the positives end. We were harassed by no less than four different members of staff whilst taking less than five minutes to select a bottle of wine. We were given a complimentary bread basket with three varieties of bread, one of which was very nice. However, the other two were stale! To make matters worse, after having eaten the bread, I witnessed a waiter refilling a partially eaten bread basket and placing it on a different table! The food was very poor and none of our party could finish theirs. Despite this, not one member of staff asked if there was a problem with our meal when clearing the plates. Then, we received the bill and it was a complete rip off! We were hit with an 18% service charge which was absolutely farcical given the quality of the food and service. I would never go back to this establishment and would recommend giving it a wide berth if you actually enjoy Italian food.

Maria Pia never disappoints! Our first time back in a year or more, but already want to return soon. Everything was delicious, fresh, perfectly served. The prix fixe menu is very good, and reasonable. My wife and I hosted out of town relatives, and we all had a great experience. Highly recommend!

The waiter that seated us was not very cooperative when we requested to have a different table than the one that he assigned to us. The place was almost empty at the time so we were surprised by his rudeness and lack of cooperation. He later apologized after I complained to another waiter.
The diner was fine and the service very good. The waiter brought us a Pannacota for desert on the House. That was very nice and it is appreciated.

Food was very good. Portions as well. Our 2nd visit here was a solid B+. Bathrooms are single use and situated in a very busy hallway, as the service folks hustle back and forth. But that is the sole pan about the place. Waiter served us two shots of lemoncello liquor on the house at the meal's conclusion, which was appreciated and seldom seen these days. Cozy and comfortable atmosphere. Our second stop at Maria Pia will surely not be our last!
