About Maria Pia

Although many restaurants in the theater district bill themselves as trattorias, few achieve the authentic feel and taste of Maria Pia. This charming Italian eatery boasts comfortable indoor seating for 80, a sun-dappled, 20-seat, rear outdoor garden, and a genial mood that makes the menu that much more savory. The three-course prix fixe menus offer dishes slick enough for savvy palates that still taste as if they were cooked up by mama Maria herself.

No wonder there were reservations available. The food is terrible and the service is equally as bad

We arrived early and asked if we could be seated or if we need to wait, we were willing to come back at our scheduled time. There were several empty tables and the host agreed to seat us but not before telling us we would need to hurry. We enjoyed a lovely meal, all preparations were excellent. When we ordered dessert, coffee, and after dinner drinks our server checked in with someone that we presumed was the manager. They both looked our way and one of them rolled his eyes. Everyone was attentive and I do understand this is a busy spot but rushing guests and making impolite gestures was really uncalled for.

Food is excellent and drinks were good. Unfortunately, they're more concerned with turnover than service. Drink orders, appetizer and dinner orders were rushed, food came out too quickly and the experience left my husband and myself almost out of breath. We we're actually told by one of the staff that each party is only allowed 1-1/2 hours at a table, although from the time we walked in until the time we got the check was only 55 minutes, not even the allotted time...not a pleasant experience knowing your meter is ticking before you even sit down.

We had the pre-show prix fixe meal - due to weather we were late to lunch but still made the show. Great value, good food, perfect location.

Have eaten here several times. Always a great meal. They have outdoor seating in back for warmer weather. Ate indoors this time. Great food, good price, excellent service. One of our favorites when visiting NYC.

Food was fabulous! Had the fish stew and raviolis, the polenta; everything was delicious. Service was notable as well. We were eating pre theater and this place was the perfect option.

Food was delicious but they were seating walk-ins before reservations. Once we were finally seated things started off well with great bread and then a salad but then the 2 tables next to us got their dinner and ours never arrived. We were sort of stuck at our table in the corner so when we finally got the attention of the waiter he gave a look of shock and said it would be right out. Our dinner arrived about 10-12 minutes later. When we receive our meal our plates were messy as though they have been plated very rushed. I was glad to eat but surprised there wasn’t even a sorry for the wait.

Very pleasant stonshpere with warm feeling. Greatest st door and seated immediately. The service was attentive and good but not overbearing.

The food was nicely presented and was good. The menu offered many choices but we did the price fixed lunch which enough for us an very fairly priced.

I would not hestitate to go back again and can recommend the restaurant without any reservations.

Maria Pia is consistently good. The food and the service are great. We started going there for after-theater dinners, but have recently started bringing friends and family there as a general night out in the city. There is a back room that can accommodate larger groups - we recently had a group of 15 back there, but looks like they could accommodate 4 times that.

Wow!!! I️ am astounded at my experience here!!! Not only did they make me the most AMAZING Vegan meal for me BUT, when I️ was going to the bathroom I️ dropped my ring down the drain when I️ was taking it off...I️ asked them if there was any way they could find it and they said come back tomorrow and you will see....we finished our drinks and when the bill came all of a sudden they had found my ring! This ring was so meaningful to me it meant the world that they had spent the time and energy to return it when they were already busy with other customers...this restaurant is AMAZING!!! And they gave us drinks on the HOUSE! Highly recommend to ANYONE I️ am so impressed with my experience! Normally wouldn’t write a review but I️ feel that they were worthy of it!! Amazing food and experience please come here you will not regret it!!!!

It was a delightful restaurant. The food was exceptionally good and the price was very reasonable. The service was terrific and the staff was very friendly. I plan to go back again and to recommend it to anyone who's looking for a good dining option near the theater district.

This is my go-to restaurant in the theatre district. Great location just off 8th Avenue. It has a nice buzz but never overwhelmingly crowded. the food is fantastic especially the Tortellini al Nonna and all the meat dishes. The shaved pear salad and fennel salad is wonderful Caesar salad is really bland. This should be a standout here. Nice wine list. Good standard desserts. Very gracious staff.

We dined with our granddaughter and her husband prior to attending a Broadway show. The restaurant was exceptionally busy for such an early hour, probably because it was a holiday weekend, which caused the noise level to be extremely loud. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals and and the service was outstanding.

My husband and I went before seeing a show and it was a perfect pick. It was walking distance to the theater. The seating was close but still pleasant. Out food was delivered extremely fast, it was hot and well cooked. The turn around time was impressive, so impressive, we had an hour to kill before our show started. I would definitely recommend this as a great place pre show.

We reserved s table like many people but tables were not ready and we were left waiting for s long time. The wrong drink was brought and waited 10 mins for the correction, food was unattractive pasta bolognese and waiter finally offered cheese half way through meal. Left food and left restaurant wishing we had gone somewhere else. They had over booked on a busy night and failed on all counts.

The place was packed. It was very loud. Our server was not too helpful. Came to check on us once. My wine spilled all over the table when they brought the food and no one brought anything to clean.
Food was ok. The spaghetti with meatballs was good.
They have limited dessert -tiramisu, cheesecake and something else.
I don’t think this is kids friendly restaurant

Pre-NYC Marathon Dinner. Good pasta options, bread refills. A little too hot inside and weird perfume smell throughout - table candles? Typical cozy tables-close-together trattoria as in Europe. Attentive waiters.
Around the corner from our hotel - happy with our selection. Prices not bad for NYC.

Packed restaurant and very lively. We were starving after a long flight from Europe. I had the spaghetti meatballs while my wife had the Red Snapper. Both dishes were nice but way too salty - like most meals here in the US. Service was good and attentive but was a bit shocked to find a tip had already been charged to my card. Thought that was a bit cheeky. Other than that, a nice spot to enjoy dining out.
