This was our second trip tp Maria Pia. The service and the food were wonderful.
If you're coming here with intentions of being seated on time for your pre-theatre dinner and getting your check so you can roll out to your show on time, GO ELSEWHERE. If you're looking for confused servers, claustrophobic bathrooms, feeling like you're always in the way, and forgettable italian, you've come to the right place.
Crowded, noisy, and fun. Food and service were very good. Great place to eat prior to seeing a Broadway show
I have been here multiple times. Never disappoints. Outstanding food and service. The restaurant/manager is great at accommodating Pre-theater dinner patrons. Reservations honored on a busy Saturday night. Bronzino and gnocchi were delicious. Octopus appetizer was also good! Not rushed!
Great pre and post Theater experience. Always consistent and a must try!
Went there after a matinee Broadway play. Filled up shortly after we arrived. When we left many people were waiting in the street. Seemed they either overbooked of people just took their time dining. We had the feeling they were rushing us out but were not too unfriendly about it.
The food was very good and the wine we ordered was great. A bit on the pricy side - 2 entrees (no appitisers), bottle of one of the lower priced wines and cappaccinos ran approx. $140 with tip.
The seating was tight. They pack a lot of people into a small place but the food is good and the server was attentive without being invasive.
Great place — food was excellent and the staff was friendly and efficient —- until we asked for separate bills — sorry we upset you!
Have been to Maria Pia many times over the last few years every time we visit New York, and it keeps getting better and better! Large menu featuring a wide variety of Italian specialties prepared with a light touch. Excellent veal, fish, and seafood! Service is attentive and caring, even during pre-theater hours. Great choice for pre-theater, but leave extra time as the restaurant is at the northern edge of the theater district, and you really don’t want to rush through a wonderful meal.
We dined her 3 years ago and HAD to come back because the food and service were so good. We deserved a table for my daughter's 18th birthday and we were just as happy with our meal and service as the first time. FIVE STARS FOR MARIA PIA!!!
Lovely place and wonderful food!
Just had a great dinner. Started with calamari appetizer shared by three of us. Followed by the beet salad for 2 of us and I had the pear and Gorgonzola salad. Excellent! Entrees we ordered were gnocchi, cioppino and the special veal Osso bucco. All great. Panna cotta, cheesecake and tiramisu for dessert. Great wine list. Great service. Wasnt rushed at all. Enjoyed everything. Will be back.
One of the best restaurant experience we ever had Everything was perfect.
I have eaten here many times. The food and the service is always excellent. This time the noise level was very high. The restaurant was packed and bustling. A huge pre-theater crowd. I prefer it on the week nights when it is a bit quieter.
It was good. Place is always too warm.
Excellent food, excellent service & very reasonably priced!!! Will be coming back 😊
They accommodated us for a group of 15 it was wonderful! Thanks!
Great New York City experience. Would go back anytime.
Great service and food
Never a disappointment..Food and service are always excellent. Whenever we go to the theatre we have dinner here.
Very quick service! Was in and out in 45 minutes. Great for seeing a Broadway show. Excellent food with great portion sizes.
Perfect Italian menu experience before or after seeing Wicked on Broadway!
I came here with my family who was visiting and we all had an amazing time! The food was incredible and the service was great. I love this place and I will definitely be back!
Overall, a very enjoyable experience. Food what very good (though my girlfriend's chicken parm was microwaved a bit too much). My salmon was delicious and perfectly cooked. Root vegies were in a great sauce (mostly butter, probably, but with a distinctive taste beyond that).
The service was excellent....how those guys move around in such narrow isles is remarkable; almost a ballet!
Value for the price (especially the Prix Fixe menu) is very good.
Very unaccommodating group of people running this establishment. They like to say "No" a lot. They are not very customer friendly either.
They would not honor the pre-fixe dinner menu for early dinner on a Saturday although no restrictions printed on menu or mentioned when I made the reservation. Also, our waiter limited our selection of dessert to the pre-fixe options. They would not even serve us regular coffee or tea - cappuccino and espresso only.
The veal scarpariello was like shoe leather and inedible.
We will not be going back.
PS - the toilets in the restrooms don't flush, very appetizing.
We love Maria Pia! It's one of our "go to" spots on our many (average 15 x per year) trips to NYC. We have, and will continue to sing its praises to family and friends. Good food, service and value in a great mid-town locale.
Always di well here before shows. Service attentive. Food realiable
Went there before the theater. The service was excellent and everyone's dishes were good. Pastas and fish. Found this without recommendations online and was not disappointed.
Been to this restaurant many times and never disappointed. Service is great. Will be back again
Our server was Alessandro and he provided a phenomenal service. The manager should maximize OT features to make the extra step for customers that have many options. I noted on the reservation that it was a birthday celebration for my mom (only 2 guests so easy to identify the birthday person) hopping that a candle were on the dessert and not luck..I’m not looking for free stuff but details that create memorable experience.
Very good Italian food... it was perfect for preshow as well...
With limited time before theater, the food order went swiftly, and the food came out delicious. I hope to go back again without a rush.
The value for the quality of food is terrific. I went three times (two dinners and one lunch) in one week and was not disappointed at all. The service in the evening was a little more spot on than at lunch, but not a reason to take it off the "lunch venue" list. Easy in and great location. Enjoy!
The food was delicious, the service was efficient and friendly, if a little slow--but then we were there at the peak of dinner traffic. This was my second visit within the week, and I’ll be back!
Party of 7 after theater. Very accommodating. Great food, excellent service. Would highly recommend and would return next trip to NYC.
Quite a little surprise!! In the the city for the nite and this little gem was only a block and half away. I was so impressed I wanna try all of his restaurants
Food ok, not great. Felt rushed. Very cramped space. Wine overpriced. Menu nothing special.
I love Love this place best food ever
Great experience. Good variety on menu.
I’ve been dining at Maria Pia for over 10 years. This time was my last. The noise level was deafening. The service was excellent but the food left much to be desired. The fried calamari was rubbery, the tomato sauce tasted as if it were from a jar, and the rest of the entrees were bland. There are far too many great restaurants in NYC to visit where one can enjoy a truly excellent meal.
