The restaurant is beautiful. The service was excellent. The food was delicious, but the portion was minuscule. I was there for brunch and ordered the Salad Nicoise. Very well prepared but occupied half of the dinner plate... seriously, when it was presented, I thought that the Chef forgot half of the salad.
All of the food was very good except the pork chop entree. It was very fatty and was much thinner than we were told it would be.
Among the greatest service I have ever received. Cheese service was extraordinary but not overwhelming
The food was excellent, especially the Dover Sole. It’s a low key elegant dining room. I had a very imaginative cocktail. We were very happy with our experience.
Ordered the Amish chicken roti which was disappointing due to being over done. Also, expected more of butternut squash. Have enjoyed M.Menna dining in San Francisco, this did not compare in any way.
Really incredible dinner w real professional and attentive staff. HIGHLY recommend the Lobster potpie and the 2q oz dry aged steak ! Honestly looking forward to going back.
The last time I was at this former restaurant was named Balsan and also part of the Ria (2-Michelin Star) fine dining space and under the former 5-star Elysian Hotel. But I loved the new Margeaux’s Brasserie with its wonderful French light menu & fun cocktails. The decor was of a casual French authentic Brasserie in Paris and a fine contemporary menu that fits this Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.
My head Server was Kelly who was from the original Elysian staff and was the most hospitable, accommodating, thoughtful and provided the most attentive, awesome service as she noted that it was my birthday and didn’t disappoint me—but converted me to love this new Michael Mina Margeaux’s Brasserie! I will be back again soon!
Great night out enjoying French food!
The meal was fabulous. The service was the only thing that lacked. We waited too long for refills on our wine and the service after the entree was lacking. Overall, an amazing experience with awesome food.
We were very disappointed in the quality of the food. The amuse course was a tasteless, dry duck croquette. The foie gras appetizer was the only hit. While the steaks themselves were good, the accompanying bearnaise sauce was too thick. The duck fat fries also lacked flavor. Even the French cruellers were accompanied by lackluster lemon curd. The service was over the top, but perhaps overdone. Overall not a lot to recommend.
My daughter went to this place a year ago and continued to praise about the staff, food, environment. I was finally able to go with her Saturday. She said the place had completely changed. The food was terrible, no taste and cold. We ordered two dishes that we were going to share. They brought the sandwich which we split and then ate. We had to wait about five minutes before the salad came. Again not the quality my daughter said she had last year. The wait staff never gave his name, smile or came back to see if everything was ok. We complained to Bo the manager and his attitude was the same. He said "please email me with the problems" "we want to improve" no I'm sorry, please have a cup of coffee in us, I'll be happy to deduct 10% of your bill, have a free drink in us when you come back etc . I will NEVER go back.
Beautiful food. Shared Heirloom Beet salad, Diver Scallops and Coutlotte! Tender, well seasoned and nicely seared meats. Thoughtful Amuse rillette and complimentary macaron afterwards. Will definitely return! Also tried Happy Hour on a different night and coffees in the morning at Petite Margeaux.
We went with our family a party of 6 for a celebration dinner. Not our first time dining at the property. The food was excellent but we had to ask at first for water, than find someone to take a drink order and the service through out the meal was very disappointing. With so many options in the neighborhood we were embarrassed and disappointed to say the least.
The food was overall okay. Unfortunately not like expected and priced special - just okay for the most part. The food was partly cold when being served, silverware wasn’t on the table when the next course arrived, no sugar was handed for the coffee afterwards, courses were brought out befor even finishing the prior one. Overall the organization of the NYE dinner was very poor.
The ambiance was great, loved the jazz music that was playing. The service was outstanding. The food was tasty, but expensive for what you got.
We experienced Margeaux Brasserie for happy hour, dinner, and Saturday brunch.
Pros: The upscale casual atmosphere; the French bistro menu selections; great appetizers; terrific breakfast foods. Very solid all the way around.
Cons: The bar drinks (we had Martinis, Cosmopolitans, Negronis, and three of the specialty cocktails over 2 days) were all very unexceptional. The specialty drinks were overly fussy and strangly spiced and the classic cocktails were all unspectacular and better made in my kitchen. We switched to beer, and eventually to drinks at another bar/location
We scheduled a holiday outing for four women with spa treatments followed by drinks and dinner at the Waldorf spa and Margeaux Brasserie. With at 5:45 reservation (bar opens at 4, dinner menu starts 5:30 but it is one space) we arrived early for drinks. The bar area is festive but has tiny tables. The booths opposite the bar are for dinner only but the hostess, when asked, was friendly and seated us in a booth so we would not have to move for dinner. It is a tight but attractive space. The issue began as soon as our waiter came to the table. He had a sour look on his face that continued through service. He clearly did not want to be there and given his shift must have just begun, was remarkably disinterested in any type of service. He was outright rude when we had menu questions and rarely checked on us in spite of a light crowd. We literally began to be entertained by his sheer rudeness as we anticipated it with every interaction. This might have been moderated had we been wowed by the food but it was decidedly average and even odd. The gruyere fondue was a fluffy mousse with little flavor, the salads just plain odd tasting. The tarte flambé was tasty. We opted not to pursue entrees after this initial disappointment and could no longer endure the dour negativity of the waiter. I am sharing this review in hopes the restaurant takes notice as I believe the experience could have been much better with a server that remotely served the purpose of his job.
We had an awesome breakfast and James was the best. Thanks for recognizing my birthday.
Space definitely felt like a hotel restaurant. Overall too pricey for what it is, especially as a good French bistro executes most of these dishes much better (e.g. Bistro Campagne).
Very disappointing and bland Christmas menu. Maybe it's because the items were not standard on the menu, but if you're going to serve a limited set (9 options total incl. dessert), I expect it to be perfectly executed. We have seared D'artagnan foie gras better at home. Pastry for the vichyssoise tart was poorly done and not flaky at all. Flavorless lamb that ate like it had been kept on a warmer. (Maybe because we were last seating for a set menu?) Duck was passable though maybe too fatty for some. Dessert was decent.
Food and ambiance were terrific. All of the servers were so friendly and helpful. A bit slow, but, beautiful and delicious meal.
ambience, food and service all perfect. Been to Margeaux quite a few times all hours. Consistently good food and service and charming too. Something for all types and tastes.
The brunch atmosphere was outstanding. Live music, moderate noise level, and delicious food.
Love it here! Delicious food & wonderful service.
The food and staff were phenomenal. The sommelier was knowledgeable, but not pushy. The staff treated our two year old son wonderfully. We can’t wait to come back.
Second time here for Dinner and simply the best!
Such a sleeper surprise! Went for our anniversary and were treated like royalty... the grilled oysters were out of this world good, highly recommend!
Our server was outstanding. The food is mediocre and overpriced.
It was everything I expected an more! I’ll define pry be back with friends and family and will highly recommend this fine dining establishment to any one who asks for Chicago restaurant suggestions! Pure gold!!
Nicole the sommelier was wonderful. She truly made the night exceptional by taking the time to educated about various wines. Alex our waiter was terrific. The food was very good, not exceptional but very good. We will be back.
Amazingly delicious! Great service and decorated so beautifully for the holiday's!
Our third meal here. Food is excellent, with great service. It is extremely loud, making conversation challenging. There are a few tables in a side room along the windows that are a bit quieter, and nicely romantic. Prices are up there, but food is beautifully prepared.
Had enjoyable dinner with friends. Only glitch was our wine order got delayed due to miscommunication between server and sommelier. Once our waiter was questioned he was very apologetic and our first bottle was on the house. Very generous since the wines at Margeaux are pricey. Our steak frites were done perfectly. The salads to start and deserts were also excellent. The entire dinner including an after dinner drink in the bar was wonderful.
We had a great experience. We celebrated my wife's bday on a Thursday night. The service was outstanding, food was delicious and we picked a great wine. The atmosphere/noise level was great. Yes we will come back. The escargot and foie grass were outstanding, steak fritters were awesome. Smoked duck leg was so-so. Overall, a great experience. We will return
I decided to try Margeaux Brasserie as my favorite French place, Bistro zinc recently closed. The ambiance is conducive for conversation and the staff was very attentive. We thought the food was good but not outstanding and definitely pricey. If I go back it will be for the happy hour when they offer specials.
Food is outstanding and the service is superb. I highly recommend Margeaux Brasserie for a wonderful evening out.
I am a self proclaimed foodie. I enjoy finding new restaurants and experiencing dishes from different chefs. After visiting Margeaux Brasserie, I was pleasantly surprised. When finding a restaurant that is placed within a hotel, you might wonder what the experience/food might be like. I felt like I was at a great new restaurant. The service was phenomenal and the food was to die for. We went for the macaroni gratin (we saw a picture on pinterest). However, we left we so many other favorites. Don't get me wrong, we will be back for the macaroni.
We have been to Margeaux Brasserie 5 times in the past 4 weeks--and we do not live downtown. The food is great, the servers wonderful and the ambiance is wonderful. We had Sunday brunch and there were two birthdays in our party of 4--we received beautiful hand-written cards from the staff and an incredible chocolate dessert. They are simply all about their guests and it shows. LOVE this restaurant.
Group dinner with former colleagues. The dinner, atmosphere, service made for a delightful evening
Chef/Cook Alex is terrific. Best steak ever. Plus, we were seated in the far reaches of the restaurant where is it QUIET. We could actually hear ourselves talk. Wonderful.
