Just great food -- in a pleasant quiet atmosphere It's like a "local" place.
Nice big round booths! A rare find in NYC. The staff was very accommodating and added an extra table on the end so we all (party of 8) fit comfortably. It wasn't too crowded so we could actually all hear one another - another rarity!
The food was fine, though nothing special. If the food were better I'm sure it'd be impossible to get a table.
Good for a pre-theater meal -- we were in and out pretty quickly, and the food and ambiance were great.
Tasty. Cool atmosphere.
Had a lovely meal with a group of friends. The bar is great; very lively, cozy and good cocktails and wine. The restaurant was good but could have had a more intimate feeling. I think that was largely a lighting issue.
The place wasn’t nearly as I nice as I’d thought it would be. The salad was just ok and the fries didn’t seem fresh and got cold quickly.
Service was excellent; friendly and efficient. Kitchen made a mistake on a special order but it was fixed literally in seconds. Food is very well prepared and presented very well. Rotisserie chicken is perfectly prepared and believe it or not the burgers are fantastic. Top notch manhattans as well. Been there a few times in the last few months and have been totally satisfied each time.
Horrible server, not al our food came and it wasn’t good when it did. We used to love this place ! :(
Amazing atmosphere, friendly staff! I've been scheduling all my city lunch meeting here.
nice place with good booths in the middle and back. more relaxed seating at the front, which gets packed out. Cool crowd and great overall venue. Friendly staff. would go back for sure
Very cool atmosphere. Tastier food than expected. A bit pricey for what you get, service indifferent to customers. Worth a visit for nice ambiance.
Great ambience at this neighborhood gem. Will definitely come back.
The food was adequate, ambience fine, although it was loud the night we went. Our waiter seemed overworked and a bit impatient. He made a mistake and expected us to pay for it -then seemed miffed when I didn't agree. Not very customer friendly...
Delightful gem, quiet hidden in midst of Village. lobby great for drinks, restaurant a wonderful find particularly for brunch
The ambiance in Margaux is lovely. The food is good. The service was quick and attentive. A very enjoyable lunch!
Perfect for Christmas Day! Not the usual mob scene but still cool vibe. Warm ,cozy atmosphere with great staff. The food was great-comfort food with imaginative twist.
We were seated next to a waiter station / exit area.
We asked to be moved due to this and the noise level of a neighboring group. When our food arrived it was lukewarm and the pastas’ in particular were mediocre. Unfortunately, the actual space is charming but we were dissatisfied with the food.
Excellent food and wine in a lovely, cosy, comfortable elegant room. Highly recommend.
Love the fireplace and vibe here. Great for our girl's get together.
Delicious food, outstanding service, lovely atmosphere, very reasonable prices, will definitely return many times - have already started recommending to family , friends and business associates.
Great boutique hotel restaurant with a very European feel. Not fussy but nice and very cozy. Went for Brunch and def recommend the Kouign-amann Puff pastry which is worth the trip just for that and coffee!
Will def be back but server was just ok not engaging or helpful but would not deter me from going back and just a great spot to meet in lobby for drinks near the cozy fireplace.
This is my second visit to cafe Margaux. I love the ambiance and it's great for get togethers, both cozy and for large groups. It feels like a little bit of Paris in Greenwich Village. The portions are perfect and great for sharing. Extensive wine list and cocktails. Plan a visit and expect to linger, it's a great place just to catch up and linger.
Asked for a quieter booth for a date, and they saved me the perfect spot!!! I really appreciated it! Food was overall delicious. Not a fan of the ice-cream sandwich with bacon- it had way too much bacon (can’t believe I’m saying that).
I took a friend to Margaux for his birthday. He loved the old style look of the place and had never eaten there. I made the reservation and were seated at a wonderful table. Unfortunately the menu listed on line is not the menu that they had. The two things we had pre-decided to order weren't offered. The waiter stated that the menu changes every day. This is fine but then the restaurant shouldn't post an invalid menu. My friend is a vegetarian and there was only one entrée offered. We started with the Farmers board and were very disappointed when it arrived. Each of the selections were mashed up like baby food. And it's served with rather bland crackers. My friend was disappointed and suggested that we go elsewhere for dinner. The Hotel is gorgeous. I would recommend just going there for coffee to enjoy the surroundings.
We arrived promptly at 6:00pm. And chose to have drinks in the lounge area before we were seated at our table.
Thanksgiving dinner was good. I had a wonderful squid ink lobster pasta. Great Granache Spanish red wine.
We had a lovely time. Third time we had dinner here.
Will always come back.
Service is NY brusque, which is not necessarily a bad thing if you are a New Yorker, but Margaux takes it bit too far. For example, when I approached the reception area, the person there was talking to a fellow employee about nothing special and finished up (ca. 45 seconds) before turning to me. The server of my pasta (cavatelli in a thick undistinguished tomato sauce: avoid) departed quickly, without asking whether I wanted parmesan and/or freshly ground pepper, both of which would have improved the dish. It took a second request to get a glass of (decent) wine. None of this is terrible in itself, but overall it palls. On the plus side, my martini was dry without my having to ask (and they had Martin Miller gin, not a common brand). My recommendation is go to nearby Knickerbocker instead.
The food was good and the wait staff were all friendly. The only weird thing was that they brought the main dishes out at the same time as the appetizers for some reason. We had a small table, so all of the dishes were crammed together, and it meant that the main dish food was cold by the time we got to it.
I booked a reservation during lunchtime and the place was perfect. The ambiance was romantic and lovely. The waitress made sure to accommodate what we needed for our party. Food was great, and I couldn't ask for better service.
Unpleasant staff at the front desk . We felt unwelcome . Snotty, indifferent attendant . Seemed to be disturbed by our arrival . Enough to spoil our dinner . We should have walked out upon our arrival .
Food was OK , no more .
My husband and I spent our wedding night at The Marlton and dined at Margaux. The entire experience was perfect for the occasion. We prefer quiet dining and the garden room delivered. I don't think the same can be expected of the indoor dining room - it was chatty but not overwhelming. Margaux is best described as intimate. The food and wine were delicious.
I used to enjoy this restaurant especially since it was in my neighborhood but lately it has been just so-so. The menu (which is not that extensive) has been the same for months. Why can't it be updated more often?
It was slightly overpriced and slightly under-fulfilled--i.e., the peppardelle with braised lamb had almost no detectable braised lamb, and the cheese board samples were excruciatingly small.
I like this restaurant. It has different dining areas with a variety of moods. It has comfortable booths or an indoor area that feels like a garden setting. The food was excellent, creative and a good value!
Terrible service - inattentive and wrong order
Ambiance was dead
Food was ok
We hadn't been to Margaux's in quite a few years, but we decided to go for our anniversary on Monday because it's close by and they had a special prix fixe menu all evening. It did not disappoint, from the crab-cake appetizer to my husband's salmon and my steak, and our creme brûlée and blueberry tart desserts, all were excellent. It was moderately crowded yet service was excellent.
Globally, we had a good time but the place was empty on a Sunday for brunch which kind of kills the ambiance. But better that than waiting 2 hours I guess.
The waiter was really nice and the French fries were good but the food was not outstanding. One friend for the scrambled eggs with wild salmon and the presentation was a joke: it was just eggs on one side, wild salmon thrown on the other side of the plate and a plain toast. no presentation effort whatsoever. I would not go back there.
The food was really good and I felt like it was healthy. The environment was also tasteful and nice. My friend and I were reconnecting after some time and the space and food were a great
It was dead on a Friday evening. The board dips were bland & the chip stale. We left after appetizers to enjoy a superb dinner at Nix!
