Dined for lunch. Food and service was fantastic! Liz was very attentive and friendly.
First time visiting, we enjoyed it! However , the view out the window was not desirable because of all the summer structures stacked up. Would have been nice to see the river since it is a riverfront restaurant.
From appetizer to dessert, everything was excellent!
The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. Highly recommend
Excellent food and service. VERY accommodating and knowledgeable about food allergies. Our server knew the menu inside and out regarding food allergies and even double checked things with the chef to keep my daughter safe. Food was delicious. Drinks were awesome. A little spendy, but well worth it. Will visit again!
Interesting menu choices . Staff was super. Appreciated the complementary parking.
The menu is very interesting and the food is delicious. They also have a very nice wine list. The only real issue is that is feels the same as it felt as when the hotel restaurant was The 616. It is not so much a French bistro as it is a really good hotel restaurant.
Ok good high price
Food was outstanding! Great spot for a lunch meeting.
Food was excellent! Liz was our server and was very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. Looking forward to returning soon!
Every part of our meal was delicious! We tried the Valentine’s meal for two. I had the salad with the goat cheese croutons, my husband had the scallops entree, and we split the beef wellington. The meat was cooked perfectly! You could cut it with a butter knife. We also ordered the escargots appetizer, and it was very good as well. The dessert was a baked Alaska that they flambeed tableside, which was fun. It was also delicious! The one weakness was timing of wine with dinner and a bit of a wait to order after being seated, but it seemed like many of us all came in at the same time, so the waiters did their best. Not the most intimate setting for a quiet date, but not terribly loud. We were seated at a long table that accommodated 3 parties of 2 instead of at a private table, so it was a little harder to have intimate conversation but not impossible. Overall, it was a very nice date.
It was fun and the food was delicious.
The service and ambiance was great but the food was okay…especially for the price.
Baked Alaska could have been better. It is difficult to pull off. Ice cream was totally frozen. That being said, we will be back.
We felt that our server was inattentive. My husband had flowers delivered to the restaurant with the understanding they would be in our table, they were not. He had to ask for them, he received no apology and our service went down hill from there.
A fantastic addition to the GR food scene. Beef Wellington was delicious, service was great, and the drinks were strong.
Inattentive server, apps came without plates, never came to see if we wanted another drink. Not worth the money, much prefer bistro or reserve to this.
We were seated at the bench seating which is an ergonomic disaster. If one sat a comfortable distance from the table there was no back support. Those of us seated there all had to request a pillow which was fetched from a remote location. We both had salmon Wellington. The puff pastry was raw inside and not at all flaky. It was brown on top but looked like it had been blow torched as the sides were not browned at all. The salmon was good however. The prices are high for so so quality, uncomfortable seating and average service. We won’t return.
Our server was great. He made fantastic recommendations and was very friendly. The food was delicious! Enjoyed our time there.
We had a great time, our server Joe was excellent and had great recommendations. All of the other staff was really attentive.
I would select Margaux as a special event restaurant (eg. birthday, anniversary, pre/post event). The menu was spectacular and a welcome diversion from other fare in Grand Rapids.
The food is highly over-priced as are the cocktails. The waiter was unfriendly---never smiled once!---and service was so slow. We had 7:30 reservations and by 8:45 were still waiting for entrees. We won't be going back any time soon, that's for sure.
Small portion sizes. Slow service. Please bring back 616.
It was okay and a good location for a show at devos. Our waiter made sure we were done and on our way on time. Food was fine but not a place I’d be craving to go again.
We tried Margaux (since we enjoyed 616 previously) last week before seeing Hamilton and the best part of our experience was the validated ticket for valet parking. Cocktails were decent, dinner and bar seating are both comfortable. Negative aspects included the high noise level in the restaurant, even before it filled up. Plus, The wine list is limited.....we tried two different red wines, both were expensive pricing and average to poor in taste. We don’t mind paying more for a nice glass of wine, but then it should be good! The food was delicious... however, some entrees were portioned generously and others very sparsely. I would recommend making them more similar in size and including some grain or vegetable with the portions (for the pricing). Probably will not be dining here regularly, but will come back for a drink with the river view in warmer weather.
A+ chef driver experience.. Maybe expensive to some, but I complain about all lousy food, but I never complain about price if the food excels. Fast or gourmet just make it great !!
Really good food and friends. Went with the charcuterie and shrimp for apps. Dinner was the half chicken and short ribs.
I had one of the best meals at Margaux! Brandon was our waiter. He was so personable and took the time to explain menu items. The food was incredible! The seafood was fresh. This was my first time there and I will definitely return. Thank you to the wonderful staff at Margaux!
The atmosphere was great, staff was very friendly and attentive. Drinks along with the food was delicious. They have the best chocolate moose for dessert that you could die for.
What an incredible dining experience! The only thing I wish that was different is that we had more time to relax and savor everything. We came before a BroadwayGR show, so we were a little pressed for time. The food, service, drinks and everything were top notch. I especially am grateful that the bartender made an N/A drink for my wife who is pregnant so she could enjoy something special. Excellent time!
Out on a double date with friends. Beautiful atmosphere; love the decor. The appetizers we chose were phenomenal and the entrees were good enough that we’ll try it again in the future. Unfortunately, the service was not great. The restaurant was not very busy, and while we were straightforward orderers, our dinning experience was just shy of three hours. Way too long. A lot of lag time after appetizer delivery and the four salads ordered were never delivered. Again, the good out weighed the bad, but we will not retry it on the way to an event.
Went prior to the Hamilton show. Our waiter took forever to stop by our table. When he did arrive we ordered our cocktails and entrees since weren’t sure how often he might show up again. Then we sat and waited, and waited. Some 25 minutes later our food arrived, before our cocktails! While the drinks (Manhattan and Margaux sazerac) were nice and all, really 25 min? I had the salmon Wellington which was actually quite lovely and my husband had the steak au poivre, which was ok. I just can’t get over how poor our waiter was. We actually were jealous of the neighboring table’s waitress who seemed much more engaging and even shared the night’s specials, there were specials??? We asked a manager to get our bill since our waiter was MIA. We left to get drinks elsewhere before the show, I wasn’t interested in hanging around.
I stayed at the JW for several nights and was thrilled to find this restaurant in the hotel. Whoever makes the omelettes in the morning is a genius! They are like you always believed omelets could be. I also loved the dinner menu, and they were very accommodating in terms of changing up items. Marilyn was especially delightful!
The food was excellent and fairly priced to the market. What we could have used was a wee bit better service from our waitress, it wasn't that busy but there were several times where we needed our waitress and she was nowhere to be seen - just made the evening not flow as well otherwise very nice experience.
Liz, our server, was fantastic! Everything at the brunch buffet was great
We celebrated a friends birthday at Margaux and we had a lovely time. The food was excellent and our server Brandon was one of the best servers I've had in a long time. We will definitely be back!
We was first time after the name change in the restaurant and we had a great experience with our server, the drinks and the food. A memorable evening and we will return for sure.
I have no idea why they decided to change what was a great thing to what they have now. Save your money, it’s over priced with mediocre food. 616 used to be a favorite of ours.
Great location for a business meeting. The restaurant was able to accommodate my customers in a quiet location and the service was excellent without being intrusive. The food was every bit as good as advertised and the pace at which it came out was just right. Highly recommended!
