Marea is about as good as upscale eating gets in Midtown, and there’s a lot of that around. Don’t miss the bone marrow and octopus fusilli.

Our favorite spot in Midtown for a perfect date night. Two Michelin star rating is perfectly deserved. Invisible service. Fresh seafood and handmade pasta dishes are the best in Manhattan. Dessert is ridiculously special and the breads equal dessert. Try the focaccia. So airy and salty - I had two pieces!

Normally don't leave negative reviews but had a couple extra minutes. Service was pretty unpleasant starting from the host to the waitress. More specifically they were a bit rude and pretentious. Had their noses so far up their behinds and talked down to us almost the whole way through. Food was good though.

Honestly I was expecting much more from this restaurant which is defined as one of the best Italian restaurant in the city. The food is ok but not exciting at all and any average Italian trattoria could do better and give you a more satisfying experience.
Ad Italian, I can’t recommend it.

Marea was fabulous and we really had a great time.
The trouble was that they did not know who we were and I think its the Open Tables fault. This kind of things should not happen, specially when one plans a special occasion. Very embarrassing to show up after the reservation had been made and confirmed by you guys. Luckily the place was not full so getting a seating was not an issue. From now on, we think we are going to make reservations directly.

This is without a doubt the finest Italian restaurant in New York. Outstanding pasta dishes and the freshest fish. The restaurant is amazingly private and quiet even with its robust crowd. The lunch is an amazing bargain. Cannot wait to return.

We had a wonderful time at Marea having dinner for two. We enjoyed the Prix Fixe, and based on the recommendations that we had read, we had: 1) POLIPO (Octopus) and ASTICE (Lobster and Burrata) 2) FUSILLI (Octopus and Bone Marrow pasta) and ANATRA (Duck Risotto) 3) SOGLIOLA (Dover Sole with sauces)and TAGLIATA (creekstone 50-day dry aged sirloin), and 4) BOMBOLONI (Donuts) and AFFOGATO (Espresso and Gelato). We absolutely loved each dish. A quick read through people's reviews, and you will see these are favorites among diners for sure. Extremely delicious, complex flavors, and a truly memorable and delicious meal.

Because we had such a variety of dishes, we each ordered wines by-the-glass instead of a bottle to compliment our food at the recommendation of our server, which was absolutely perfect (so much so, we asked for a list with each of the wines, as we enjoyed them so much!)

I did pay particular attention to the service, as I was slightly concerned based on reviews I had seen here. With that said, I was pleasantly surprised - from the moment we arrived to the second we left, service was fantastic. All around the restaurant, not just at our table, the service seemed to be on point all night.

Interestingly, we had a 5:45pm reservation, which is earlier than I would have usually chosen, but it actually worked out extremely well in that we were seated at an excellent table, and had a fantastic experience all evening.

A fabulous dinner!

Experience at the Bar-
1st cocktail very good
2nd cocktail, same as 1st, but made by a different bartender....terrible
Dining room experience...not good
The bottle of red wine we ordered was opened (and not presented to us) in a hidden area and brought to us opened already and the sommelier said he had already taken a drink from it to see if the wine was good! In all the years I have been dining and bartending, I have never seen a bottle of wine NOT presented to the guest.
Lastly, the bill cake and they conveniently charged us for two bottles of water instead of one and they charged us for our desserts when it clearly stated they were included with the pre fix meal we ordered. It was about $47 overcharged. They took it off the bill when we questioned it, but honestly, they seemed like it was normal and customary without an apology.
I will not return.

At this level both service and food needs to be executed much sharper. Highlights - bread,
Crudo, the pastas, salt baked branzino. Low lights - oyster at 4$/pc, must be best available, wasn’t. Tagliata, ok meat quality but dish lacked flavor. Wine list has many reasonable price/quality options, will just require time to study.

Hands down best service I’ve ever experienced in my life. As a chef I appreciate attention to detail and I’ve never been this blown away by the attention and discipline of the service staff. The food is playful and simple, although I longed for the chef to let loose a bit and deliver big bold flavors. The difficulty of celebrating extraordinary ingredients is finding the balance of when to push and when to show restraint. More often than not I was blown away by the depth and layers of favors that were developed, and they were done in a way that was discreet, organic and respectful .
Ps. The cocktails were epically mindblowing!

From the moment we entered the vibe was: highly professional and business-like, totally competent, almost completely un-friendly, and sometimes downright puzzlingly cold and unwelcoming.
There was a single nice gentleman in a vest who seemed to be the point person with instructions to interact with guests and be personable, while every other person there had a flat affect, quickly dropped off food with a virtually in-audible and perfunctory explanation of the dishes being presented. We were left wondering if they thought we didn't belong, or had somehow managed to offend literally every person we came in contact with.
The food was spectacular, but we were so eager to get out of there by the end we regretted ordering dessert.

We like Michael White restaurants, this one especially. But Marea is very expensive, and we therefore expect a lot, even for the set price weekend lunch (about $60). That two course weekend lunch now offers only pasta dishes for the second course. Both the one I had and the one my wife had were very good, but not great. The appetizers were outstanding - octopus for my wife, soup with crisp oysters for me. Maybe it's best to order 2 appetizers. Unsure that's allowed. We did not ask.
The wine list is extensive, but seriously overpriced - only a few bottles in the $60-90 range, and several of the ones I saw on the list I have bought retail for less than $20.

It was a four course dinner.:
Firt course- lobster- We do not realize that there were an extra cost to this one (worth- it was excelent!)
Second course - Gnocchi - not fancy, spicy bad pasta!!!No images on this!
Third course - scalops wonderful!
Fourth course - pear in wine, and a beautiful ice cream shaped as a pear, but I did not liked the salty flavour...

Have eaten here multiple times. Signature dishes are still at the top of their game. However service seems to be slipping which is why I removed a star. When lunch for four with a low end bottle of wine is over $500,
you expect the service to be impeccable and historically this has been the case. However on my last visit, it seems to have deteriorated.
