What Insiders Are Saying

The Infatuation

Marea is about as good as upscale eating gets in Midtown, and there’s a lot of that around. Don’t miss the bone marrow and octopus fusilli.

These restaurants tend to define a city, and make up the places that you absolutely cannot miss if you want to have any credibility as a restaurant-informed person in a major metropolis.

The once amazing focaccia is stale, the water server spilt water around the table & didn’t want to be there, the maitre ‘d & hostess had left by 11pm so there was a backlog of people waiting for coat check as a private party all left at once -
However the ricci , acciughe, seppia , canestrelli, fusilli & spaccatelli were all outstanding along with an excellent red wine suggestion from the sommelier. The service was not as good as it used to be but Marea is still a delicious & elegant dining experience that nyc is fortunate to have.

My wife and I recently visited for a memorable anniversary dinner. Great classic cocktails and some new takes. We both choose the 4 course pre fixe menu and were incredibly well fed. The spacciatelli pasta was the best composed dish I have had in a very long time! Service was helpful and courteous, never pushy and allowed us to linger and relax, revelling in our wondrous meal. Would definitely return and send friends!!

All foods were superb.
Pastas were cooked perfectly, and very enjoyful.
Squid Ink Ravioli with lobster fill was amazing, and Octopus Fusilli was really good. Those might be the best pasta we had. Must try for both pastas.
Spaghetti with garlic and seafood was good as well.
From Secondi, we had tried Halibut, Sea Bass & Seared Sea Scallops.
Halibut and Seared Sea Scallops are probably best seafood we ever had.
Must try for both foods. Sea Bass was good, but Halibut and Sea Scallop were much better.
If craving for sweats & bit of creamy feel, Pistachio Cremeux was very good.
We were there for Birthday, which I have noted when making reservations. They gave us birthday desserts, which was really nice gestures.
Definitely recommend this place for special occasion or superb dining experience.

This is my 2nd birthday celebration at Marea's and it has impressed me yet again! Attentive staff, delicious courses and an extensive wine list. The amuse bouche and post dessert sweet treat was more than worth it! I recommend the 4 course prix fixe, you won't be disappointed!!

My first dining experience at Marea was exceptional! My mother in law and I had an exquisite brunch on Saturday before seeing a matinee show on Broadway. I highly recommend this restaurant for a very special dining experience. From the host and hostess that greeted us to our personal waiter (Paul) and the staff that assisted him throughout our experience, each employee displayed impeccable timing, great attention to detail and careful consideration of special requests. We chose to have the five-course tasting menu with wine pairings and it was a beautiful sampling of Marea's signature dishes. The Crudi was fresh, the Antipasti included the Astice and Polipo, our Secondi was the most delicious pasta, and our Pesce was the Capesante. For dessert, Paul brought us the best Panna Cotta we have ever had and a sampling of two tasty Tiramisu. I cannot wait to return to Marea for another exceptional dining experience!

When going to a restaurant with such rave reviews the bar was set high and Marea did not disappoint. The service was attentive and understanding. We were catching up with old friends and wanted to enjoy our cocktails and we did not feel rushed in any way. In fact the food was served with time to savor each course. The four course tasting menu allowed for us to try a number of dishes all of which were prepared beautifully. The only negative was the wine list. It was large and pricey, but as wine lovers who travel and enjoy wonderful wines we found it rather annoying that we could not enjoy a wine that was truly remarkable for a reasonable price. Let me be clear "reasonable" would have been 150-200 for a nice Italian wine, but it seems for some reason it was over 300. When spending that much for wine it should truly be remarkable and enjoyable.

Excellent food and service. Would have given 5 stars except that I found the Crudo to be lacking in fish quality I would have expected for raw fish. Risotto di Mare was superb as well as the scallops. Waiter was excellent as well. Expensive but as good as other NYC high end restaurants for a little less. Highly recommend for a special occasion.

Extraordinary food, interesting wines, attentive and knowledgeable staff, and excellent service. The price fix lunch menu is good value for the total dining experience. We live near the NJ location and visit several times a year. Their food, especially pastas, can’t be beat. However, Marea is in a class of its own. Thank you.

We had an absolutely lovely experience. It was a celebration lunch prior to seeing Alvin Ailey. The food and service was incredible. The only downside was I told them we were celebrating and anniversary and I expected some mention of it or writing in the dessert plate. That said dessert was to die for!

The food was good and the portions were huge, by the time we reached the 3rd course we were extremely full and struggled to finish the rest. What really bothered us was that we were given a table right at the back of the restaurant and to top that they had a counter right on our table where the waiters would come to feed the orders into the computer. Nobody wants to spend a few hundred dollars to dine at an establishment like this and have the waiters constantly stand next to you jabbing at the computer. We had zero privacy and were very uncomfortable.

They tried to sit the two of us in this nearly empty restaurant at a table for five at the entrance next to the service station. As Rachel Maddow would ask: “Why is this?” I asked to be seated elsewhere and was quickly offered a nice table for two at a comfortable banquet. Why not do this at the outset? As a native New Yorker I am offended by the assumption of some restaurants that these are out-of-towners and thus not to be treated with respect. Regardless, the food was good and the fish dishes excellent. Wine list outstanding and service prompt and courteous. A good location for pre-theater dining.

Steak was not cooked, not even as par from outback steak house’s or any regular diners. I had high expectation on octopus - plating technique was lacking...and octopus taste better in other 2-star place in manhattan. I could not believe this was two michelin star restaurant. Did not have Christmas menu on Christmas eve dinner. Service was the worst...servers keep carrying chairs over their heads (dont know why) at the dining hall. Do you not have service hall..? This was definitely not michelin starred dining experience at ALL. Will never come back again and so will my friends or families.
