What Insiders Are Saying
Marea is about as good as upscale eating gets in Midtown, and there’s a lot of that around. Don’t miss the bone marrow and octopus fusilli.
Pre-Valentine’s Day dinner
As usual, the food was outstanding, the service was stellar and the vibe was nice.
Excellent in every way. The bread, the scampi crudo, fusilli pasta with octopus and the salad were all perfect. Bravo Marea...
Excellent seafood and service. Price is high, but probably normal for NYC. I would recommend it to a friend, so long as they understood it was expensive.
The food, service and the ambiance was spectacular. The wine list was amazing.
Marea, after 5 times became 1 of my favorites in NYC.
Food is more than spectacular, service is the best, all people in restaurant is kind and lovely.
An I love the yellow illuminated wall.
Best experience you can have of a gourmet NYC vibrant restaurant
Everything from food to atmosphere to service are perfect. Well worth every dollar spent.
An elegant environment and outstanding food, with very efficient service. Just don't sit between the two serving stations on the west banquette: the noise and constant activity is very irritating. And be prepared for a very rushed service if you order the multi-course menu; with the next course being delivered simultaneous to the prior course being cleared. It felt like we were being forced to eat fast and get out for the next round of diners.
Oustanding food and service, every time there is better
We really enjoyed the meal itself, but the dining experience itself was not enjoyable.
Our main waiter did an incredibly poor job. He mixed wine from another table, didn't really help answer questions, and was not attentive.
Normally, if one of those mistakes had happened, I would have brushed it off completely. However, he provided consistently poor service throughout the entire meal. It is definitely worth noting that all the other staff members were warm, welcoming, and attentive, so if you go I hope you encounter them and don't get our waiter!
The food, as I said, was great. We had oysters, several of the small plates, and a good array of the entrees and everything was excellent. It was a bit loud in the restaurant and we happened to be in the draft of the front door, so we were quite cold through the meal. If you're looking for a more intimate, quiet setting for a date night, etc this might not be the right choice.
Bottom line: the food was incredible, but the service we received from the waiter was very poor and it marred the dining experience.
As always the service was excellent. Food was ok, scallops were very good. Wine still pricey but it's NYC and two stars so to be expected. We shall of course return!
Amazing food and service!
Mares is one of my Most Favorite NY Restaurants. Everything is just wonderful and the staff does an amazing job, paying attention to detail!
I strongly recommend Marea to anyone who enjoys great food and a wonderful experienxe’
My fav when in town for work or play. Octopus Fusilli is to die for!
Great experience as usual, either Ai Fiori or Marea can not disappoint you, a great expression of fine dining. Flawless!
If anyone asked me how my experience was at Marea, I would say “okay”. The food was “okay”. The servers were friendly but the food took a while to come out. The price for the quality of the food was too high. Nothing went terribly wrong but I wasn’t wowed by anything either.
Most amazing seafood in NY, the 2 michelin stars are noticeable in every plate, the consistent quality of the food but the low key ambience and the menu everyone can order what they wish from with out having to have a many course menu make this one of my fave restaurants.
It’s always amazing.
Almost impossible to find a flaw in the meal. Have the Marrow and Squid Fusilli!
My reply is yes, for the many good meals we have had there. The last one was awful. I chose the most expensive dish in the menu: the lobster. It was overcooked, it was impossible to tell it was lobster, and it was bathed in a thick, not memorable sauce. I should have returned it, but I am not accustomed to doing this, especially in a great restaurant as Marea. I do hope you improve on this sorry experience. I will probably give you another try, but with some trepidation.
lobster, scallop and pasta are really nice.
SUPER EVERY TIME 👅👍🏾
Very poor service for such a popular restaurant
Food was good but not to the quality needed for a two star restaurant .
Took my wife and twelve year old daughter. We had a great dining experience. I’ve worked in Food and Beverage my entire career with the exception of cleaning out chicken coops. Chef and the team offered seemless serviceamd the food was excellent. The Swiss chard ravioli with pesto... are you serious? Ridiculously good. Somehow you kept the cheese separate from the braised short rib in the ravioli. Gotta go back to school to learn that trick. The servers and server assistants were outstanding. Thank you for a memorable night.
One of the best restaurants in the city. Make sure you have at least 2 hours to order the 4 course menu. Each choice is excellent with knowledgeable and attentive service. The pasta course is amazing so be sure to leave room for the main course. Loved the bag of doughnuts for dessert.
Best food in NYC!!!!! Third time there and will return. No bad as to price for Uptown NYC. Service is A++++++ and the staff are professional and on the service without hesitation. Just well done. DB
It was ok, but the service
This was my second time for lunch here... the first time was so good that I went back with my fiancé. However, I guess my expectation for a Michelin rated restaurant was too high..? Or just restaurants in general on their standards of food hygiene? We found a GIGANTIC spiral metal piece of a pan scrubbing brush in my fiancé’s fusilli. You have no idea how shocked I was. I lost all my appetite the moment I saw him pulling that thing out of his mouth with pasta sauce all over it. Once I witnessed that disgusting scene, I barely touched my pasta (I got a spaccatelli which wasn’t bad). The piece was HUGE. I have no idea how that big piece of metal was stuck on the pan throughout the cooking process but the chef did not know? The staff was very apologetic about it, and took off the price of one meal from our bill. They offered us free dessert and when we politely refused, they still went ahead and brought out bite size desserts and chocolates with “happy birthday”. I will not forget my birthday lunch at Marea for a very long time, and unfortunately won’t go back for any occasion in the future.
Great service and food. Just a top experience
Muy buena experiencia.
They should ask you if you want bottled water for ten bucks and a refill
Food as ever was outstanding and the service excellent . One mis-service of an unordered side salad.
Mom and kids night out in the city. We dined at Marea before our broadway show. The food was amazing, our waiter was very accommodating. The menu was a bit intimidating for my kiddos especially the 10 year old. Our waiter was phenomenal and helped us navigate. I would recommend it for families with older children or those with highly sophisticated pallets. Or a lovely place for date night.
Wow, I really was impressed by the level of service!! Furthermore the food was delicious. The best lobster I’ve ever had. It just melted in your mouth. We chose the 4 course menu and all the food exploded my taste buds.
I look forward to our next dinning experience there!!
Visited Marea on a Saturday nite and had a 5pm reservation. We got there @ 4:50pm and checked in w/hostess and then forced to stand like cattle in the foyer of the restaurant as others showed up for their 5pm reservation. There must have been over 20 people mashing up against each other. Apparently no one gets seated until after 5pm....we were never told of this either on their website or upon checking in. We finally got seated and all of us ordered the 4 course price fix menu. The food was ok with the pasta dishes just good. The service was adequate with one of the servers trying to describe the dishes but failing miserably since none of us understood a word she was saying. Really? Ok we were running a little late for a show @ Carnegie Hall so my colleague took care of the bill and we rushed off to the show. I asked him at the show what the total bill was & he told me some exorbitant price and showed me the bill. Wtf? What had happened was an error on the staffs part by charging us individually, in addition to our price fix rate for the scallops entree. That came to $400 extra. Needless to say I was upset for the rest of the show and went right back to the restaurant afterwards. The maitre d checked our bill and insincerely apologized for the over billing. He adjusted the bill and also took off the one beer and glass of wine consumed @ the table. I was happy he corrected the bill and offered 2 free drinks as recompense, but isn’t this a Michelin rated restaurant? $400 is a BIG mistake...and noticeably not in our favor. One and done w/this over blown and pretentious place. Find another place more deserving of your hard earned money instead of one that doesn’t seat their clients like they’re happy to see you, waiting only to overcharge you...maybe hoping that you might be tourists they will never see again.
Everything was amazing! We chose the 4 course (choose your own) special and it was amazing. More food than I expected and everything tasted amazing. Service was impeccable. I will definitely be back!
Birthday of a good friend
Best staff and so warm and welcoming and the food is just beyond! The wine list is a stunner too and the wine staff is accessible and open to guiding you to best wine for your taste and price point. Cannot wait to go back!
