What Insiders Are Saying

The Infatuation
8.8

Marea is about as good as upscale eating gets in Midtown, and there’s a lot of that around. Don’t miss the bone marrow and octopus fusilli.

These restaurants tend to define a city, and make up the places that you absolutely cannot miss if you want to have any credibility as a restaurant-informed person in a major metropolis.

I had a very high expectation for this restaurant due to all the reviews. I think you need to be careful what you select from the menu. There are some very good dish and some that are so-so. Always go for the seafood. It’s an Italian restaurant, but really, their speciality is seafood.

We ordered some dishes recommended by the server and some meat dishes we wanted to try. Soft crab was superb, while octopus ragu fissile, which was supposed to be the signature dish, was just OK. Meat was not so good. Desert was nothing special.

The service was excellent, and the ambiance was also very nice, but if you are paying that much money, you could find food far better than theirs unless you know exactly what you want from the menu.

Pasta was too spicy.
Lobster with burrata excellent.

Dessert delicious.

Very nice meal but rather very classic and not original. does it worth the price?

We really enjoyed our evening . Group of 4. My only criticism which is small is that our entree plates were taken away 5 minutes after we were finished. I felt the service somewhat rushed at that stage of the meal. Apart from that, it was first class all the way.

Arguably the best dining experience of my life. Thank you Marea team for the extraordinary food and hospitality and Sam for being one of the city’s best bartenders.

Incredible food ... staff was so attentive. My scallops and steak were cooked perfectly. The foie gras torchon was the highlight of the appetizers. Both pastas were mind blowing. Can’t wait to go back !

A little overrated. This is our second time and we were underwhelmed. There are better restaurants in the city with a lower comparable rating than this one.

We were not too impressed by the wine pairing to the Chef Menu, as wines were all pretty young but for the Sauternes at dessert.
The pastas were not exceptional, but we may have not made the best choice (next time I'd like to try the gnocchetti).
The languistine appetizer is divine.
The raw fish selection is delicious.
The desserts are exceptionally good.

The food and service is reliably excellent. This was the first time my partner came to Marea, and we both loved the octopus and scallops.

food is good BUT OVERPRICED. We went there for lunch by recommendation from a plastic surgeon friend that warn me about the price, make it less likely to go on a weekly basis. The lobster first course was excellent and i recommend it. The pasta was also very good. The desert menu, i didn't find any exciting choice so i did not order. In summery it is a good place to go for special occasion.

The ambiance, food and service were all superb. My wife and I ordered the octopus appetizer and it was moist, well textured and served with a wonderful light sauce. The swordfish main course which we split was fantastic. definitely order this! The waiter and waitstaff were attentive and nonintrusive. There was little noise in the restaurant. We went to 2 other restaurants for dinner on this trip (Gato and Babbo) and Marea was clearly the best food. We will return.

Well-heeled crowd for a well-heeled location. Food lived up to the hype. I would recommend ordering one from different categories instead of selecting their 4-course tasting option. A table-shared whole fish for the entree plus a pasta is the way to go. Plus select a few appetizers for the table - one of which MUST include the lobster burrata (a top-5 all time app).

Wine pairing was more about what the restaurant wanted to serve versus what we liked - we didn’t even drink the desert wine pairing as it was disgusting. The crudo was amazing but the branzino course was underwhelming. The service was subpar for a higher end restaurant- took forever to order and no attempt to ask how our meal is/was. It was also a celebration which I noted on the reservation but the restaurant made no note of it or asked us about it.

Phenomenal. We started the day in ventral park and made our way here. A true gem.
The place pulls you back to Italy, with perfection in every dish and new flavors and tradional bliss swirling around, an experience that can only be said as “perfection”.

Try the pasta, come hungry.

Had a theater reservation, informed the waiter with plenty of time to spare. Food was not delivered to our table until 5 minutes before we had to leave. At that point we sent the food back and went to the theater hungry.

Marea was an outstanding culinary experience in every way. Each dish we had was perfect, and when my halibut came out and was overcooked, they immediately whisked it to the back and presented me with a new dish that was cooked to perfection. The service was superb and the staff attentive, helpful, and friendly. I would say only the ambiance leaves room for improvement, where we found it to be very corporate and stale, even though the lighting and feel of the room were nice. I will definitely return here again for a meal.
