What Insiders Are Saying
Marea is about as good as upscale eating gets in Midtown, and there’s a lot of that around. Don’t miss the bone marrow and octopus fusilli.
Food was not cooked properly and tasted sub par to any average restaurant. OverprIced. Not worth your time or money. No view of plaza!
The first time I went to Marea which was in the winter it was exceptional, but this time I wasn’t as impressed with the food and didn’t feel so great after eating it! It’s unfortunate, but I feel this place is slipping.
It’s our 7th year or so if dining at Marea when we visit from out of town. It never disappoints. Food is outstanding and service is first rate. It is our favorite NY restaurant.
Great food! Great ambiance, would recommend to anyone visiting or celebrating a special occasion!
excellent food, excellent service, prices a bargain for the level of food/service offered.
Absolutely amazing food from start to finish, and a wonderful server to add to the experience. The pastas are delicate and delicious
Too slow service
The best High end Italian in town
The food was OK. Pasta portion was too large. The bomboloni dessert was fantastic. The service was OK. The ambience was OK. Michelin two stars.... really? I don't get it.
I had a better meal, with nicer ambience at the Carlyle Hotel restaurant.
Fathers Day perfection., from the succulent grilled octopus to the on the dot rare beef medallion. #chefbianco is on top of his game.
Outstanding food! Pastas are divine.
My family and I came to Marea for a pre-theatre meal and the experience was outstanding. I want to particularly thank our server (whose name I do not remember) for his hilarious personality and outstanding service. The food was absolutely delicious. The quality of the seafood and pasta here is without a doubt one of the highest in all of NYC. I look forward to coming back.
Always delighted to visit Marea and do whenever i’m In NYC. Food is always delicious & staff is excellent (attentive but not intrusive). My server was William and he gave me some excellent recommendations for wines to pair with my lunch. Hope to be back soon.
Marea was such an unexpected fantastic experience. The food was so delicious and the service was just perfect. Attentive but not hovering. Erin was our server. She made the whole luncheon lovely. High high recommendation!! I live in NYC and most of the time I am disappointed and feel ripped off after an expensive meal. Marea is my new go to place.
We were greeted by name and promptly shown to the table. Our server and the wait staff were professional, friendly, and knowledgeable.
When some oil spilled on the table, we were embarrassed but made to feel comfortable about it. The situation was handled very smoothly.
The food was delicious. It was well prepared and the portions were adequate. A bread tray was passed around continuously and water glasses were always refilled. The staff continued to check in, making sure we had what we needed and were happy. The prix-fixed lunch is very reasonable for the quality of the food you receive. We would definitely come back.
Food was very good but a little plain. The big problem was that the restaurant messed up my order three times (in four courses) - not the level of service you are expecting at a 2 Michelin Star restaurant.
We went to Marea to celebrate our anniversary, and the restaurant made the occasion special. Briefly: the service was attentive but not obsequious; also quite knowledgeable about the food. The raw fish crudo selection was extremely fresh and beautifully arranged on the plates. The pasta and seafood entrees were creative, with a great deal of thought put into their presentation. The riccotta doughnuts were a lovely ending.
I found the food to be delicious but under seasoned - - everything needed salt Service was very good but not exceptional.
This was a perfect dinner date for our anniversary! The foot was delicious- particularly the pastas- and portions were well sized. Both my husband and I were full when we left. Service was fantastic, everything was well timed, and there was a perfect balance of attention by the staff throughout! We're already talking about
Everything was perfect from beginning to end. A special birthday treat came at the end of our meal. What was truly impressive was that as we were leaving the restaurant, a young woman at the reception area said Happy Birthday to my husband. My husband was stunned and delighted by this last gesture. By the way, we have dined at Marea for non special, occasions, and have always had an excellent dining experience. Pricey? Absolutely. But Marea is still a standout in New York.
Comimos cuatro amigos. Pedimos platos “simples”: ostras, pescado a la sal, ravioles. Todo exquisito. Para destacar el sommelier. El lugar es muy lindo con buen ambiente y el nivel de ruido es aceptable
Caro, por supuesto, pero lo vale.
Good as it has always been
Great food, great service and an outstanding wine lst
Presentation and service was first rate. Expensive but so worth it! Our last night in NYC was made so much more memorable by dining at Marea. Can't wait to make our way back at some stage.
Excellent food and service and our waitress was exceptional, talking to the chef about our meal and feedback from the chef, brilliant and will be back when my partner is back in NYC
Am amazing evening.
Great wine land fantastic food selection!
What an amazing experience! The food and service were outstanding! They even gave an extra dessert since I was there for my birthday! Needless to say, they made my birthday very memorable!
Best pasta in the usa , bravo chef
Marea was just perfect in every way. It was what fine dining should be - lovely, delicious, and with no fuss. I specifically asked our concierge for a really nice restaurant without a snooty, pretentious wait staff. He nailed it on the head with Marea. Our server was very professional but also real. She answered all of our questions and seemed happy to do so. Then she made recommendations that were all home runs. We loved every morsel that we ate, and we enjoyed every moment. The restaurant is just beautiful and oh my, what a perfect location at the south end of Central Park. If you have to eat early to get a reservation, do so! You can always go have coffee and dessert later.
There isn’t a dule moment at Marea. We love their service Darnele is amazing and Food is excellent.
Amazing overall experience
Honestly, me and my husband were very disappointed with our experience. This was my first Michelin ever and I was so excited about this but it actually disappointed us so much that I want to write this down.
Me and my husband went with fixed menu.
We had assorted oysters, cuttlefish, fusilli, mushroom risotto, wild bass and sirloin steak.
The oyster and risotto are fine. But start with cuttlefish, it was very salty but I didn't say anything. Until my fusilli was served, it was extremely salty that I couldn't finished, especially the pasta sauce, it was TOO salty for me! I thought it was me so I ask my husband to try, he thought it was way too salty too! I had to eat my pasta without having sauce on it, and I'm very disappointed!
Our main course which is my wild bass and his sirloin steak. Honestly, before we get to the main course, it was already too salty for us to taste anything more. I hoped it can be tasty as a Michelin main course, but, it was extremely ordinary taste for my bass and his sirloin.
I literally don't see how they can be rated as 2-stars Michelin restaurant since I really think their bass and sirloin is no better than the steakhouse that I usually go.
I expected them to be very tasty to deserve Michelin rate, but I really don't see how did they get this title.
I can say that they are overrated and over priced. I definitely willing to pay for high rate Michelin restaurants to enjoy my food, but I don't know how they can be rated like Michelin.
They don't have any dishes that impressed me or unforgettable or better than most of the same level restaurant, they just a normal dinner place but way highly rated and pricy, since I really don't think their food deserves that much of money.
Their service was fine, but , very very very disappointed with their food. Nothing special, nothing memorable. Just the extremely salty dishes memory.
I really sincerely hope they can improve more, or at least, don't make this kinda basic mistake such as too salty.
Outstanding restaurant and lived up to all positive reviews we read , and beyond !Been coming to the city for 25 plus years and this One of the best we ve been to ! The fusilli octopus with bone marrow is to die for ! Repeat customers for life !
Amazing delicious beautiful creative
Gracious and kind staff that is very attentive but not obtrusive
My fiance and I had lunch on a Saturday as I know how difficult it can be to get a dinner reservation so I jumped all over the chance to try out their well renowned dishes and we were not disappointed. We ordered off their pre-fix lunch menu which gave you an appetizer and entree. It's NYC so of course it's not cheap but for $60 a person it's truly amazing food. Just the preparation of it is something that you will marvel at when it's put in front of you. The portions are the perfect size to leave you satisfied without feeling like you need to be rolled out of there. We got the crab salad and lobster bruschetta to start which were both delicious. The freshness of the seafood was apparent and each dish had complimentary ingredients to bring together each dish quite nicely. For our entree's we got the shrimp gnocchi and the scallops and once again the seafood was scrumptiously fresh. Ended the meal with the bamboloni, which is fun to say and are mini donuts so how can you say no, and the affogato which if you are a fan of espresso you have to try as a dessert. All in all it was an amazing lunch and if we find ourselves back in the city, originally from Boston don't hold that against this review New Yorkers, we will certainly be back here.
Very disappointing meal. Service was slow all night but the waitress we started the meal with was helpful. The waitstaff changed halfway through the meal without us being informed. Our second waiter was barely around and never introduced himself. Perhaps we wouldn’t have needed to stay through the shift change if service had been prompt. While both of our pasta dishes were good, our appetizers were disappointing and main courses were horrible and badly executed. We didn’t even have the energy to send it back by the main course because we just wanted to get out of there since the whole evening took so long. We’ve been to Marea before and it was amazing. Sad to see it go downhill so much.
Amazing food and great service! The grilled octopus and bone marrow was delicious as well as the Lamb dish. The service provided by Aneta was impeccable! We will return soon.
Marea is nothing short of spectacular. I went for lunch, which comes as a 2-course meal. The zuppa (artichoke soup) was luscious yet light. A perfect start. I had the striped bass on arrabiata cous cous with fresh peas and crawfish. This moist, flavorful fish was supported by a bed of creamy, slightly spicy cous cous — heavenly. I tasted my guest’s halibut entire. Fresh, moist, and extraordinarily flavorful. The affogato was perfect, the lemon cake sublime, and the bombolini were delightful. Our server brought tira misu “bites” to the table — bite-sized domes of lady finger and a thin layer of mascarpone. Wow! Everything was artistically presented without feeling pretentious. The service was warm and attentive without being intrusive. I just loved it all!
