What Insiders Are Saying
Marea is about as good as upscale eating gets in Midtown, and there’s a lot of that around. Don’t miss the bone marrow and octopus fusilli.
Superb in every aspect.
Honored our table request, very appreciative. Thank you.
I have been to Marea several times over the years. My memory of the seafood risotto as having been superb. Unfortunately this time it was not.
What to say about a 2 star Michelin, everything was perfect !!!
The Fusilli dish is amazing! Everything was amazing but that dish really is something!
Service was impeccable. Nice place and some nice food, but underwhelming for such a highly rated restaurant. Never send dishes back, but had to here due to improper cook. Other food was good, but not mind blowing.
Celebrated my gfs bday here. Service was impeccable! Table bread was excellent. We all really enjoyed our entrees as well. They were also very accommodating to my 2 1/2 ur old god daughter.
We had an exceptional meal at marea to celebrate my son's birthday. The crudo was delicious areas the pasta and risotto with truffles. We really enjoyed our branzino cooked in a salt crust. We had a variety of yummy desserts
The service was a bit inatentive!
Everyone is beautiful at Marea! Definitely worth the splurge. Food was scrumptious and service was impeccable. Halibut was juicy, with perfect sear on top. Crab pasta was silky and delicious. Donuts could have floated away. I had noted in reservation that we were celebrating a birthday, and they even brought a free desert with a candle. Marea seems to deserve its reputation as a top NYC restaurant, even after many years in business.
The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. We can’t wait to go back again!
Not ** Michelin worthy
We have been to Marea many times. The food is excellent. It is not Bernardin, not Daniel, not the Modern, but very good. Our reason for taking it off our list is the service.
Their Clouseau-like team was obviously never trained. We arrived a few minutes late for a 2:30 late lunch and our table had not been set. We stood and waited for more than five minutes while someone set an empty table. Then we ordered, me their pasta vongole, my wife their Dover sole ($42 supplement on the $60 prix fixe lunch). Hers came out on time, but nothing came for me. The waiter admitted when pressed that he had "screwed up", but no two-star Michelin restaurant should serve one party and not the other. But her food was there and I insisted that she start, which after a few minutes she did, and this was good because it was ten minutes more before my meal arrived.
To cap it off, we ordered expressos that took another ten minutes and then could not raise a soul for the check. The room is noisy and the bustle of servers is frenetic but un-choreographed. I expect much more from a $300 lunch for two and will probably not return.
Wonderful way to spend the afternoon.
We had a wonderful birthday luncheon. Everything was exceptional.
Lovely! Fabulous wait staff , especially Oleana!! 5 Stars
The food was outstanding. I would go back again and again.
Marea is my favorite restaurant in NYC. The food and service are outstanding. The crudo is so good that I no longer order it anywhere else because it can't compare with Marea. Every pasta I have ever ordered there has been unique and delicious, and there is a nice variety. The chef comes up with combinations that don't seem like they would go together (e.g., lobster and burrata cheese),but end up tasting great. I describe the ambience as "casual elegance": It is a beautiful space but not stuffy, and it is easy to have a quiet conversation. Service is attentive but not overbearing. The wine list is top notch, and the sommeliers there do a great job recommending wines that go perfectly with the food at various price points. The only thing they can improve in my opinion are the desserts, which are good but not memorable.
Marea was truly a special experience. We were four friends from Toronto coming to New York, a city we love for the wonderful Christmas experience and food lovers city. The service was impeccable, the ambiance was perfect and the food exceptional!!! It is a must!!!!!! We were even lucky to see some stars...Toni Colette and Julia Roberts. Marea is a gem and we will surely be back when we return in the spring.
Great food and great service! Nice location.
We had the tasting menu and loved everything except that there were two sizeable pasta courses that almost did us in. We would have been fine with one of them but two was entirely too much and it made it difficult to eat the main course afterward.
Loved Marea! This is my second time going for a birthday and they went above and beyond again. Always recommend Marea for a special occasion.
Our experience here was absolutely magical! The service was great, the food was exquisite.
Love the complex flavor combinations and beautiful presentation.
Food was delicious and creative but service was slightly lacking.
Great food and our Server was great!
This place was outstanding! Even ran into Bono!
Excellent! One of my go to restaurants. Sean is a great manager.
The Tonno was too chunky and the sauce underneath was not very complimentary.
The halibut was cooked well but it would have been better if a broth accompanied it. It was quite dry on its own.
This place is special and memorable every time. This was our 2nd visit and we will be returning!
Service, food and personal attention were fantastic - my wife and l love this place
Very outstanding food I prefer the five courses for lunch.
Total disaster! Service poor, food poor, attention to detail very very poor !
Grossly overpriced! I've eaten in much better non Michelin Italian restaurants, never mind this being a 2* Michelin...should not be 1* let alone 2*....totally disappointed!
Our visit to New York and the birthday treat DESTROYED!
Marea is first and foremost extremely accommodating with the fact that I had to change the amount of people in my reservation from three to four for lunch. Love! Thanks for a wonderful lunch. The food and ambience was exactly was I was looking for.
Marea is an elegant restaurant with a wonderful view of Central Park. The food is delicious. I enjoyed the scallops. And the doughnuts are by far the best in the city!
Great food, friendly service. Amazing experience !
This is the restaurant not to be loosed when you stay at NEW YORK.
Always coming from ARGENTINA to NEW YORK is one of the facts to do.
One of the bests restaurants in NEW YORK
After about 15’ waiting for our table (we were beginning to get worried), the rest of the experience was amazing. I put on the reservation that we were having 10yr anniversary (just Visiting NYC), so they took care of the details: free sparkling, special desserts and great experience. We had a Thanksgiving menu which was good.
