Mare

Mare is a located in a small side street enclave with a great patio that would be fun in the summer. The restaurant was very nice and the service was good. Their specialty is seafood so not suggested for vegans or vegetarians although they accommodated one of our guests.

It was an extremely busy night yet the service was perfect. She was attentive without being Intrusive. the manager came to the table to make sure everything was all right

Wonderful Anniversary Dinner.

My husband and I went to Mare on Thanksgiving evening. We chose the restaurant based on the write up and the reviews. We could not find it with the GPS although we passed right by the small street a few times and didn’t see it. Lol
The Seafood Grigliata was to die for. Grilled to perfection and enough to feed two people. We also ordered the Risotto pescatore which was delicious and full of seafood. . Definitely will return to Mare with friends.

My friend and I have been coming to Mare for years. Mare really delivers taste and cuisine. There is always a great selection of oysters with accurate description (we always get a dozen -2 of 6 kinds). We split the tagliatelle con aragosta (lobster) and mopped up every drop of the carefully prepared sauce with the remainder of our crusty bread. The bread, the best by far in any Boston Italian restaurant is baked in ovens in the bakery behind the restaurant which sells a variety of breads. You might consider finishing with an amazing tiramisu. Molto Buono!

Sent the wrong food. Ended up eating 15 min after my date.

I’ve been here twice, the first time was amazing and the second time was a bit of a disappointment. At first we were seated next to the bathroom and then the hostess moved us because she had the series of tables assigned to a larger group. I was glad because I didn’t have to ask to move. Sitting by the bathroom means you have people lined up next to you waiting for the bathroom, not to mention the ick facto

We then got the 2nd worst table, next to the stairs.

Lesson learned...ask for better seating when you book. The food can be amazing, but the seating can detract from it.

I do plan to go back...but I’ll ask about better seating

I will not go again on a Saturday night too noisy, could not talk to my date.

We made reservations early in the day, we had no clue the wait for meals in North End on a Saturday night. We did wait 30 minutes past our reservation time. It was well worth the wait. We had an amazing meal and terrific service. We were even treated with a complimentary dessert, that was out of this world. It was a bit noisy. (It is in every small restaurant in this area)

This was a wonderful surprise. The place was crazy busy, but the staff and the food were both great.

Too noisy, very hard to converse. Tables crowded together, servers could barely pass by each other. We really liked our server, she was attentive. Food was good although very pricey, ambiance was terrible. Maybe it’s better in the summer instead of how they convert it to indoor seating. Metal roof!

We always enjoy our time at Mare. Atmosphere is great and the food and service are always perfect.

Food was great as was the service. My only criticism is I felt rushed. Saturday evening, 7:00PM reservation and we were up and out by 8:00PM after a dozen oysters, 2 cocktails each, entrees and a shared desert.

Food was great. Halibut and Risotto were cooked to perfection. Priced as expected for a nice restaurant.

The food was amazing! The space was tight for the wait staff but comfortable for us. I was thinking about making another reservation for tonight!

Mare was disappointing. We eat out frequently and in the North End often, however, this was below the standard of quality and service we have experienced elsewhere. In addition, the food was expensive and in my husband's and my case almost in-eatable. The flavors were off in the pasta dish and the chicken was under-cooked in the chicken dish that we ordered. Our son's were satisfied with their lobster ravioli and halibut, however. In addition, you are really wedged in very closely to proximate guests and it is very difficult to move around. I would hate to see trying to evacuate if there was a fire. Also, the service was very slow, with the exception of the gentleman refilling water, he was excellent. I rarely write reviews, however, I really felt like we got a poor meal with sub-par service for a costly price tag.

Disappointing. Loud and crowded. Portions small for price. Food under-seasonedc lacked flavor.

Love this restaurant. Love the fact that you feel as if you are outside. Love the food, which is delicious. And love the service, which is attentive. There are always service people look to see if you need them. I want to come here often.

It's a co-opted parking lot out back, overlooking the highway. Might be nice in the summer ( except for the chain link fence that is inches from your head ) Their old location was fabulous. The food was excellent, though our waiter got both of our drinks wrong. My wife ordered a Negroni ( standard fare and a listed drink on their menu ) He brought a totally different even after confirming Negroni was what my wife wanted. I ordered a Belvedere Vodka and Chambord martini.What I got was a Bombay Saphire GIN martini! not quite, or even close to the same thing.

Go there to eat, not to drink

Each dish was outstanding. The service was efficient, with an attentive staff. Only comment is that it is very noisy. One of our party has a hearing issue so it was a little tough for him to hear. It's worth a trip to Mare however.

I adore this restaurant. When people ask for the best Italian in the north end i tell them about this little hidden gem. It’s such a great seafood/Italian combo.

My one recommendation to the restaurant management is to hire more valet drivers. When i went in a Friday night i was expecting my car to take 20-30 minutes to come out when i was leaving. That’s what the valet told me to expect. I ended up standing there for 1 hour. I went back in to Mare and the manager took my valet ticket. He waited outside for me, and additional 30 minutes.

He was great and handled it very professionally. He probably should have reimbursed me for parking. But i will let it go. But for the future if you’re going to be offering valet, in Boston, in a Friday night, you should be prepared.

Our waiter was very prompt and the food was delicious. I had oysters, a cosmo (delicious), and the scallops. After dinner my friend ordered a Pistachio Martini which was the bomb (in a good way)!!! The only downside was when we ordered bottles of water for the table the waiter would come to the table with the water bottle already opened. We would have rather him open the bottle at the table. After we were served the bottled water, the other waiter came around pouring us regular water from the pitcher he was holding? Defeats the purpose of ordering bottled water. Small thing to notice but noted. Otherwise, everything else our table ordered was delicious.

Overpriced, horrible atmosphere with crowded seating

Mare never disappoints. Sergio the manager makes sure that everyone in the restaurant feel like a very welcomed guest. The Servers are friendly and helpful and the food, the best!

The food was okay! Not my favorite Italian north end meal but the ambiance was nice.

We loved Mare. The Lobster Roll was the best I have had! Happy that we could sit outside - inside was very loud. One negative issue - small bathrooms.

We sampled five appetizers and a half dozen oysters on the half shell. The food was delicious and the presentation was amazing! I would highly recommend Mare to anyone who wanted to sample all the area has to offer in fresh seafood.
