   What a disappointment! First, we were placed in a room on the second floor that appeared to be a studio apartment as we had to walk through a kitchenette to get into the room. We were the second guests seated in the room and everyone seated after us were commenting to one another about the “ambiance”. There was also a full bathroom with shower and linens but no disposable paper towels. One guest coming back from the bathroom mistakenly opened the door that our table was placed against. They had no music playing but had a large tv with a hockey game on (it was not the Bruins despite them being on at the time). They used the room for wine storage but strangely had the wine stacked in the windows and in front of the tables. We had the Dine Out Boston menu which was a joke. The swordfish was at best 5/8” thick and the salmon portion, also small, was over cooked. The appetizers were also small. They definitely shrunk their portion sizes for the dine-out menu. So, what was good? Our server named Irving and the person who helped him were great as was the bread. On our way in and out the first floor dining experience looked vibrant. If we had wanted to eat in our bedroom we would have stayed home!

   Initially had been excited for the DineOut menu, as it presented a very good value. Very busy for restaurant week, which isn’t surprising. There didn’t seem to be a manager on-site. Not a friendly environment, service-wise. Hair was found underneath the entree and while a replacement item was offered (and declined), no additional follow up was received. Item was not taken off the bill. Disappointing experience.

   Be careful not to walk by the alley where Mare is located. You can miss the little sign that is on the wall. Table for two in the back, close to the couches and gas fireplaces, which kept us comfortable and warm. Our waiter Antonio was outstanding. No rush, great wine suggestions and fun conversation about towns in southern Italy. Cocktails were tasty, Pineapple Stoli Doli was a good refreshing starter. Bread was amazing, crusty outside and soft inside. Started with a dozen oysters, 10 from Welfleet, MA and 2 from RI. Ice cold and delicious. For entrees, my wife had the Lobster Ravioli and loved it. She was pleasantly surprised to see pieces of lobster on top of the ravioli rather than just inside the ravioli. I had the Gnocchi Frutti di Mare, also very very, very good and filling. Mussels, small sweet clams, calamari. Will definitely come back.

    The food was very good and savory. First time trying out oysters and I fell in love with them, now one of my favorite seafood. The waiter had wonderful customer service and recommended the best meal options. Great experience overall!

    Highly recommend Mare! The food and ambiance are exceptional! Well diversified menu and all outstanding dishes. We went during Dine Out Boston, and note that Mare easily had one of the best deals with a lot of options and great food for a great value. I will definitely be going back!

    Mussels and tuna appetizers were fishy, cold, and not good. Entree was ok. Our waitress didnt come back to take our order for 30-40 minutes after appetizers came. I enjoyed my previous visit there, but this one was underwhelming.

    Food and service were outstanding! Just not what we expected for a nice Italian dinner in Boston's North End. Music was loud, crowd was very loud, felt like we were in a club in South Beach. If you are looking for a traditional Italian fine dining experience this is not it.... but Food and Service fantastic!

    I was slightly surprised by the level of service provided by this restaurant. While the food was pleasant and good, and the drinks were delicious, I found the attentiveness of the staff somewhat lacking for a fine dining white table cloth establishment. Very rarely (about once during the entire meal) were we ever checked on to see how things were going beyond when a glass was cleared. The restaurant, while slightly busy, was by no means slammed, so this was slightly surprising. One of the biggest disappointments was the lack of any special thing being done for my partner and mine’s anniversary. We indicated it in the notes and while I do not expect anything grande, even a small acknowledgement would have been appreciated. When you come and spend 250+ for dinner to celebrate, I would expect a little something special to be done. A glass of bubbles, small gelato comp, or something. For an important night, the restaurant made no effort to make it feel as though it was, which was disappointing. However the good food and drinks (and the quick fix on the wrong dessert being brought) was appreciated.

    It was an average experience, nothing great about it, nothing bad about it. The service was good, attentive waiters. The food was good but nothing special I can’t get at a ton of other places. I was expecting more at this price point. Left me a little disappointed. We had the Fritura for app, the linguine neri w/clams and the wild boar papradelle.

    The waitress was nice in the beginning then because very rude when we decided that we would take our entrees to go because we had to go. She passive aggressive and charged me for a drink I didn’t drink. We still left nicely and get her a tip of 16 dollars and change. Other than her it was a beautiful place and I enjoyed trying octopus for the first time there :-)

    Mare was a perfect choice for a Valentine Date Night with my husband. We both had the Tagliatelle Lobster dish with black truffles, cherry tomatoes and Lobster sauce. Delicious! The presentation was beautifully executed with a split lobster placed onto of the pasta looking aquatic and gourmet. We shared a pear and goat cheese salad with mixed greens. The dressing was well done and tasted very good. My only criticism is that there were very few pear slices …. Maybe there were two small slices for the entire salad. I think there should be more. The restaurant is lively, playing upbeat contemporary (dance) music and the overall vibe is hip and a youthful crowd. Our waiter, Gaetano, had excellent manners and was lovely. My biggest criticism is the large, glaring TV at the Farr end of the main dining room stuck on sports channels overlooking the fire pit and lounges, ruining the ambiance. It’s a big missed opportunity to really create a classy, romantic, lively place to go. The TV glare is annoying and this should not be treated like a sports bar. The fire pit area should be the height of romantic and sophisticated. And first glance, the restaurant seemed tucked away on a quiet, small dead end side street that’s unattractive, but the overall ambience was very good. However, I would add artificial vines or greenery of some sort along the outside to obstruct the ugly chain link fencing through the windows. Or even inside to detract from the unappealing view I would also think small twinkle lights around the ceiling line would add to the ambiance and make it just a bit more magical. I would recommend this restaurant. The tables are not too close together but they are close together. It didn’t bother me and I liked the white table cloth touch too. The bar area is also nicely designed. It’s a relatively small space that they make work.

    This was probably the sixth time we’ve been there, from the first visit until the most recent visit everything was perfect!!! The waitstaff polite and knowledgeable, the wine list is perfect for all budgets the menu is fantastic as it the food, appetizers, raw bar and deserts. I highly recommend Mare to everyone.

    The ambiance of this restaurant was great! The food was pretty good but the lobster ravioli was very salty. We had a reservation but ended up waiting about 25 minutes past our reservation time for a table. Unfortunately, the only table available was in a corner and about 5 inches away from the table next to us.

    Always great food and drinks at Mare. Only downside is it’s very very loud so not the best date night spot if you’re trying to hold a conversation. Plus the tables are very close together. But overall great!

    Love the oyster selection! And the crudo is a generous proportion. Other expensive restaurants tend to skimp on the appetizer portions. Everything was delicious!

    Always great food and service. The Lobster cocktail was to die for. Best ever. Caci de Pepi was tasty but not served hot enough for being served table side. Great cocktails and bartender service before we sat down. Still one of our favorites!
