Phenomenal experience per usual. Our top spot in the city! Don’t forget to sit by the fire pits!
Loved our meal at Mare- delicious food and great, lively atmosphere!
Great bar great oysters and tuna was unbelievable
Our special go-to when I’m Boston. Haven’t been in a couple of years and it didn’t disappoint.
The fish was overcooked (cod), there was no sauce with it so it was a little dry. I was disappointed due to the fact it was highly recommended. The mussels were just ok the only flavor on the broth was tomato, and they only gave one piece of bread to sop up the broth. I don't think I will go back.
They have too many tables for the space so, for such a pricey restaurant you are right on top of the table next to you. They were on top of us rushing us thru the meal. The salad had too much dressing and the broth for the steamed clams was quite tasty, but the clams were so loaded with sand that the broth was crunchy. Lobster roll was delicious as were the fries. The baked stuffed lobster was also delicious. That and two glasses of wine totaled $232. A bit high for atmosphere and quality of food.
Noise level very high. Could barely hear the server let alone talk across the table. Service quite slow (if not for being in real Good company I’d have probably moved on). Food quite delicious — the salad was well prepared and presented, the oysters fabulous, the cod nice, delicate and moist. Price fair.
Wait staff was very attentive, food was delicious, ambience was the best part.
Excellent food and great service. Looking forward to going back.
Loved this place. The fire pit lounge area was so relaxing. Our dinner was delicious. The wait staff was excellent. So many lobster dishes to choose from, it was tough to decide! Highly recommend.
This is a nice private restaurant in a good location and excellent food. I highly recommend it for that special meal.
Wait service arrogant Oysters smelled terrible
Been to Mare many times but last couple times place going downhill
Given the prices and standards promoted on Mare's website I expected more.
First, oysters were dead, not dead-ish, I mean stone cold dead and probably opened before the service started and put on ice. If you take this element out they could have been good and the range of choice was exquisite...One mistake that ruins it all.
Second, entrées could have been good also, but...fish was way overcooked. Salmon cooked on the skin was cooked both sides and half the time of cooking it got would have been perfect. For the swordfish, same story but different, it was so cooked that it got as dry as my grandmother.
All in all, good products were disgraced by common cooking mistakes.
Given the price and standards promoted, this should not have happened.
I hope the kitchen reads this review and take it into account.
Wonderful food from appetizer to dessert. I highly recommend it for a special occasion.
Food was quite underwhelming. Portion sizes were good, but lacked in flavor. Service was good, despite how busy the place was. Would not recommend overall.
We stumbled across Mare a couple years ago and it has now become a destination when my team comes to Boston. the food was delicious, highly recommend the stuffed Lobster. Great service.
The service at Mare is always incredible. We visit a least once every few months and we can always count on Adina to take great care of us at the bar seating area. The oyster selection and preparation is second to none. Would definitely recommend Mare for the start of your night or for the last culinary hurrah of the night.
Excellent meal at a great price during Restaurant Week. Our server was attentive and helpful. I was disappointed that we had to wait almost 30 minutes for our reserved table, but sitting at the fire pit made it more tolerable. Would definitely return.
Tables to close together. Servers had difficulty getting around.
The service was a little slow and it was a little loud but other than that it was good food and an overall good experience.
We were there for their Restaurant Week menu! They had the best value and choices around!
The entire meal (app, entree and dessert) was beyond disappointing. The service was also not what I expected. I was rally looking forward to trying this place and other places owned by the restaurant group but now I am second thinking if I want to bother trying on of the other places.
Good food very good value all over enjoyable The best experience I have had during march restuarent. Week
Service was exceptional - polished and professional, yet warm and gracious. Food was very good - portions were generous - there was enough take 1/2 a meal home. Prices were reasonable (for seafood, anyway) and we would definitely return.
The busboy dropped a knife between my husbands leg, unintentionally. My swordfish was flavorless.
Lastly, I was given the wrong dessert.
This restaurant was spectacular! The staff gave attention to every detail and the food was absolutely delicious. We were looking for excellent seafood meals and we found them. My husband and I were celebrating a “big” anniversary and the staff surprised us with a beautifully decorated plate with Tiramasu and glasses of limoncello. Very nice touch!
It was amazing
Very delicious and they were able to accommodate a gluten and dairy allergy! Wonderful wine list and fresh seafood. Ask to sit inside- the outdoor seating was too cold with only a space heater.
Too many, very small, tables hammed too close together.
Great food and an incredibly nice wait staff!
Exquisite food, friendly servers and a lovely atmosphere!!! Can’t recommend Mare highly enough.
Got sick off the seafood during restaurant week
I think the restaurant week menu was not representative of the high quality of food they serve. We had oysters that were not on the restaurant week menu that were amazing!
Nice service, excellent food and wine. Will visit again soon
Fresh fish, Amazinh seared tuna. Delicious panna cotta.
Fabulous oysters, we shared eight between us and then followed up with seared scallops accompanied by asparagus wrapped in prosciutto and a lovely butternut squash purée. Stunning. Main courses were roasted brick oven chicken with a balsamic onion reduction and creamy mashed potatoes, my partner ate the sea bass, clams and chick pea special which looked and tasted terrific. Beautifully cooked. All washed down with a fine bottle of Soave Classico. Very good indeed, will definitely return.
Oysters were great, loved the pasta!
Loved starting at the fire pits. Great food and service.
There was so much noise that it was not a relaxing or enjoyable experience at all! We will definitely NOT go back on a Saturday night; might give it a try on a Sunday.
OK so here's a rather uncomfortable review that I feel compelled to provide:
The food at Mare is exceptionally good. Our waiter was excellent as well. And, while the table are a bit too close for my comfort level, I was able to handle the tight quarters.
Now here's the problem: North End rats.
My daughter and I were seated at a table where we both looked out on the alleyway where the restaurant is located. Through the zippered-in enclosure that is the back of the restaurant, we saw no fewer than three rats scampering back and forth along the alley. Not the restaurants fault, but a huge stomach-churning experience to say the least!
I get that rats have lived in the North End for about 400 years and that they'll still be in town 400 years from now. But restauranteurs need to lean on the City of Boston (and vice versa) to make sure that garbage is never, ever allowed to sit in bags on the street; it's time for pest-resistant trash cans to be mandated for every restaurant and residence.
I love eating in the North End and I'll be back there to eat. But it may be a long time 'till I forget this particular experience.
