Chopped green salad was actually arugula, not as advertised. And the arugula was old and hard. The seafood risotto was laden with cracked shells from the shellfish. Not an enjoyable dish. The cocktails were very good though.
First time in 14 months eating out in a restaurant and celebrating our sons 26th birthday (couldn’t celebrate 25th out). The staff was great at welcoming us and letting us walk through the restaurant (we had early reservations and were the only party in the restaurant), the ambiance was terrific. Started so strong - they served us a bottle of bubbly in honor of the celebration (was delicious), then warm French bread with herbed butter. Then it started to head south just a little. Nothing major but it was small things, like bringing soup with no spoons, or bringing out 4 entrees and having to wait for the 5th for several minutes only to find out the 6th one there was a mess up and it ended up coming 15-20 mins later. Forgot a side dish but they apologized and made up for it with a complementary escargot dish which was amazing. Coffee and dessert were all decadent but again forgot 1/2 the coffee order and had to wait. All in all it was an amazing dinner, we realize that staff is possibly not fully trained for fine dining as of yet and staffing is difficult everywhere. I overall we were just so happy to be in a beautiful space and out of the house that these were all forgivable issues. Thank you to the Marchesa staff for making a “second year Covid bday” something to remember and for sharing your elegant space.
Good Europeans restaurants are rare in Chicago. So we were exciting another good spot. Risotto was perfect, but scallops were not so good to my taste. The waiters were a bit pushy at first but then as they like to be in US, but then they were fine. Nice place, good wine and cheese. Recommend.
Really enjoyed our dining experience here. Menu is varied, lots of excellent items to choose from. I wasn’t terribly fond of the bananas foster dessert, but that could be a matter of personal preference. Service was superlative, and much appreciated . Would love to return.
We were celebrating a mid week birthday for a friend and decided on dinner at Marchesa. It was perfect- in every sense. The bartender Daniel was very engaging and adept and our waiter Nick was polite, informed and professional. The food is as good as the restaurant is beautiful. The photos do not do it justice. The chef even came out to do a meet and greet.
It was a lovely evening and I cannot wait to go back.
Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. Our bartender Daniel was awesome .... nice young man who made us feel very at home. Nice craft cocktail menu. The food was excellent. We had lobster bisque and escargot for appetizers. Main entrees were beef bourguignon and rack of lamb which was delicious. If you like old school French food this is the place to go. We definitely will be back.
It's a beautiful room, with first class service ... and the food is just incredible! A memorable night out!
Lovely except for the inattentive bartender (female). Went early to enjoy a cocktail first, then waited a very long time to be acknowledged to order. 2nd drink at dinner arrived as we finished so assume it was due to her, not our terrific waiter.
Mushroom soup was divine! Steak and husband’s risotto, brussel sprouts with orange excellent.
My birthday was never acknowledged 😕 ‘tho it was noted on my OT reservation
Exquisite! Impeccable service & atmosphere!Food portions were ample & delicious! Neighborhood gem.
We came here for our first date night in quite a few months. From the photos, we thought the place looked so cute! We were excited to try somewhere we had never been before and get all dressed up for a date night.
Before we even stepped into the restaurant, there is a large carpet piece outside the front door. Not like a rug you might see to wipe off your feet before entering, it looked like an actual cut up piece of carpet. Sort of odd.
Walked in and we LOVED the look of it. The bar is gorgeous. The paintings and lighting were so romantic. There are candles and flowers on each table.
The bread and my lobster bisque soup were great. My boyfriend had the steak tartar and the hawaiian tuna special that night. He said it was all awful but he was so hungry that he just ate it. My butternut squash gnocchi was good. We got the Bananas Foster dessert. It said it came with Coconut gelato but it was Lemon gelato. Lemon gelato and bananas, and chocolate sauce, and coconut flakes...not a good combo. We couldn't even finish it and thankfully our waiter took it off the bill.
Shortly after sitting, we realized the music was sort of like club music. We would have expected some french music or classical music. The music ended up being so loud that we could feel the beat of the music through the floor. We are in our mid-late 20s FYI.
The service was good. The restaurant looks beautiful. But we will never come back. For an over $150 meal without alcohol, it was most definitely not worth it. We did check out the upstairs when we first got there and funny enough, we thought it was way too quiet up there. Then we wished we had sat up there.
A very attentive staff and fantastic food in a great atmosphere. Will definitely be returning.
Utterly amazing food and service! Staff was caring and attentive to us.
Great food , service and ambience. Will go back soon for sure !
Exceptional! From the lighting, music and excellent decor. I had very important clients/friends in town for one of their birthdays and let Marchesa know in my reservation. I wanted a nice table if it was possible. The maitre'd completely took care of us. The drinks were delicious, we had the perfect table!! The I didn't catch his name or else I'd be singing his praises. It's people like this that "make" a place. He was very attentive and made some recommendations. The steak frites was perfection. The penne funghi absolutely delicious. And the seafood risotto - amazing. Then came the desserts recommended by the maitre'd - blown away. Absolutely scrumptious. As someone who went to school in France, everything was very authentic and very good. My new fave restaurant. All the waitstaff were efficient and very nice. We were in hog heaven when dinner was over and didn't make it to the champagne cave, but there will be a next time! Again, thank you to the maitre'd, chef Burrata and the rest of the staff.
Wonderful all around! Lauro was a great server and bartender in the champagne cave. Will definitely be going back!
Great food and strong cocktails. Will be coming back!
Came here to celebrate my moms 60th birthday. This was a great choice and everyone really enjoyed their meal.
I had a great time on my birthday. I loved the escargots and the cocktails. The music, lighting and general ambiance was just comforting.
Lovley time, fanstastic service. Look forward to coming back again.
Terrible service, very rude and disrespectful. The management helped to improve the experience but it was already very uncomfortable. The food was simple and nothing extraordinary, as well as the cocktails. Not worth it for the price.
We were seated upstair away but wanted to be seated on the main floor in a more lively area. Upstairs was very quite almost library like. The service was ok, took some time for us to get our first drink order in. Otherwise the food was just OK.
My friend and I visited Saturday night during Restaurant Week. We highly anticipated the visit. She had been there 3x before, but I had never been. The space is stunning. The hostess was friendly and really good. The food was good. The real disappointment was the service. Our waiter had way too many tables--including the front of the house AND the sidewalk cafe. He was friendly enough, but hurried and not particularly attentive. We both agreed that the evening was fine, but we expected more.
I'd recommend to friends with some significant reservations.
One of our favorite French restaurants in Chicago. We went this time for the Restaurant Week menu. I found Tiramisu an odd dessert choice and it was quite dry.
Restaurant week menu was a good representation of their offerings. Server was attentive without being intrusive. The setting feels very European and the art collection is impressive. Mushroom soup was excellent. Osso Buco was a bit on the fatty side, but tasty. Dessert was lush.
This place is really great, we've been here a few times and are always satisfied with the food. The value for the restaurant week menu was stupendous, also. Of course, the wine menu here is full of great French wine, and they have a nice cocktail menu as well.
The service is amazing, very attentive and knowledgeable server. Dishes were bussed and water refilled almost instantly. We tried to sit outside, but it started to rain, and the staff made no issue with moving us inside, which I know was a hassle for them.
This was a beautiful restaurant & tasty meal.
Perfection. I loved everything, felt like I was in Paris again.
Always a lovely experience!
We ate here for the first time during Chicago Restaurant Week. Everything was amazing! The food was delicious, quantities were perfect and the service was excellent. Chef Didier visited our table to make sure everything was to our liking. We will definitely return and I highly recommend the restaurant!
Beautiful decor, excellent service, good food and awesome wine and desserts. Visit the basement "Champagne cave" cozy and chic atmosphere, great music! Would totally go back and try other options on the menu...
Wonderful experience! Dined with a friend visiting from out of town and will definitely be back! Excellency at its finest.
Everything was delicious and the service was great!
I love the entire experience at Marchesa. The service was great, I had the Restaurant Week Menu and everything was delicious. The place is beautiful and the ambient music is really good too. I totally recommend it.
Very cute restaurant with great food and attentive staff. Had a great time.
Excellent meal and service. Nice ambiance and we will definitely return. Bravo Didier et son équipe.....
The food was absolutely horrific - almost inedible.
Gorgeous restaurant. Wonderful ambiance. Food is delicious and nicely presented. Host, servers, and wait staff are friendly, professional, and accommodating.
Server was awesome. The cocktail and lamb was just ok. Lamb was very rare, and the hubby ordered medium. The duck breast was cooked perfectly. Just not a stand out experience.
The whole evening was wonderful! We were celebrating a bday and it was very special. The staff is exceptional and food is outstanding. This was my 3rd trip here in a mo th!!!
Great service. Awesome food.
