Excellent, friendly service.
The food here was AMAZING! It was soo good! Being that I am a major foodie, I never like coming back to the same restaurants because I feel that I should always try a new place when I go out but this restaurant is one of the few places I would visit again and again! Highly recommended! The service was was great and the decor was nice as well.
Honestly some of the best food I’ve ever had. Definitely will be back soon
It was a perfect experience in every detail. Although relatively quiet inside the service didn't reflect any Covid compromise and the chef was kind enough to make the rounds and check on everyone. We chose indoor dining as it was extremely hot and muggy outdoors and cool and comfortable inside so that would be my strongest recommendation. The interior design is really nice.
Fish of the day
Fabulous decor and service!
This is a beautiful restaurant that has thankfully survived COVID and is as good as ever.
The menu has something for everyone.
The drinks are expertly prepared.
This place knows hospitality, and I look forward to my next meal here!
Wonderful Bastille Day menu with entertainment.
Marchesa was a very nice French restaurant. The Brussel Sprouts were amazing and the service was impeccable!
The service and food were outstanding! Will definitely be returning.
Nick was our waiter. He was the perfect balance of attentive, helpful & gave us our space. Dinner was almost perfect. First steak a bit overdone, but quickly corrected & generously handled. Highly recommend!
Good standard French cuisine. Friendly staff.
Best steak frites I've ever had!
We celebrated our wedding anniversary here. The service from beginning to end was excellent. The food was wonderfully prepared and the presentation was beautiful. The only criticism was that my steak was a bit overcooked. Our waiter noticed it right away and immediately offered to bring me a new one. I refused his offer. It was well seasoned and delicious.
Loved Marchesa. Looking at it for a while, and finally pulled the trigger. It was a great place for a date, and service and food were some of the best French in Chicago. Wine was superb at a very fair price. Champagne cave was super cozy for winter, and for small groups. Make sure you make a stop in there first or after dinner.
Excellent food and service, however the kitchen was down a person in addition to a private event, resulting in quite the wait for entrees. We plan on going back again because of the high service level and the dishes were well composed. In our opinion the delay was understandable, where we would’ve preferred it was the temperature, I’d would’ve preferred my mid-rare Duck order to be closer to rare.
Beautiful room and fantastic food. Service was high quality with good advice on selections
Excellent food, beautifully presented with attentive and fun staff.
Food and service were outstanding. A most enjoyable experience!
Wonderful dining experience, exceptional service... A true gem tucked away in River North.
My gorgeous girlfriend loves it. The atmosphere is very calm and the decoration is a mixture of various styles of European Art. We had the opportunity to meet the master chef, We also had the official tour which was very informative regarding the additional rooms and services offered by the restaurant. In all I would definitely recommend Marchesa.
Excellent food and service. Beautiful restaurant with enough space to have a conversation in a normal tone of voice. Not cheap, however.
We booked for Saturday night. After waiting over an hour past our reservation time the Manager actually suggested if we wanted to eat we should go elsewhere. The staff were also overheard saying “this is a sh*tshow”. I can’t speak to the food bc we left and went next door to GT Fish which was EXCELLENT.
The worst service in Chicago. I had a reservation for 8pm. When I arrived I was told that I would have to wait for 30 minutes to get my table. I waited for 1h and 30m . Unfortunately I saw the hostess and the manager accepting a bribe to sit a couple before the people that were in the line ( I was one of these people and I had a reservation). This is sad because I love French food and I would love to try the restaurant and become a client if I liked it as I live close by.
We were seated 20-30 minutes after our reservation time - after I asked. We were served our salad 1-1,5 hours after ordering. Entree 2-2,5 hours after ordering, and by the time we finished dessert, we had been there for 4 hours. Service was poor. Our waiter hadn't even noticed that we weren't served the first course (salad) and we had to remind them. Multiple people in staff blamed the abysmal service on the Restaurant Week (and I havent experienced anything like this in other participating restaurants). They also have to make sure the receptionist is capable of handling multiple tasks courteously. I will NOT go back to this restaurant. There is good french food elsewhere, for sure.
Seated 50 minutes after our reservation time. Took an additional 2.5 hours to get three courses. Food was under seasoned and not very flavorful. I know it's an offense to say, but needed salt! Duck was dry. Waiter apologized and said that restaurant was overbooked and comped our meals kindly. Was not worth the wait, very unclear why on the second weekend of restaurant week, restaurant was so woefully under prepared. Very few tables turning, could hear many people being comped around us or given free drinks. The whole 3.5 ordeal was frankly exhausting and our table was tired by the end.
First visit during Restaurant Week. Wonderful menu and look forward to returning. Wish duck l'orange was on regular menu.
Birthday dinner. Food & ambience was outstanding. Service was a bit slow but still good. Love this place. Would definitely recommend to friends.
It was wonderful , the food , service and ambiance was perfect!
Food and service were exceptional
Classic French dishes, with a lighter modern touch.
Wine list has decent, if limited varieties.
Great place for a date.
Honestly - it was just bad. Wow. The duck was dry, food was cold and the creme brûlée was mashed potatoes.
So sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your dinner. We shared your feedback with Chef and he, too, apologizes. Restaurant Week is one of our favorite times of year, but sometimes we miss the mark when such large crowds are dining. We humbly ask that you give us another chance and would be happy to arrange a tasting menu on the house, just give us a call at 312.527.9535 so we can arrange a special evening for you. Dinner at Marchesa should be delicious & fun & we'd like a chance to make this right.
service was attentive and solid. Appetizers and a pasta course were outstanding, full of flavor. unfortunately both entrees were a slightly over cooked and dry (sea bass and duck). Will be going back for a second look and hopefully better entrees.
We were looking forward to eating at Marchesa. Sometimes high-end restaurants are intimidating, though they should not be if they care about their patrons. This one made us feel comfortable. The entire staff was friendly and welcoming and could not have been more pleasant.
The food offered on the Restaurant Week menu was excellent. Everything was so tasty. The dessert was yummy.
It has a beautiful, warm decor. The staff is great. Highly recommended.
The decor was phenomenal, the bar was lovely ..the food however was a total miss. Very disappointed.
May have been an off day, but had a soup & app course then waited about 50 minutes with no entrees. At this point we were about 2.5 hrs into the meal. When entrees finally came out, they looked great but both fish dishes were cold inside and potato burnt in bottom. We opted to take the meal home at this point. It then took us another 20 minutes to get and pay the bill. The hostess was very apologetic and offered us a glass of Prosecco. When that finally came (as we were waiting on our bill) the glasses were half filled! No discount on the bill. It was clear that no one was in charge. Front of the house & Back of the House clearly not communicating and I assume the kitchen had NO leadership.
Went there for restaurant week and the food was really good. It got really busy and i think the staff was overwhelmed. I will definitely go back!
We were a group of 7 and went for restaurant week thinking it would be cool to try out a new place. We were extremely disappointed. After we were sat, it took over an hour to get our drinks. It took another hour before we were finally served our soups, which tasted good. The optional course came and was pretty awful. Then the main course came and it was just disgusting. I've never had duck cooked so terribly. I'm not sure how they managed to overcook the meat while simultaneously failing to render any of the fat. Some friends who ordered the lamb dish were also disgusted. I don't use that word lightly because I understand things happen and some nights may be off but I'm not exaggerating when I refer to our meals as disgusting. I also understand that things may be dumbed down for restaurant week but with tip our bill was over $100/person. You would think you could get basic french food for that price but at Marchesa's you could basically only get garbage. Nobody apologized for the incompetence or bothered to check how everything was tasting. None of us complained because we couldn't care less about this place and will obviously never be back. We weren't interested in any chances for them to make up because you could tell the place is ran poorly. The management and kitchen were a joke, and our room had a direct view of the kitchen. It's impossible to overstate each and every one of our disappointments in this place. I would strongly advise anybody reading this to go to kiki's or chez moi, even mon ami gabi is infinitely better. Just pure garbage.
On behalf of everyone, we apologize profusely for the experience you describe. We were indeed short 3 key members of the culinary team, due to the flu & asked a few 'civilians' to help. A dinner at Marchesa should be about delicious food served by caring staff in a beautiful setting. To the extent we failed, we humbly apologize & dedicate ourself to doing better. I would like to refund the portion of the meal that was unacceptable & invite you all back for dinner on Chef Didier. Thank you.
Service was fantastic, but the prefix menu was just soso.
Marchesa is a gem. We went there at 5:30 on a Thursday in Restaurant Week, so it was quiet and the service was outstanding. The room is beautiful and sophisticated. All three courses were large enough and superb. The mushroom soup may have the best we ever tasted; the lamb and fish main course were both delicious; the chocolate cup and creme brûlée's were beyond fabulous. We had no wait for our delicious food, and I'd recommend eating at this outstanding restaurant on a week night so that the kitchen isn't trying to feed 150 diners at one time, as on a busy weekend night. We felt the chef was a genius --flavors were so perfect! We will return.
Thank you so much JoanB! We really appreciate the kind words! Looking forward to your next visit.
EVERYTHING was exceptionally amazing. My soul is fed. Amen.
