Best restaurant in DC. 2nd time just as great as the first. What a spectacular place.
Calibrate your expectations! We expected an urbane French dinner, instead the Tasting Menu presented us with the equivalent of ~35 small French tapas from which to mix and match. While the food was very good, it was not the dining experience we wanted from this signature restaurant. Additionally the tempo of service was frenetic. We no sooner finished one plate than the next was presented. Again, reminiscent of contemporary US tapa service. When we checked the room, we found the service to be the same for everyone. While others may have find this satisfactory, we were dissapointed for a restaurant at this level. We LOVE Chef Wiedmaier's food, particularly at BECK and will revisit it; but this is probably our last visit to Marcel's.
This restaurant is absolutely amazing. I took my mother here and she LOVED it. The way the menu is set up is unique and classic, all servings are just right, food is impeccable, and the wine list is amazing.
The food was excellent. The innovative menu, where you can devise a 3, 4, 5, or seven-course dinner with choices from any of the sections was clever, and allowed us to sample many distinct appetizers and entrees. Everything was perfect; however in our party of four, the waiter got two of the drinks wrong, one of us ordered cheese and dessert in that order, but was served dessert first, then the cheese. Another in our party ordered as part of his seven course dinner two desserts; they were both served at the same time. The olive bread is excellent, as are the rolls. The tiny portions of three kinds of butter are cute and good-tasting, but two plates are not enough for a party of four - in fact, one plate is not nearly enough for one.
Great food! Great service! Great atmosphere! Great experience! A great part of a fantastic Easter morning in DC. We will be returning to check out an evening experience.
Had a really fantastic meal here. We went with the 4 course option: roasted lobster pappardelle; seared foie gras; bison strip loin; strawberry consommé w/ vanilla bean panna cotta. Everything really delicious. One of the best parts of the meal was our awesome server, who had a great casual and helpful attitude that would put anyone to ease in any fine dining establishment. Also - upon leaving the restaurant, we were given a bag of delicious macaroons.
It was lovely. I would recommend it for special occasions and celebrations.
Marcel's is over the top. Each course bested the one before it - both in taste and presentation. The wait staff is impeccable.
It is expensive, but the food was great. We went their for our anniversary and it was one of our best memories.
We came into town with high expectations for food, and Marcels was the standout. Both
my husband and I loved every one of our courses. They were all done to perfection,
perfect size for a tasting menu, and beautifully presented. While the restaurant is
rather formal, the service was perfect..not stuffy, yet knowlegable and attentive.
Fabulous and memorable meal. Jonathan, our waiter, could not have been nicer and kinder. He was wonderful.
We had the 5-course tasting menu and everything was delicious! We especially enjoyed the scallops, duck, and bison. It is an expensive restaurant, but worth it on a special occasion if you enjoy fine dining. The service was excellent as well.
Excellent service. Flashes of creativity and flawless execution throughout. The foie gras with strawberries and waffles was ridiculously good.
We chose the pre-theater option as we had tickets to the Kennedy Center. They were sensitive to the time, and the food and service were fabulous. The car service to and from the KC is a great option that added ease to our evening.
It was the perfect place four anniversary! Quality of every course was tops and the wine pairing per course made us savor every bite and sip.
What a wonderful restaurant! pretheatre menu, three courses to choses from the WHOLE menu!! Foie gras to die for! lamb in puff pastry, and a chocolate fudge souffle to finish! Who know anyone is the city was still cooking these classics! We were takin by their car service to our show at the Kennedy Center, but the real show was Marcels!!
Jonathon our server was wonderful, as well as the hosts and bartender. What a special place!
One of the best dining experiences we've had. The food was delicious. The staff was warm and engaging. The chef even sat and chatted about food and wine with us. We were so pleased, we returned the next day and the experience was just as wonderful.
Arguably, the best restaurant in town.
excellent overall as a 5 star restaurant.
The cooking is consistantly excellent. The varied dishes have their own distinct flavors. This is top notch food.
We were decieved with the discription of the food we were expecting. Other than that exceptional sercice and ambience.
Attentive service without being intrusive. All the courses were fabulous, but special kudos for the scallops and the Dover sole. Wil definitely return on my next visit to DC
Our Waiter, Jonathan, is a gem. Always gives great advice regarding the menu. Food is outstanding as always.
AS always Marcel's continues to be one of our favorites.
The dining experience at Marcel's was other-worldly. Suffice to say that we loved every minute of it. We arrived 5-minutes prior to our 7pm reservation (for 4) and were seated immediately, so cannot comment on the bar experience.
The service was excellent; we never once felt rushed and our every need seemed to be anticipated by the staff who attended to our party.
We all chose the 5-course meal and enjoyed everything we ordered. I'm convinced that nothing is bad at Marcel's because we each ordered differently from one another and all remarked how delicious and amazing everything tasted.
We will return to Marcel's the next time we visit DC.
Food was good, service was excellent. Place was too loud considering it was only a tuesday evening. Would definitely come back.
Went for the pre-theater dinner. Food was smaller portions but was very delicious. Slightly overpriced considering the size of the dishes.
Wonderful food and service. A bit loud, but it was worth it. We were there for my mom's 70th birthday, and they gave her lots of special attention.
The lobster papardelle were fantastic. I think it's a shame they dim the lights so much, because the beauty of the dishes is hard to see once the light fades outside. I did not care for many of their wine reduction sauces, sloppily sloshing over the plates. They were too much - too salty, too sweet. The duck was beautifully cooked. I did not care at all for the pork tenderloin. It was oversalted and lacked nuance. I think I'll go with seafood the next time.
Something of a let-down. (It didn't help that we had dined at the fabulous Citronelle the previous evening.) Food was well prepared, but not what you could call inspired. Marcel's is billed as Belgian-French, but I didn't see much evidence of Belgian-inflected dishes, though mussels did appear briefly in one preparation. There are 28 items on the prix-fixe menu, which, in my opinion, is roughly twice as many as there should be. A general face-lift would undoubtedly improve the experience, lightening up the mood, which inclines toward the drab side of the spectrum--browns and tans. My friend remarked that this is the kind of place you could bring a date if you didn't want anybody you know to see you.
Great food, great service, just perfect!
I've been to Marcel's several times and the food and staff never cease to impress. My girlfriend and I each had the four course tasting menu (there are multiple options available, up to seven courses). There isn't a specific wine pairing, but Ernesto put one together for us off the wine by the glass menu. I had the veal tortellini with morel mushrooms, diver sea scallop with scallop ceviche, boudin blanc, and filet mignon. My girlfriend had the lobster pappardelle, duck breast, filet mignon, and chocolate souffle. Everything was amazing, but the start was the boudin blanc, which could be cut like butter and melted in your mouth. It's a pricey restaurant, but the quality of the food makes it completely worth it. I highly recommend Marcel's.
The food was very good but not very innovative. the wine list had no half bottles of red available. The wine steward offered to seell me half of a bottle that was excellent. I was impressed.
Excellent food, and possibly the best service in the City.
We were expecting very good and got GREAT! We let them know that we were not on our way to anyhthing and wanted a nice evening. We received a slow but enjoyable pace and the best service we have received in DC in.....we can't remember!
Casually elegant....very good meal.
Excellent Menu choices with open kitchen atmosphere. Great customer service and food presentation. An outstanding dining experience overall. Delicious food was a plus.
You won't find a better kitchen in DC. The service is attentive without being pretentious. The room is warm and comfortable.
Absolutely wonderful! Marcel's lives up to it's reputation!
Quality of food was not commenserate with its pricing. If the piano was being played, we didn't notice.
