Here for a weekend visiting family. Stayed at a nearby hotel and chose this restaurant. One of my finest meals ever. Service was outstanding. Jonathan was wonderful. The best seared foie gras ever. I highly recommend this wonderful restaurant. We will be back for sure.
Very nice place very classy and good foie gras . I recommand
I went there for my 5th anniversary with my partner (husband). I had called ahead to tell them it was our anniversary and mentioned we were two men. I asked what they could do for us since it was our anniversary. None of the things they mentioned happened. Moreover we walked in they didn’t understand how it could be our anniversary and twice told us “happy birthday.” All in all the service made what could have been a special occasion into an awkward night.
Beautiful plating good food way too expensive
One of the best meals of a year which has included dinners at minibar and chez panisse among others. Exceptional service too.
Marcel's is always wonderful, and they've stepped it up a notch with their new menu. The restaurant is still beautiful and elegant following the renovation/remodel after the water main flood they experienced earlier this year.
Marcel's is a special venue for a special occasion or once a week date or night out.
Overall it was a good experience except the fact that I was not aware that complimentary dishes were charged. I thought it was supposed to be on the house, but it ended up on my check.
However, food was nice and servers and staffs were friendly. It was worth the money.
Great experience - food was absolutly phantasti. The interior is perhaps a little bite old fashioned
Jonathan was awesome! He made great recommendations and the food was the best I have ever had. I would highly recommend.
Everything was outstanding. A wonderful experience.
Beautiful restaurant; exquisitely prepared food; and marvelous service! Can’t ask for more!
My husband and I enjoyed a romantic date night here. It was upscale without being uptight. The service was impeccable. The servers were knowledgeable and had great recommendations. The caviar service was delicious. The wine selection is outstanding.
I have been a fan of Marcel's since the earliest days of its existence. This was our first post- flood visit and everything looked lovely.
Once again our dining experience was fabulous. We loved everything on the Chef’s Tasting Menu from the Citrus Marinated Maine Lobster and Seared Scallops to the Cherry Bomb Mousse. Chef Wiedmaier simply outdid himself as everything was absolutely delicious. The service by the staff was attentive and excellent as always. Lastly, Donna and I would especially like to thank Jonathan for making my birthday celebration extra special. Again thank you and we look forward to our next visit.
Missed the option to select a tasting menu of 3 to 5 courses. Please re-introduce this feature. Portions served for 3-course "a la carte" menu were a bit too large-- should be reduced by one-half
Superb ambience, service and food. Best for special occasion
Marcel's is still the best fine dining restaurant in DC - extraordinary food, service, and ambiance. And Chef keeps adding new dishes. So there are nice surprises every time. Finally, the presentation is incredible. Some of the dishes look too good to eat!
Everything was absolutely perfect. The service was amazing and they kept making sure we were comfortable and offered wonderful suggestions. We did the 3 course meal and I loved every single dish that was brought and I was completely full by the end. I would definitely recommend anyone who is in DC looking for an exquisite meal to go to Marcel’s.
Five star dining with five star service.
Pricey, but worth it.
My husband and I went to celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary. We felt as if we were treated simultaneously as royalty and as family! EVERYONE was lovely and attentive without being annoying or invasive. Chef Robert was the one to set my husband's Baked Alaska alight and did so with charm and grace. This was one of the top 2 meals I have ever eaten. Certainly not a place to go every night but so worth the splurge for a special occasion. We are already planning the next excuse for a dinner there!
Excellent as always
The food is quite good. For the price, I would expect no less, but would ask for no more. It is fairly priced for high quality dining. Contrary to what I saw online, there is no price fixe; everything is ala carte. My parsnip-apple bisque was excellent, and the salad nicoise was, well, a well executed salad nicoise. The tuna was of the highest quality, perfectly seared, and the dressing was well balanced. My partner's mussel gratin was very good and very rich, though not quite what we expected, as it was richer than most gratins. That is not a bad thing. The crispy veal schnitzel was, y'know, schnitzel, but she loved it. The food was all good. If I'd had more people in the party, the salmon carpaccio looked exquisite and the carp appetizer smelled amazing as it passed.
But while the food is good, the service is exceptional. The wait staff was professional, able and willing to do anything to make the meal perfect, timely and attentive without feeling obtrusive. It is quiet enough to have a lovely conversation without raising voices, and we only overheard neighbors' conversations if they were being loud (the couple next to us was happily celebrating their wedding anniversary, and were fun, but we could hear them laughing, but not about what) and we were listening.
Overall, I will almost certainly be back for dinner for a special evening. It's not an every day place, but the execution of the food and the amazing service make it worthwhile for a special occasion.
Amazing experience. Checked out the restaurant as a potential venue for our upcoming weddding. Yes, we will be getting married here and looking forward to sharing the venue with our guests. Thank you Marcel’s!
Probably the best brunch I have ever had. It was expensive but totally worth it. Also, the service was top notch.
Excellent food and amazing service. Best French restaurant.
I feel somewhat let down with the meals. If someone is going to spend $500 for a dinner date, you would think they are about to have their socks knocked off. I'm not sure if there is too much effort put into making the dishes we had or if they have been doing this type of work for so long the dishes lacked heart. Either way I don't think the meals are worth the cost and I will never revisit Marcel's again.
Amazing— go to Marcel’s if you’ve never been
Our server, Jonathan, was as amazing as ever. The dining experience was wonderful. We’re not sure we’re big fans of the new menu style but we really enjoyed the chefs tasting menu
Wow! Marcel's for Valentine's Day! What a treat in every way. We enjoyed the several-course menu that was the Valentine special-- I had the haddock and my husband enjoyed the NY strip steak. We both got the cherry bombe dessert, which was as big as an apple (but looked like a cherry, complete with a chocolate stem). There seemed to be layers and layers of goodies in that cherry bombe!
Best food I’ve had in my entire life. I’ve traveled all over the world and eaten at top rated restaurants, however Marcel’s was a magical experience of gastronomy.
Marcel's does great top-of-the-line French cuisine. We would recommend it highly for dates, special occasions, anniversaries, and the like.
Superior service and excellent food. I loved the salmon with garlic spinach and fennel puree and the passionfruit cheesecake. I was also impressed by the offering of three kinds of butter. The mustard seed one was my favorite. I have been to many restaurants in the DC area, and across the country, and was very impressed by Marcel's.
My wife had the filet mignon and I the schnitzel. Food was simply excellent. Service was amazing. Johnathan was incredible. Ambience was perfect for a romantic brunch or dinner. Really worth experiencing and well worth the price, and just a short walk to the Kennedy Center. You won’t be disappointed if you are looking for a place to have a great meal before or after a show.
We go to Marcels' a half dozen or so times a year and have enjoyed it very much. This last visit was the Saturday before Thanksgiving, so it was probably a little busier than normal. Had to wait 15 minutes or so for our table, but we enjoyed the live piano in the bar. The staff and food were both excellent, as usual. Remains a favorite place.
Since the restaurant has reached out to me to apologize for our experience, I have decided to temporarily remove the explanation of my rating in good faith that they will make right the valid complaints I shared by offering their prior menu and prices to all customers moving forward. Everyone makes mistakes and deserves a second chance. If they honor my request, I will also revise the rating up from where it stands. Stay tuned.
Impeccable service and elegant, beautiful, delicious food--this was a truly special experience.
