Jonathan was amazing!
Jonathan, our server was GREAT!!!!!
The food was great as well. BUT, after our first course, the next two came immediately after our plates were cleared. In fact I saw the food runner turn around and go back to the kitchen for a few minutes then come back out with the same big tray that had our plated on it. A meal / restaurant such as this, should not rush you with the courses. IT was slow due to the weather, I am sure that played a part, but for $400 a meal - pace the courses for a relaxing meal not slam the food at you.
Experience was top notch. Service was excellent. Food was not exceptional. Fine, good, just not awesome.
We had a beautiful, delicious anniversary celebration at Marcel's. Would have give it 5 stars all around, except that I was ill for about 18 hours following the meal. Was it the pan-seared foie gras? The scallops? Or something else? I can't say, but it was such a let-down following a spectacular meal.
Great place if you want true fine dining! Jonathan was super! This is a masters clas in service
Exceptionally good food, outstanding service - thanks Vinny!
One of the best food and service experiences we have ever had! Would recommend to everyone and look forward to going back the next time we are in town!
Wonderful pre-theater pre-fixe. Great service that accommodated both a late arriver and a deadline to get us to the k center in time, and a free ride to the theater to boot. Not cheap, but worth it Marcel’s then a show at the Kennedy Center is one of Washington’s true treats
Excellent service, outstanding food. Great pre theater stop. Great date night or special occasion.
Beautiful, elegant restaurant and the tables aren’t too close together
Great meal. Great service. They were very accommodating to my wife's allergies. She was able to enjoy the same extraordinary cuisine without worrying about allergic reactions. Our waiter, Vinnie, was friendly and helpful. All in all, our dinner was a memorable experience.
The service was outstanding ...now the food ...Foie Gras was the best I have ever had and then I also ordered the Terrine of Foie Gras .......their tasting menu offers something for everybody. Take my word this is probably the best restaurant you will ever eat at.
We had another wonderful dinner at Marcel's. Pre-theater with a ride to Kennedy Center and back. What could be a better evening?
Fantastic food, excellent service, very good ambiance.
Always a great experience being served by Johnathan!!!
Amazing service. Aesthetically pleasing. Great place to go to celebrate an anniversary or a birthday with your significant other!
We had wonderful meal! Our waiters was incredibly entertaining and the entire staff was helpful and welcoming. They even provided us with a car service back to our hotel. A memorable evening for sure!
Service was very attentive and excellent overall.
Was served a wring wine from the cellar. No sommelier appeared. That was a surprise for this caliber restaurant.
Marcel's is my favorite restaurant in Washington, DC. The atmosphere is elegant and relaxing, the wait staff is superb and the food is phenomenal. Just the best.
Excellent food, service and ambiance. A DC gem.
Always a treat to dine at Marcels! The ambiance, the staff and the dining experience are superb. The cuisine is delicious, the Dover sole, the lamb and the duck fantastic. One cannot make a bad choice. We will return again and again. Highly recommend this restaurant!
My wife and I have been to Marcel’s several times before. Unfortunately, this occasion proved to be a serious disappointment. Yes, the food was delicious. And the sommelier offered excellent recommendations for the accompanying wines. However, the service appeared to be undermanned. Consequently, the wait staff was occupied with customers who had been seated earlier at other tables. As a result, we had no opportunity to have a aperitif before ordering our meal and the service between courses sorely lagged. Until now our experiences here have been exceptional. Oh well, I’m hoping to chalk tonight’s experiment to being a (bad) fluke.
Two couples all of whom said that this was the best meal had in recent memory. Marcel's gets a 5-star ranking because that's as high as the rankings go. Food is incredible and the staff is top-notch. We got the 4 course and our selections were all exceptional to the point that all agree the Dover Sole was the best ever. The other dish that got that "best ever" was the Boudon Blanc... absolutely incredible. The venison is a must-do if it's offered. Fantastic evening enjoyed by all and made special by Vinny who took great care of us.
As always everything was superb.
The food, wine and server were outstanding. Wide range of food choices on the tasting menu. Well worth the price.
Outstanding experience at Marcel's on 12/15/19. Lovely space, a bit loud around us but we had no trouble hearing each other. The service was excellent -- knowledgeable, attentive, professional. The food was fabulous. It is pricey, but worth it.
Fine dinning at its best! Will be back! Try the coconut rice pudding!
Sublime—there’s no other word for dinner at Marcel’s!
Most enjoyable and the foix gras, the wine, and the service was excellent. We found the noise level and the general ambiance distracting. We will most certainly return.
Perfect service, great ambiance, and incredibly creative and delicious cuisine. Examples: poached bass with bok choy and fennel, a wonderful New Zealand venison chop, and another amazing foie gras presentation. Chef Robert is always trying new things, and they always seem to work.
After 21 years of fine dining at this now iconic outpost it is the very best in D.C. Wiedmaier is creative and has a deft touch that leaves one never disappointed. His team is outstanding as well. This dinner was my first visit in two years, yet the team was filled with long familiar faces, all who make one feel as if they are in a warm and friendly and happy home. As an elderly individual, there is special pleasure it being able to get the very best in DC without waiting in a line on a very cold evening. Marcel's is underrated by the star givers, as the quality for this diner is a full match for the finest establishments I have dined at in France and New York.
Outstanding. Finely crafted food. Expert service. Perfect special occasion venue
Another memorable dining experience at my favorite restaurant.
Marcel’s family is the most gracious and the expertly prepared food the most delicious!
Outstanding. John is the perfect waiter.
A really outstanding meal, with excellent service....Each dish was outstanding, gourmet quality.
A disaster from start to finish which cost a great deal. We were ten or so minutes late and the restaurant canceled my Open Table reservation. Once inside the first misstep was not entirely our waiter’s fault. Friends two days previous apparently informed him that we loved negronis (which we do, in summer). He informed us that he had two coming for us, effectively negating our choice of cocktail. We were seated near a man with a penetrating voice and asked to be moved, and chose the table offered in the bar. We were brought menus, and were informed that we could choose four, five, or six courses, and they could be any combination on the menu. When I tried to order four dishes, as I usually avoid dessert, I was then told that one course had to be cheese or dessert. So we rapidly changed our order to split a cheese and a dessert. We were brought our first course with our even having been given a chance to order wine. We sent them back, ordered a wine, only to be informed that we had been given the wrong wine list. Finally the sommelier was called, and suggested a Burgundy almost twice the price of the one I chose on the “wrong” list. I demurred. He graciously offered it at the price of the other. Things proceeded better from that point, although we had to ask for a second piece of bread. The wine was splendid, the food beautifully presented and very good. But a man came and sat quite near us at the otherwise empty bar and proceeded to conduct business very loudly. The waiter would not ask him to lower his voice. He was an important regular customer. The manager would not ask either. The man then watched sports on his phone loud enough for us to hear. At this point we were brought our cheese and desert at the same time. We asked for the bill, and in spite of declining the offer were brought a small plate of sweets with a candle for my husband’s birthday. The bill came with the wine at full price. Not the experience we expected at these prices. We will not return.
Great food and service.
Marcel's is quite simply our favorite restaurant in DC. Food and service are always outstanding. We particularly like the ambiance: the tables are well-spaced, conversation is easy, and orders come quickly without any rush.
