The restaurant did not exceed my expectations. Although the atmosphere was lovely, the food was not up to par for what it markets itself for. I am a vegetarian and I didn't feel that the food I ate was anything that knocked me off my feet. I was slightly disappointed that the vegetarian dishes lacked creativity and unique flavors. Although the restaurant has a majority of meats and seafood dishes, the vegetarian dishes were no excuse to slack. The service was hospitable, but not 5 star worthy. There were errors that the servers made that are essential to keep in mind at supposed quality restaurants, such as not removing one person's plate before the other person is done eating. Or placing both plates on the table at the same time. I think the overall experience was fair, but not as amazing as I had thought it out to be.
We celebrated my husband’s birthday, and we ate every last bite! Our waiter, Johnathon, was charming as could be and helpful with menu choices. The staff, ambiance and service were top notch.
We celebrated our 47th anniversary here and are so glad we did. It was a very nicely decorated dining room. We both ordered a 3 course meal. Both our appetizers were delicious - especially the boudin blanc. I ordered the magret duck for the main course which was outstanding. My husband picked an excellent dessert - the cheesecake. Our server Armando answered all of our questions & was very attentive. We'd definitely go back. One item, I love vegetables so next time I'd ask about getting a side of a fresh vegetable. I didn't ask to find out if it's a possibility.
A wonderful night out to celebrate a wedding anniversary. The meal was terrific and the service even better.
Marcel's has been one of DCs very best restaurants for many years, and after having their 7 course tasting menu, that doesn't surprise me at all. Each bite is so exquisitely crafted, every course better than the last. Yes, it's expensive, I mean really expensive, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. This is one of the finest restaurants in the DC area. Service was excellent, Vinny, our server was fun, professional and explained each course to perfection.
A pleasant surprise! Love French cuisine and it's difficult to find a good location. We'll return; enjoyed totally.
Great service, delicious food and a car to take to to the Kennedy Center. Marcel's is great for pre theater dinner!
Absolutely fabulous. Service, food and ambiance over the top excellent. My only critique was I ate too much. But that is my fault, right?
We enjoyed the 7 course chef's tasting menu. Each course was beautifully presented and delicious. There wasn't a sour note to be found. Beautiful decor and quiet enough so that conversation did not require raised voices. Highly recommend!
The overall of the restaurant is fantastic. It is pricey but, the food was good. The service was excellent. The waiter knows how to suggest or give recommendations.
This restaurant is one of the few great places of this type that remains in DC. Our waiter was exceptional. Truly a place for a special accession.
The food, service, and ambience here are outstanding. Well worth the price for an elegant, artful, delicious meal with attentive staff in a quiet, beautiful setting.
My favorite restaurant in D.C. for a special occasion. Great service, incredible food, and calming atmosphere.
Service was impeccable and not rushed. Food was excellent. Especially liked the Dover Sole.
Outstanding food and outstanding waiter
We always have an fantastic experience at Marcel’s. Food is always excellent but tonight was exceptional. Service was superb as always.
There is no better place to eat in DC and have a relaxed and enjoyable experience with great food, superb service , comfortable seating and be able to speak with your dining companions without a raised voice. Outstanding in every way
As always the food does not disappoint. A must try if you haven’t been here before. Great service staff. The Chefs additional one-bite course surprises are a treat. Will keep returning.
When it comes to that Special Meal for a Special Occasion, no need to waste the time nor energy--it is Marcel's all the way! Every time, Jonathan and his team will surely please the most discriminating guests!
Fabulous service and food that really makes the meal and experience feel special. Great anniversary spot or just a night where you can appreciate good food and being really well cared for!
Another great night at Marcel’s. Did the tasting menu with wine pairings this time and it was fabulous.
My boyfriend and I celebrated the 4th anniversary of our 1st date and it was wonderful! Our server, Mark, was charming and attentive. As a whole, the service was impeccable and everyone made sure that our evening was special. The food was outstanding! Marcel’s is quite deserving of its Michelin star(s).
Excellent food and Vinnie provided excellent service.
My girlfriend and I went to Marcel's before the Jay Leno concert at the Kennedy Center and I can honestly say it was probably the best meal I've ever had in my lifetime. I had the halibut and she had the foie groe along with the deep sea scallops everything was outstanding!
It's a very expensive restaurant but in my opinion worth every penny! A single glass of wine is $38 but hey life is too short to drink cheap wine right???
In summary the entire dining experience was superb!
Pre theater dinner before the Kennedy Center. So many good things to choose from. Best part is the car that takes you and picks you up from the theater! The service is 5 star as was the meal. I always enjoy my evening when I go to Marcle's.
Memorable experience. Very satisfy with the service and atmosphere. The sea bass & halibut tempted us for an encore. Merci.
I have been here many times in the past few years. Food is always excellent and they are willing to accommodate dietary restrictions. Our server Jonathan was very kind and helpful. However, this time I was disappointed by the sommelier. He did not bother to talk to my husband and me. He just took our servers recommendation and brought us a wine bottle. If he had bothered to ask us before opening it I would have told him we wouldn't like it. But we had to waste the first bottle. The second time I thought maybe he'd come back with the wine list a give a couple recommendations to choose from. Instead he just brought another bottle. This one was much more to our liking but at this point we couldn't send it back even if we wanted to. I felt very disrespected by this. I have never experienced this at any restaurant before. Their sommelier needs to get off his high horse and talk to customers before opening wine bottles that they won't like.
We have been to Marcel's before, but several years have passed since our last visit. The level of quality we remembered hasn't changed at all. This is one of Washington's best long-established restaurants, with fine attention to ambience, service, quality and care in selection and preparation of food - it provided just what we wanted for the observance of an anniversary evening (31 years since our first date!). The menu is excellent without being exhausting - a range of choice that still attends to Marcel's Alsatian roots while being extensive enough to meet just about anyone's desires. Staff recommendations were clear and helpful without being oversold. The wine list immediately filled our particular wishes for the occasion. Thank you, Marcel's, for helping us enjoy a significant milestone date in our lives!
My husband and I celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary at the restaurant and it was wonderful. Best culinary experience we have ever had! Kudos to the waitstaff; they were amazing.
In 20 years I have never been disappointed, always an amazing experience.
Impeccable service and a fantastic meal
Excellent food and ambiance as always. Consistent excellence every time!!!
Great service! A bit expensive.
Lovely service— quiet and discreet. The foie gras was excellent. A perfect place for a special night out.
Still the best fine dining in DC. The service is incredible. And there are always new treats to try. Especially recommend the wild boar, the soft shell crab appetizer, and all of the desserts!
Setting the high standard for fine dining as always, Marcel’s once again provided the food and atmosphere conducive for our important business meeting. Our guests were just as impressed with the service and atmosphere as the food. Robert Wiedmaier himself stopped by our table and is simply the most personable and friendly owner possible. Cheers Robert, thank you!
Marcel’s is a very romantic & fine dining restaurant. Typically we go there for a pre-theatre event @ the Kennedy Center, however, this time we went to celebrate a birthday. We loved the scallops, duck & lobster....The Sommelier taught us a little something about decanting old wines & the bartender turned us on to a great gin. The service, as always, was A+!
A special place. It was my 14 year old granddaughter’s first experience with French cuisine and it did NOT disappoint!! She said the scallops were the best she had ever eaten. We both had the duck which was perfectly prepared- juicy and rich. We’ll be back next time we’re in Washington.
