Marcel's by Robert Wiedmaier is DC's premier fine dining establishment for over two decades. During Covid we have been open and closed numerous times with very little notice and doing our best to keep up the times. We profoundly thank our customers who return everytime after we reopen, who have generously donated to our employee fund and purchased RW Restaurant Group gift certficates. One day soon, we hope to return driving you to Kennedy Center for their fabulous shows and concerts, hosting your private parties and work functions and seeing your maskless smiles. For the time being, we are open five evenings a week with limited capacity and offering a curbside three-course dinner.

We were delighted to finally return to Marcel’s after two years away, and it did not disappoint. We were celebrating our granddaughter’s Sweet Sixteen with an elegant dinner out, and this was the perfect spot. Everyone treated her like a star. The staff all came to the table to wish her a happy birthday, and the chef had both personalized her menu and invited her to the kitchen after dinner for a photo. On top of it all, she has celiac disease, which they handled perfectly. She finished one basket of gluten free bread and received another. The staff were able to modify all the dishes she wanted to ensure that they were gluten free, while still being beautiful and delicious. It was truly a special experience, but don’t wait for an occasion to come back to Marcel’s. If they resume their limo service to the Kennedy Center, all will be right with the world again. Thank you to all who made our granddaughter’s evening remarkable.

The Marcel experience was absolutely magnificent. The ambience was lovely, and the Moesh and Vincenzo treated me like a queen. I couldn't have been happier. I normally stay for an hour or two at an excellent meal out but stayed four hours. That is pretty epic for me and well worth the time and money. An outstanding evening! Highly recommend.

Those of us who have eaten there in the past are pleased that it is as good as ever. The only thing is that it is half filled. DC doesn’t seem to be working. Little or no taxi service. One needs to use Uber if not driving

One of the most amazing dining experiences I’ve ever had. Not only was the staff accommodating and friendly, but even the chef. They all went above and beyond for my girlfriends birthday and we couldn’t have had a better time. I highly recommend Marcels and can’t wait to go back.

Can’t say enough about the wonderful service. The food was just “good.” The duck, lamb, and steak’s texture and taste were almost identical. Plating and presentation were also beautiful, albeit a bit dated also. It might have been really hip but in the 90s, but it reads a little like like a chef who’s settled. A lovely experience, but for >$400, I would have hoped for more big flavor. I don’t want to take anything away from a nice meal, but there are better chef’s menus all over DC. DC is officially the food city I dreamed of back in 2006, when I moved here. Marcel’s feels like a remnant of the time before DC food got very very real.

As always a go to destination in Washington, DC. The quality of service, food, and wine stands out among similar restaurants in their category. Creativity yet simplicity is a hallmark of a great chef and chef Jenn certainly fits that profile. Flavor profiles are exquisite. I often say, if I can do it at home why come to the restaurant. When I go to a restaurant like Marcel's I want to be wowed! Chef Jenn brings the wow factor to the dinner.

While I have dined at a lot of different restaurants, this was my first 'fine dining' experience at a restaurant of this caliber. So it will be hard to review as I don't have anything to compare it to. That said, I will first say that the service was outstanding. My server, Mark, was exceptional in terms of how he carried himself and not only how he served me while having to cater to others while the venue was busy, but how he was able to make me feel important and like my presence mattered. For food, I had the pan seared scallops, pan seared snapper, foie gras, lamb, sirloin, and this chocolate dessert. The scallops and foie grass were to die for as the texture and combination of flavors reflected well the chef's skills and restaurant's caliber. The other dishes were very good and enjoyable as well. Each dish was paired with a wine. Unfortunately, I ended up drinking too much of the wine. It was a very amateur thing to do. Mark was exceptional in being understanding and encouraging, and even offering me a ride home which was unfortunately outside the establishment rules due to liability concerns. So, my only issue was when I got the bill and saw the $90 for the wine pairings. Meal was $150 which was listed on the menu. I am going to give the establishment the benefit of the doubt here. I can't recall, but I might have agreed to the wine paring over the phone when I called in. I don't recall being asked at the restaurant if I wanted the wine pairings. So, that was the only question mark for me. I don't regret it (except for drinking too much). The pairings were excellent and went well with each dish. Total bill including tip was $327 (20% tip). I don't know where this falls with other like restaurants. I'll just summarize by saying the food, presentation, and especially service, were outstanding. It was a learning experience for me. I'll just have to be more careful next time in terms of drinking and fully understanding items served and their pricing.

We've dined at Marcel's many times over the years. However, due to COVID, we have not dined there on a Friday/Saturday since before the lock downs began. Last night (June 26), we enjoyed a Saturday dinner. While it is always a special treat, last night seemed to be reaching a new level. New offerings mixed with familiar dishes made choosing our menu extremely difficult. The amuse bouche, that little something, to prepare the palate for what's to come was a tasteful beginning. The smoked salmon was treated with a little heat, but not enough to over power the subtlety of the salmon, the caviar and creme fraiche. One of the new items was the marinated tuna with mango, lime avocado mousse and other accompaniments that made this a delicate dish. For anyone liking sashimi grade tuna, this has to be tried. Another new item was the tempura squash blossom with garbanzo beans, feta and heirloom tomatoes. While completely different from the tuna plate, it was a nice addition to the menu. The scallop was perfectly prepared, as usual. Frankly, we've come to expect this perfection and while "routine" to us, it also means we are spoiled to the point of rarely if ever getting scallops anywhere else. The familiar items such as the Boudin Blanc, the duck breast and lamb loin, familiar to those who go to Marcel's "often", i.e., a few times during the year would not have been disappointed as these dishes were prepared to perfection. The duck and lamb were medium rare, as the chef would suggest. We both ordered the foie gras even with the additional charge. It was more like a dessert with the cashew panna cotta, fermented blueberries and blueberry coulis. Overall, an overly indulgent evening of food and wine. And, great seeing the familiar staff members catering to our needs and whims. The new dishes integrated with familiar favorites was a true ratcheting up the level of cuisine at Marcel's.

As always, Marcel's never disappoints. Food was excellent, service was excellent. Still my favorite restaurant in the DMV. Expensive but worth it. We would go there more often if we could afford the price and calories. But a few times a year is just fine with us knowing that we will always walk away with a smile on our faces. In the meantime, will continue go to one of the other RW restaurants closer to home until we have an excuse to go to Marcel's again!! :) Thank you Robert for creating such wonderful environments to enjoy our meals!!

This may well be Washington's best celebratory restaurant, and certainly is the outstanding French table in the city. Perfect in every respect, and would be an outstanding restaurant even in France. Perfection comes of course at a price--our dinner for three was over $800. But for the right occasion it's a price worth paying

We had courses of grilled Hamachi, Snapper , and Foie Gras. Serving sizes were perfect at 2 to 3 ounces for us Boomers. Dessert was very good. Not a high price($99) for 4 courses, just keep the alchohol choices reasonable, which is possible. Or enjoy a magnum of fine French wine for $3000.00!
