Marc Forgione Ratings and Reviews
The food, service and ambiance alone are enough to make this one of New York’s best restaurants. I’ve been here twice and each time Chef Marc Forgione came to visit our table to say hello and talk for a few moments. Such a kind and humble person. If you haven’t been to this restaurant you’re missing out.
Great cocktails and bar service. Waiter was attentive. Sommelier was awesome. Apps were good but entrees (swordfish, halibut and chicken) were all exceptional. Cooked perfectly, great flavors and well presented. Also don’t skip out on the 10 minute choc chip cookie dessert. Would def come back
The food is beyond amazing, the atmosphere is always a cool, confident, comfortable vibe but it's the staff that makes a memorable experience even more outstanding. We have been over a dozen times and have never had a bad meal or experience. .......it's truly a NYC experience that shouldn't be missed. Marc and the staff are always outstanding!
Beautiful ambiance. It was a slow night so the restaurant was very quiet. Delightful flavors and presentations. Exquisite service - knowledgeable and attentive, but not overly precious.
The food was spectacular. Interesting and unusual flavor combinations, beautifully presented. The Crudo with schezchuan buttons was a stand out. The scallops were superb. The roast chicken outstanding. Will definitely return.
Great food, service was just ok. Waiter was very confused when I asked for a vegetarian meal, and asked if I was "sure" that I wouldn't eat fish. However, the other attendants were excellent at keeping wine & water glasses filled, and my veggie dish was delicious. Great atmosphere, dim but not too dark and quiet enough to have a conversation.
This is my favorite NYC restaurant. We started with the smoked oysters that are so over-the-top flavorful and unique. We both had the halibut with the hazelnuts and cauliflower. The dish was so unique, layers of tastes and the perfect size. Love this place!
This was the second time visiting this restaurant in 5 years. The first time we were non-plussed with the food. We had hoped this time would be better because the place does get its share of accolades, but unfortunately it was a mild disappointment. The service and, especially, the wine list were excellent, but the food was only ok. Too much oil, salt, and the flavors are not subtle. The chef could let the ingredients do his/her talking more. A little more attention to detail in the food and subtleness in the flavors would help a lot.
Always an amazing meal at MF! We love the Halibut with the proposal sauce - we too would propose marriage to Marc! Had a special bottle of wine and the Sommelier is always helpful! The whole experience is great it's what keeps us coming back time and time again.
This is the third time I’ve been here. I try to come every time I am in New York and the service is consistently bad. Awful! If you are really hungry I don’t recommend because you will be hangry. The price for the food is a bit pricey. We ordered the huge ribeye, which was all fat and they preceded to tell us after the bill was brought that the price was for two people and the menu price was per person. I am a restaurant owner and a foodie, do I really give restaurants the benefit of the doubt. I mean hell, this was my third time because I felt I didn’t give the place a fair chance the first two times. I saw the Mexican helpers more than our server. We spent $500 for three people. It’s not the money, but enjoyment of going to dinner and the experience. Won’t be back there again.
We absolutely love this restaurant. It’s our favorite in New York. The menu is fluid with frequent changes, which is great for regular diners. Everything on the menu is top quality, crafted with significant attention to detail. The service is wonderful - that includes the bar where mixologists can make you a drink of choice off the menu. For the price, it can’t be beat in NYC! Also, it’s refreshing that they allow you to bring a bottle of wine for a small corkage ($25). You’ll never make a mistake recommending this restaurant
Server was very well spoke and knowledgeable. He did rave about the new lamb which was a poor piece of meat with sinew and no real taste. The cod was undercooked and over salted. The best was the scallop and risotto starter but instead of bay scallops it was served with 1 large sea scallops sliced in half horizontally.
Honestly, it was really a shock given the name on the door and prices. Probably, I got the kitchen on a bad night as I am sure It wouldn’t still be open if this was a usual meal.
Here for our anniversary and enjoyed ourselves like we usually do. This is our favorite restaurant in NYC now for many years and never has disappointed from day one. The service is always outstanding and we are always treated like family and feel very comfortable dinning here. Food is outstanding and the kitchen is always happy to fill special requests like making a special dish not on the menu at that time. We were lucky and truffles were on the menu so took full advantage of that. Go and enjoy one of NYC best placed to dine.
Overall, a great experience. Delicious and innovative dishes. A bit noisy, but we knew that. The problem was that our table was not ready at the time of our reservation, which has been confirmed a few times. 9:15 pm, came on time, table was finally ready by 10:15. I most certainly understand sometimes there is a wait even with a reservation but 1 hour wait it not acceptable. We ended up sitting by the bar, manager who was very nice indeed, found us a spot and gave us a first round of drinks on the house, which is definitely a nice gesture and appreciated.
