About this restaurant

  • Neighborhood gem
  • Good for special occasions
  • Good for groups
Founded in 1996 the ideas for the Marblehead Chowder House were actually hatched a few years before. Sitting at "The Barnacle," overlooking Marblehead Harbor one raw winter day, while the spume from the rough saltwater painted the windows and the Sam Adams Lager flowed freely, a concept was born. Casual, coastal and cozy - fresh seafood, fin fish, shellfish and hearty chowders in a warm, relaxing atmosphere that says "seaside" - a place that had tradition, patriotism, and a New England heritage about it. Fresh ingredients, house-made soups and chowders, comfort food with a twist freshly prepared to order were all musts! Features unique to New England were the foundation – Ipswich Belly Clams (aka steamers, softshells, pissers), fresh Lobster Roll, a Raw Bar with half-shell oysters and clams and, of course, live Lobsters arriving regularly. Lighthouses and other nautical décor highlight the ambience to create a coastal dining experience like none other in the greater Lehigh Valley.

My first time at Marblehead Chowder House. Was in Westampton overnight and chose the restaurant for a solo dinner. $1 oyster night! I was in heaven with my Chesapeake Bay beauties! Bread on the table was fresh and warm, and my seared cod dish with a key lime citrus sauce was delish! Homemade red potato mashed and a veggie medley of zukes, squash, carrots and green beans! Pure comfort … My server was delightful and very attentive. The restaurant is inviting and clean as a whistle. Pricing is very reasonable. I will be back and will bring fam and friends next time! Thanks to everyone at Marblehead!

We went to Marblehead last year to celebrate my husband's birthday. We had attentive service and great food and vowed to return this year. Unfortunately, we did not have anywhere near the same experience this time. We were hungry when we arrived, so we ordered drinks and an appetizer right away. It took 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive -- wine and beer, so no cocktail mixing necessary -- and 45 minutes to receive the appetizer. We were initially given a salad different from what I ordered, although the server corrected it, and my husband never received his side. Our entrees took about 90 minutes to arrive. Our server was absent through most of the meal, to the point where we had to ask another server for to-go boxes. When we could find our server, we gave her our credit card without asking for the bill first, as we were afraid if we waited on her for the two-step process of paying that we would be there all night. We skipped the dessert we planned to have for my husband's birthday and left for dessert elsewhere. Really disappointed after last year's experience. Hoping we just caught them on a bad night, but we will not be back.

This was the first time my wife and I dined at Marblehead Chowder House. Everything was excellent. From the drinks to the appetizers to the entrees to the desert. Christian S., our server, brought our courses spaced out and hot, as we are both slow eaters. My wife had the Crab Spring Rolls, and I had the Firecracker Shrimp. Both were very tasty. For our entrees, my wife had the Crab Stuffed Shrimp and I had the Seafood Supreme, Crab, Scallops, Shrimp, Calms and a half 5 oz. Lobster Tail. Again, both were excellent. For desert, she had Key Lime Pie and I had Blueberry Cobbler. Our dining experience was so good, we joined the Captain's Club Rewards before leaving. We make the trip to Rehobeth Beach Delaware and we are overjoyed that we tried Marblehead Chowder House. Much closer to home and better menu than what we had in Rehobeth. Overall, we are already anticipating our next visit to Marblehead Chowder House. If you are looking for a great seafood dining experience in South Jersey without driving to the shore, this is the place to go.

The food in my opinion was terrible. I ordered their signature crab cakes and it looked like a hamburger. The crab rice was not worth an additional 6 dollars. I not a complaining on spending money. However, to spend over a hundred dollars on this. I was better off going to a Apple Bee’s

Food was very good. We had a drink delivered to our table that we didn’t order and didn’t get our salad delivered that we did order. Service was a little less than it usually is and one table was exceptionally loud which the restaurant has no control over. We still will continue to come to Marblehead’s as long as their food meets our needs!!
