service and food were excellent at Maras will be returning.
I have often heard of Mara's Homemade as I am from Long Island. I believe that I first saw a write up in Newsday. I felt that Mara's would be great for her friend, Jack, who is from Oklahoma & loves chichen fried steak and bisuits & gravy. My husband & I were on vacation for Jack's 80th Birthday. What better place to celebrate his bday than at Mara's Homemade. I try different foods but my husband, Jack & his wife are not as adventurious. On the way over to Mara's, Jack kept repeating it is not Southern. I told him it has Southern food, also Creole & Cajun. Our birthday boy could not get over the line of people waiting for tables. I am grateful that I made reservations through open table. Since we were new to Mara's, we were most fortunate to have Jeff as a waiter to guide as through the many selections. Jeff brought two appetizers after we went through what we liked & did not like. We had Cajun wings with ranch sauce & catfish bread. We loved it all. For beverages, my husband & I ordered the jars of mixed lemonade & iced tea, one sweetened & one unsweetened, Jack had ice tea and his wife had freshly brewed decaf coffee. For entrees, my husband had 1/4 Baby back ribs, Jack & his wife had Southern fried Chicken with w
two sides and I ordered the Pecan Catfish. We all loved what we ordered. We ordered for the table 1 key lime pie. My only suggestion is that the key lime pie could be improved.
The food was delicious and unusual. The waiter was wonderful and very patient with us. Explained and made recommendations - all of which were delicious! Loved it. Will go back for sure.
I love this place-- the food and service is always great! Best Oysters in NY.
Yes I would recommend it is such a nice place, the ambiance was wonderful and everyone was so firendly
Great food ...all around a great experience I would highly recommend this restaurant to others.
The food was really good. Mara is always a wonderful host! Apparently they were down 2 servers and it took a long time for our main courses to come out. The server was extremely apologetic but there was nothing he could do about it. I’ll go back bc we always have a good meal.
Service was extremely slow. Very noisy. Prices are fair and the food was good. Oysters were excellent and the pulled pork was good. Most BBQ restaurants offer more than 2 kinds of sauces, not Mara’s. My wife ordered fried chicken and we were told that it would be around a 30 minute wait. It arrived after 50 minutes. She had a mint julep which was good. I ordered a Diet Coke with lemon. I received a glass of ice and a 6 oz bottle of Coke with no lemon. I thought $ 3.00 was a bit much for a 6 oz Coke.
Everything we ordered was excellent - I'd rank Mara's among the top value/price restaurants on LI. We need to visit more often!
Service was excellent. Food was ok
It took a very long time to get food
Wonderful attention to detail and very eclectic menu . Great bourbon and whiskey selections as well . Staff very knowledgeable. Maras desserts are beyond incredible ... save room !
Food was very good...lunch specials are terrific.
amazing service! the restaurant had a very homey vibe to it. it was pretty loud inside and it was difficult to talk, but otherwise amazing!
Love it! Was the perfect place to spend a birthday!
The noise level was horrific.
Food was ok but after waiting a half hour for the fried chicken (we were told about the wait) it should not have been dry. Told staff and the least they could have done was offer a dessert. The jambalaya tasted fine but looked like mush
In addition, napkins on the floor and an empty Gatorade bottle there as well.
Not for us although I know people who love it.
Bring your ear plugs if it’s a Saturday night. We had a 7:30 reservation. Had to wait but got table for 4.
We’ve been coming here since Mara’s opened. We have never been disappointed. It’s Soft Shell crab season their Po’Boy is delicious. The char broiled Oysters are beyond wonderful.
U had the catfish encrusted with pecans on top of mashed sweet potatoes. It was delicious! Done perfectly! Service was excellent! hats off to the chef!
The best food, as usual
Need to make a reservation
Great local place
Personable staff who were familiar and forthcoming about the menu.
Owner was pleasant,involved and approachable.
We will definitely return there.
Food was outstanding and service was incredible! Had fresh crawfish, alligator bites, baby back ribs, and hot chicken sandwich everything was very good.
The food here is consistently good and the service is always excellent. They are terrific about letting you taste any wine that your are interested in trying. My husband tried two wines before deciding on his choice and we were both happy with our choices. Most of the food is has some spice but if you let your server know what level of spice you are comfortable with, they will steer you in the right direction.
Mara's has some of the best food on Long Island. They also have by far the best customer service, true southern hospitality.
Great food, great service with a fair price. Sometimes wish the restaurant was bigger. Mara always makes you feel at home.
It's my 2nd time there, i went once for a lunch and then a dinner before a Westbury show ( which is a short 10 minute drive). the menu is rocking with plenty of options, with plenty of variety that makes you step out of a normal dining comfort zone. You really have to appreciate the tell Chef and owner pride. Our server Lauren was A+friendly and Mara the owner made triple stop bye to make sure we were happy. I wish more places had this recipe for service, lip smacking good food and making sure the patrons are satisfied. Great job all around, thanks.
We love mara’s southern kitchen, the stuffed crawfish bread is outstanding! The spicy artichoke among many other delicious food you will find at Mara’s. They treat you like family. Oh and I can’t forget the many different cocktails and drinks.
Very good food and an extensive selection of bourbons. A little pricey and noisy. Friendly and mostly attentive staff.
Fabulous Cajun cooking Etoufe and Jambalya and grilled Oysters were to die for
Pre Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras Family dinner, as always, food is authentic Cajun style, craw fish we’re outstanding, Hurricanes and desert were fantastic. Erica takes care of us every year!
It was our first time. We really enjoyed it. Very friendly accommodating staff. Mara herself came to our table and spoke to us. Impressed!
Jambalaya was very dry and lacked spice (heat) it was bland .
The Gumbo was loaded with meat however it was bland.
Food and Service were excellent. Great choices if food and beverage. Consistent over many visits. A very special place that I recommend.
Wonderful. I felt like family going there for my 1st time. Mara herself works very hard to make sure everyone is comfortable and happy. Thank you.
Always a good meal in a relaxed environment. Love the new menu!
We enjoyed our time at Mara’s . The food was good and plentiful
Outstanding selection of bourbons and whiskeys
I've eaten here many times and had excellent meals, but last night was not one of them.
Extensive drink menu. The food was delicious. Impeccable service. Will definitely be back.
