To honor the changes of the season in the garden, Maple dishes up American cuisine informed by classic technique, market-fresh produce, and subtle Latin inspirations.
Join us for dinner during Enchanted: Forest of Light! Maple will be open for dinner exclusively during Enchanted, November 17, 2019 through January 5, 2020 offering soul-warming dishes including slow-braised bone-in short rib, grilled Atlantic salmon, roasted pumpkin ravioli, delicious desserts and seasonal cocktails! Kids menu also available.
I really like eating at the Maple Restaurant after visiting the Descanso Gardens. Their brunch is great.
This time, I went for dinner. The chicken breast was perfectly cooked and tender, the roasted vegetables juicy. The staff is always exceptionnally kind and professional.
Food was below average and pricey.
Trying to serve $$$$ food in a park cafe doesn't work. Although the food was well prepared and the staff friendly and attentive, it's too pricey for what you get. Poor value proposition.
Came to the Maple before we went to the Night of Lights. Food was amazing! Tony, our server, was delightful and kind. The slow-braised short rib with mashed potatoes and kale with a red wine reduction was outstanding! From the presentation to the tender short rib, the flavor was delicious! The entire new dinner seasonal menu looked amazing. We also had the roasted pumpkin ravioli that tasted like Christmas with a hit on cinnamon. It’s a little too sweet for my liking for an entire plate but my mom loved it, and that’s all that mattered :)
Food was great and service was excellent and very accommodating.
I love this restaurant. I saw when we were there that the location is being taken over by the Kitchen for Exploring Food. I’m sorry about the change because we have really loved Maple. Kitchen will have a lot to live up to.
Excellent food and service, in a beautiful locale. Had no idea this gem was even nearby. Go early to beat the rush. We went at 11:15 with reservations on a Sunday but wasn’t really needed, perfect timing before lunch crowd.
Delicious food! Beautiful location ! We would love to come back again.
Good food good service, very pleasant to be in the garden having brunch
Food quality and chef flexibility are non-existent.
I liked the idea of this restaurant and the menu much more than the actual experience. One member of our party had to send her coffee back twice because it was lukewarm; we were there when they opened, so this surprised us. Two in our party weren't impressed with the beignets (they are avid beignet fans). When my food arrived, the protein wasn't hot, or cold, it was just ... there. I chose not to send it back because none of this was our waitperson's fault, but it was rather disappointing.
Pleasant relaxed atmosphere. Good food. Excellent service from a first-rate, forthcoming and friendly server. Absurdly ostentatious verging on comedic menu - good selections with unintentionally hilarious descriptions. To wit: "Farm Eggs". Good thing too, as people abhor eggs which come from places other than farms. Such as, umm - Cities, perhaps? There were several other listings in with a French word or two which were supposed to make the menu appear elevated. They DO NOT! They make it seem as if the menu was written by rubes who believe putting on ridiculously failed airs of sophistication add to the experience. It doesn't. It only serves to make the management look like fools. Just call things what they are. In English. Without clueless descriptions and pretensions that French nouns infer sophistication.
Again: Good food in a pleasant atmosphere served by nice people.
Our server was Fabulous! Food was awesome and it was such a beautiful morning we wanted to hangout and catch up, we never felt rushed!
Very nice experience! We chose to go early to avoid the crowds as it is very popular. Especially enjoyed the outside seating.
The food was absolutely delicious and unique. The service was respectful and efficient. We will definitely return next time we visit.
The worst restaurant in all of Los Angeles. This plays reeks of bad service, food, and poor vibes. If you want old tap water, soggy disgusting cold food and waiters who are easily overwhelmed go to this place. I left feeling sick and disappointed at the potential of finding a new favorite but experiencing one to avoid. Go to the cafe next door NOT MAPLE. Branding and nice pictures cannot make up for the terrible and repulsive experience we had.
They seated us 30 mins after my reservation which was a bit inconvenient.
The ambiance is lovely but the food was terrible, I had the burrito and it was all egg with an egg on top? I paid $18 for that?
No thank you
Another lovely brunch at Maple. Many guests linger and reservation times are not always timely. It's very loud and difficult to have a conversation. The new tomato toast - delish! The server was professional and congenial. I wish they were open more days....just suggesting.
The food and service at Maple is almost always excellent. Unfortunately almost every time I have been they seem to overbook the restaurant with both walk-ins and reservations, so the waitstaff always seems harried. I still would come back, but make sure you have a couple hours to spare if you are brunching on the weekend!
Slow service Noisy, Overpriced my dish came out cold then they brought out a slightly luke warm version. They did comp my meal but we were there hours and got poor food and slow service. Even with my meal comp'd the bill was high
Very loud to the point of uncomfortable insdie--if weather is nice outdoors is much more pleasant.
Sunday as 9:00 AM: The tables were beautifully set, the servers looked elegant wearing white shirts, black pants, and long mustard colored aprons. The music was soothing, and the perfect volume so that one could have a conversation . The service was attentive, and unhurried. The menu creative, the food beautifully presented and delicious. Though the weather was cool we were comfortable because of the warmth which was created by the sunlight on the light mustard colored umbrellas. The brunch was perfect up until an adult began speaking loudly to a toddler in her party. Unfortunately she was unaware of how disruptive she was, not that she did not need to speak so loudly to the sweet well behaved child. Families frequent the gardens, thus I know to expect loudness in the future. All in all, it was a wonderful dining experience. I'm looking forward to returning with friends.
Our server kept forgetting about us. He forgot to put in an order of pancakes for us. I also didn’t get a chance to put in my order, I only got a side to start. After he forgot an order of pancakes, I didn’t see the point in ordering anymore. We left feeling like we didn’t get the experience we paid for. Such a shame.
Food was lacking flavor. Took a very long time to come out and it was cold. I kept reminding my server for water then creamer and sugar for my coffee. Then I had to remind her a second time for the creamer. When we were ready to order dessert she wouldn’t let me finish my sentences about what I wanted. She assumed she knew what I was asking for and it ended up being the wrong thing. When we asked her something else, she said we’ll just wait because I have to go to the kitchen to get it :/. She comes by asking if we needed anything else and she was like “oh yeah that’s right. I have to put your order for that” . The outdoor sitting was the only thing I enjoyed.
Had a wonderful time. All the staffs were very friendly and attentive to what we need. Foods were good. I'll definitely go back.
Our waitress, Wen, was just perfectly catering and good at her profession. We would come for the food, staff and ambiance again. We had special needs for my mother in a wheel chair and cognition, Wen couldn’t have been more kind. The food was on point, beautifully fresh and not drowned in sauce. The atmosphere was not pompous, rather homey in the outside patio, quiet and the bookend of the brunch was your amazing desserts. Thank you for a great experience for my fathers 80th birthday.
very beautiful place to have brunch for a birthday, i very much enjoyed my time at the restaurant!! food was beautiful & delicious, space was soo beautiful and very nice people working there as well.
I wish I could remember our waiter’s name, he was so kind, professional and attentive! The food is unique and of great quality, the coffee is delicious (intelligentsia). Really lovely ambiance in nature with a lovely breeze coming in from the open windows!
Service was a bit slow on a Saturday afternoon. Latte came out after the food
The food was delicious and the service was impeccable.
Definitely going to come again.
My sausage was visibly undercooked and I couldn’t even get a server’s attention to bring it up. My americano took, no joke, 25 minutes, and when I brought it up our waitress was surly and made me super uncomfortable. I’ll be making a point not to return, which is unfortunate since I’m a member at Descanso and had such high hopes for regular brunches at the restaurant. They are not very helpful about gluten free FYI. Seem to have a good protocol for it but the server was rude and clearly unknowledgeable, I didn’t feel taken care of. No gluten free toast.
Overall it was a nice experience, but the hostess was very rude because we had a few less people from our reservation show up. I apologize if it was inconvenient, but she got an immediate attitude and sat other people before she sat us when our entire party was ready. Besides her, maybe having a bad day? The waiter was really nice, energetic, and had a lot of patience with our large group. Everyone else was friendly and helped us when we needed something.
Prior to our stroll through Descanso Gardens, we decided to have some breakfast at the restaurant located on the grounds - Maple. Service was initially slow; however, the waiters courtesy and attentiveness made-up for it. My family enjoyed their brunch meals! The price is very reasonable for the quality of food, ambiance and service. We’re definitely coming back!
A very nice restaurant located at the entrance of Descanso gardens. Food is really good and service is always impeccable. Great menu and drinks, I would highly recommend it and you can go for a walk afterwards into gardens. It’s a win win brunch place!
Overall, as bland and mediocre as the community in which it is located. There is absolutely nothing special about this place, and when seated, there’s no way to tell that you’re even close to one of the most beautiful and serene parks in SoCal. Food is only OK, it has horrible acoustics, and the drinks cost more than the entrees. It is not worth the effort...don’t bother. IHOP would be a better choice than this place. Certainly, a better value!
The food was great. I had the lobster cups.
The menu said it came with toasted bread however, both the kitchen and the server didn't seem to notice.
I asked the server, she said no it didn't. Then I asked for a menu and she said oh, it does.
Then she had to go back and remind the kitchen.
We had a great first time at Maple celebrating my mom's 70th birthday. They brought out beignets on the house for our table and I thought that was a nice touch. Great food and service. Will definitely be back.
Food and location are absolutely divine. Our server was very kind, accommodating and lovely as well but we had some trouble with our visit:
1. We ordered steak and eggs, a lobster salad, a tomato toast, cold brew and an iced tea. The lobster salad and cold brew came out quickly followed by the tomato toast. It wasn’t until these two meals were already devoured that we were told the kitchen never received or steak and eggs order but that they would be bringing it out ASAP. When they did, we still hadn’t received our iced tea. I basically watched my boyfriend eat his steak and eggs and drink iced tea while I twiddled my thumbs.
2. One of the servers was nice enough to offer us complimentary beignets. But to be honest, if they really wanted to do something for us, the steak and eggs or the tomato toast should have been taken off the bill. We never “cashed in” on our beignets because we didn’t have room for them and dietary restrictions currently prevent us from having treats anyway.
3. What’s the point of OpenTable allowing me to say it’s my boyfriends birthday as a note on our reservation if nothing happens when I do? No mention of it at all when we arrived. Nothing. Really made the experience lackluster.
First time here. And last. The only reason to go here is if you’re already visiting Descanso Gardens. And even then, it would be better to dine elsewhere. Not at all like the photos on their website. Substandard from start to finish. The only highlight was a nice server. Otherwise, very disappointing.
