Maple Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Seated for 12:30 Lunch but took awhile (12-15 min) for the server to “see” us even if restaurant was not full. The Chicken meal that I want to order ran out. Not many food options, I.e. no fish in their menu. On the positive side, the supervisor was attentive and made sure our order get served promptly. Server was professional too. Maybe they were just short staff with the party going on across the hall - Birch room.
Food was mediocre at best. Service was so slow...it took 45 min for them to bring our meal out to us. When we finally received our food- over easy eggs we over cooked and syrup tasted like it had soap in it. However, our waitress was very apologetic and helpful.
Very slow service, our food took forever to arrive. We did get complimentary beignets for our wait, however, they were bland in taste. The food was not flavorful to my taste, like the beignets, it was bland. Patio seating was “blah” for it being in Descanso Gardens, they need more greenery and flowers, too much concrete. Overall, was not impressed and felt embarrassed to have my friends make the drive to sub par restaurant.
Celebrated my birthday with brunch accompanied by a large group of friends. The spicy Bloody Mary was simply fabulous and came in a healthy size glass. We started with a couple of plates of freshly made beignets which were hot and delicious. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. My huevos rancheros were very good and the traditional breakfast and the eggs Benedict both came with a choice of sides and looked delicious. The dining room is large with outdoor dining available. The setting is beautiful and the service was good.
It was a cute restaurant. The place was busy for brunch...but I made reservations for 11:45. We didn’t get seated until 12:15pm. Disappointed that we had to wait that long especially with reservations. Service was great and food was delish. But don’t think I would want to go back even with reservations since we ended up waiting.
We brought a group of eight, including my 98-year-old dad and mom, who have difficulty walking, and had a great time. We were seated fairly quickly after having made an Open Table reservation. Food was delicious, even according to my somewhat fussy 98-year old dad!
Very friendly and attentive service. The pancakes were very hearty and savory, and we’d recommend it. The fried chicken was good but nothing spectacular. Portions were very generous, and we couldn’t finish it all. Maples was a nice surprise at the Descanso Gardens.
What a find!
The avocado toast was enthusiastically enjoyed by our teenage guest.
The chicken and beignets were fantastic! Surprisingly not at all greasy and very delicious.
This is not a dish I would ordinarily order as I am very nutrition conscious, so glad we decided it was a "cheat" day.
They only thing I would suggest is that they offer more healthy choices such as yummy omelets without cheese. I know you can always request that they leave things off, but then the taste they have created is usually lacking. Better to make the omelet with mushrooms, tomatoes and avocado for nutrition nuts.
We will definitely return.
The service was outstanding.
They did not get our birthday desert request of the berry sorbet, in spite of continued confirmations: first through OpenTable, then when I had to call back to confirm our confirmation, and then again with the hostess upon arrival. What arrived was a scoop of vanilla (must say good) with chocolate surup, with no candle, nothing fancy what so ever. I would not recommend you order the bottom less mimosas, because they are not going to come to your table frequently (at all)... you have to Dan your server to get a second class...hardly worth the extra six dollars. The Mole omlet should be described as an exotic a vegetable omlette, garnished with a super spicy (why?) " dollop"of Mole, and the smoked salmon Benedict is...let's just say "don't bother." Good ingredients, horrible execution
This was my third time at Maple. I truly enjoyed by first two times, but now that the restaurant has been open for a while the quality has downgraded. The breakfast burrito used to have quality meat. This time it was filled with extremely fatty sandwich meat. The quality was worse than what you'd get at the market prepackaged. My husband ordered the fried chicken, and it was amazing. Perfectly seasoned and meat falling off the bone. Be careful what you order. There were a lot of yellow jackets that wouldn't leave us alone as we dined outside.
A delightful and quaint restaurant perfectly suited for a moment away from the craziness of life. With a changing menu every 2 to 3 weeks of fresh local produce based meals, it offers a nice variety in two simple courses. It offers something for the vegetarian as well as those who prefer meat dishes. the choice of indoor or outdoor seating makes this restaurant a nice choice. When the weather is particularly nice intolerant, reservations might be hard to get last minute. if you don't mind a very limited menu and are open to trying lots of new and unique dishes, the 6th priced meal is the perfect way to spend quality time with friends, family, and co-workers.
Very disappointing first (and probably last) experience. Service was slow and inattentive despite being mostly empty toward the end of brunch. We had high expectations for the food and unfortunately we're very underwhelmed by the fried chicken and burger. To top it off, our brunch for 4 was over $100!!!
Having seen the article headlined "New Descanso Gardens Restaurant Might Become LA's Most Beautiful Brunch Spot," I have to say the interior seating is very ordinary with no beautiful view. Taking good friends from out of town to brunch on a beautiful late summer/early autumn day, it was my first visit and I did not know to request outdoor seating. When we arrived, they told us it would be 20 minutes or more for a table outside, and the only indoor table available was right next to the door.
The food is very good, creative without being bizarre. The interior was somewhat noisy, but we had a good meal.
We were pleasantly surprised with our lunch at the Maple. The service was wonderful and we felt at ease throughout. We took our time, enjoyed the people watching, music in the background and the 2 courses for lunch were tasty. After we took a stroll in the gardens and it all made for a great afternoon.
I was really looking forward to dining at Maple but was very disappointed. The food was very good but that is not enough to bring me back. Maple suffers from the same problem as the Descanso Café, which is an EXTREMELY slow kitchen. The servers were fine, but no excuse was ever given for the delay, especially, since there were only 2-3 other tables occupied for brunch on a Saturday. I expected the place to be packed, but it is evident that interest has quickly dipped due to the service problem. The place was also not warm or inviting and it was too quiet. There was no background music or any sound to speak of. The cold concrete floor, spartan furniture and décor further added the depressing ambiance.
We had lunch at Maple in beautiful Descanso. The wait staff was wonderful and we enjoyed the food. It was a two course fixed price menu. I had the beet and buratta spinach salad and salmon tostado. The salad was delicious and fairly large. The salmon dish was good. It was about a two ounce piece so a fairly small portion but fine when combined with the first course salad. Definitely will eat there again
We were very excited to try Maple because we frequent Descanso Gardens and thought it would be an awesome addition. However, the food was mediocre. I had the Huevos Rancheros which was dry and tasteless. My husband said it was the worst Eggs Benedict he has ever had. Someone at our table had the Fried Chicken and BEignets which was good. The portion sizes are small relative to the price and quite frankly, a bill of almost $180 for a brunch for 4 people was a little over the top. We will not be going again. THey would do well to get a chef who knows how to make good brunch items.
They Might get it together but it was really not worth our time or money.
We went for brunch and the staff seemed overwhelmed and the hostess was not very nice.
It's a short menu and my husbands omelet was boring with a skimpy filling. I ordered Huevos Rancheros and it was good except both are breakfast potatoes were under cooked.
The dish to get is definitely the fried chicken & beignets. We didn't order it but it looked good.
