What a wonderful spot in the Copley Library! I came here with my husband for afternoon tea on a dreary Friday. Both the Map Room and the adjacent Courtyard Room have lots of cute touches--your menu is placed inside an old book (the tea selections are also printed there) as a bookmark. The prix fix charge is ~$40, but includes the tea, the fancy sandwiches, scones, and desserts. Everything on the tea platters was delicious, and very filling. My favorite sandwich was the chicken salad and my favorite dessert was a tie between the mini fruit tart and the chocolate cake. There is also a a wine and cocktail list that utilizes the teas if you want to have some adult beverages or have a true champagne tea! I will definitely be back!

Pretty disappointing tea service. I was thankful that they could accommodate my dietary restrictions but the food was nothing special.

The restroom situation on a weekend is a bit dire. Long walk and very long wait - you miss half of the tea and it disrupts service. Otherwise, beautiful space and presentation, friends thought the table seemed a little crowded, but food was good and great space and creative menu presentation (in old books).

We had a reservation for Mother’s Day brunch, but the hostess acted skeptical when we arrived and was not exactly welcoming. The food was pretty mediocre, and some of the desserts seemed stale. The setting is okay, the waitress was not unfriendly but not attentive either. Overall it seems pricey for what you get but I guess you are paying for the experience as much as the food.

The tea menu was lovely and delicious. The Cocktails were fabulous and I loved the steampunk touches to the room/ambiance. My only compaint was that it took a long time to get our tea (after cocktails & first course, it arrived as we were eating tea sandwiches and pastries.) Other than that, it was a real treat.

Our Tea experience was fabulous! The tea flavors and cocktail selection made it hard to choose just one! The food was delicious...couldn’t believe the amount that came to the table! Excellent and attentive servers. Very fun ambiance. Can’t wait to go again.

The Map Room was very dark, as was the table setting. The tea (Vanilla Chai and Earl Grey) was good, but the food was average. I asked for an extra PBJ sandwich (extra $2) and cream (extra $1.50) for my 11 year old son as he was still hungry. Tea was $45 for adults and $19 for children under age 12. While less expensive than afternoon tea at hotels such as Taj, Langham and Mandarin Oriental, I really didn't like being "nickeled and dimed". They might consider charging more and giving customers extras when requested. I hesitated to ask for more lemon curd and ate my dry scone without accompaniment.

Overall it was nice and the service and food were good, but the experience was spoiled a bit as we were seated at a table near the entrance and kept getting bumped into as there wasn’t enough room for people to enter the restaurant. The room in the back is spacious and nice, but we were seated the crowded and loud first room, which was recently converted from the cafe.

Amazing venue - great food & tea. Still some kinks in front of house. Appreciate attentiveness to detail. Put treating customers/prospective customers like crud because there is a wedding is no way I would hope a library bar operates.

Put stronger guardrails up for events like weddings and do not let planning ops (like for a big event) interfere with current customer experience as each of us are paying and worthy of attention as well - as the library seems to seek to be a deep place of equality and table for all.

When serving the tea I suggest to give verbal reminders about how you ensured to select robust enough steeps should be explained.

Lastly, top notch place, set, and dish. Thankful for the service and look forward to my next improved visit.

Tea service was lovely
We definitely enjoyed the food and the service was great. I think the bar menu should be an option at the tables. We went to grab lunch and ended up with a top dollar bill for tea. It was lovely but would have been great to have options.

Unless you enjoy having high tea in a noisy, bar-like setting, this is not the place to do it. Too bad they never even warned customers the usual room for high tea where I had been before won't seat anyone after 3 pm - I would have cancelled the reservation if I had known their management does not consider 5 pm an appropriate time for high tea. Pastries on the tray are mediocre at best, and waiting staff has no clue about how to serve tea... This is nothing but a bar for quick drinks inside Boston Public Library. Big disappointment.

Ambiance was great, we had the Hugh tea which was pricey at $39 a person and was heavy on the sweets/scones where I would have preferred more of the sandwiches. Sandwich bites were very small (I expected small, triangular sandwiches, but these were incredibly small.) service seemed a bit rushed on a Thursday night - left full, but more from the sweets than the tea sandwiches. I would go again and try something different.

Fun, experience, tasty food and a bit different to your average cafe. Love the high tea selections (very tasty!) and tea infused cocktails and the tea selection was also great. Our first cocktails were a little slow in coming out (and we noticed a table that ordered after us got theirs first) but they were worth the wait. Our waiter was very sweet, but possibly new so some things got a little mixed up but he did try very hard to be attentive and mostly noticed when we needed extras like water top ups and more drinks.
Overall, loved it and I will hopefully be back again.

Loved the ambiance, the concept, and, especially, the SERVICE. The drink (Dorian Gray) was wonderful but we were very disappointed to find that if we sat at a table we could only order the high tea tray to eat. It wasn't clear on the website that the bar snax were only for the bar. For this reason, I would think twice about returning.

It’s somehow a lot better than I remembered when I was there a couple years ago! Good service, great assortment of tea sandwiches and sweets. Cocktails were good too. The part of the cafe we were placed was a bit too dark for an afternoon tea vibe but still very enjoyable and well decorated so we didn’t mind so much. Overall a great experience, I prefer this over the afternoon tea at the Taj.

Great tea-infused cocktails - the Tequila Mockingbird and the 1984 were the best - and the tiny sandwiches and scones and pastries were delicious. The tea too! So many options! Service was exceptional and the ambiance was great - cozy and comfortable. Loved the atmosphere: the architecture, the maps on the walls, the nice little touches (like the menus inside books). Can’t wait to go back to try the rest of the menu.

Such an amazing hidden gem in the library -:) food was lovely and very tasty though the bill is not for the faint of heart - but worth it for just an experience.
