About this restaurant

Located in the Arts District of Los Angeles, Manuela unites chef, farmer and artist to create an authentic and original dining experience. Under the direction of Executive Chef Kris Tominaga, the menu celebrates seasonal ingredients sourced from the best farms and producers in Southern California.

Serving a wide range of vegetables, grains, fish, and game, Manuela also features an exemplary bar program, which serves classic cocktails using house-made bitters and tonics. Local beers are on tap, while the carefully selected wine list is designed to pair with the smoke and acid at the heart of Manuela’s menu.

Designed by Los Angeles native Matt Winter and named for Manuela Wirth, the restaurant is illuminated and animated by specially commissioned works from artists Paul McCarthy, Mark Bradford and Raymond Pettibon.

    Angel was incredible, the food was incredible, the options are incredible I think I just found my new favorite restaurant! And I’m gluten free and a pescatarian, which isn’t always easy to accommodate!

    As a whole, the food was phenomenal, the host was excellent, and the food runner and busser were lovely - the server, Luke, however, not so much. The night started out very well with the host. He was very kind and accommodating. We had the pork chop, the duck, the halibut, the smoked trout, the shrimp aguachile, the snap peas, the potatoes, and the saffron ice cream. There wasn't a touch of blandness. My favorite was the duck, though I would say that parts of it were a bit too aggressively spiced - but, again, that's better than blandness. I wish it were still paired with plums like it used to be. The server I originally desired, Christine, was unfortunately not there - but she was on maternity leave, so much congratulations to her! The only problem, albeit a major problem, was the service by our server. Apparently his name is Luke according to the receipt. It was the third-worst service by a server I have ever had in my life, the only worse service being by Cheesecake Factory and Red Robin - though, to be fair, I have also had excellent experiences at both of those restaurants with other servers. From the first impression, I got red flags that he didn't even introduce himself. It is acceptable if a kind host doesn't do that, but if a server who is here to serve and help you for 90-120 minutes at your table doesn't do that, then it suggests that they are not emotionally with you and that they are not are proud of their output. Overall, he was very detached and half-assed. Pretty much all he did was take our order and give us the bill. No guests should be treated that passively by their server, especially ones who were there to celebrate a birthday. At my job, the servers are supposed to introduce themselves, regularly "touch" the table, and be present at the table when food is being delivered to ensure accuracy. Not only did he do neither of those things, but he lacked heart, soul, and spirit. My general manager would not allow an employee to get away with that.

    The host was very adamant about not seating us until our 5th person arrived, which seemed a little harsh, and we had a huge gap between our first and 2nd courses with some 2nd course items not coming for more than 20 minutes. The chef sent out an extra order of carrots to pacify us, but too bad the delays occurred because otherwise the dinner would have been excellent.

    We were recommended by a local who said this place was her favorite in DTLA, and I am so glad we chose to try it. The ambiance was beautiful, the place was a vibe, and the food and service was just the best.

    I took my mom to Manuela for a Mother’s Day dinner, and we had a wonderful experience. The atmosphere was lovely and relaxed, perfect for a special evening. Our server, Angel, was fantastic—attentive, kind, and made us feel truly welcomed. The food was absolutely delicious; every dish was thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. A memorable night overall. We’ll definitely be coming back!

    Food is always good service is a bit slow but food is made to order is what I was told so get there before your really hungry overall great experience food was excellent
