Manta at The Cape a Thompson Hotel
Daily 5:00 pm–11:00 pm
There was a problem with the order of the tasting menu - we ordered the three tastes plug the set soup and dessert at the onset. We were served in a haphazard order eg. steak before fish making for a disconnect in our attempt at pairing wine - by the glass - with the meal.
Expectations were higher given our having dined at Olivera’s other establishments is Mexico City and New York - Pujol & Cosme.
A great value, well worth the trip. The chef is delivering eight elevated, refinement Mexican cuisine. Favorite dish was the grilled octopus. My beautiful girlfriend also enjoyed the tuna belly sashimi.
Having eaten at Pujol, we were expecting dinner at Manta to be the highlight of our trip. We were VERY disappointed. Not a single dish on the tasting menu was memorable, and the final dish of spicy miso soup with shrimp was nearly inedible. More specifically:
- the sashimi with aji amarillo was not flavorful
- we could not taste the sea urchin in the sea urchin and yellowfin tostada
- the miso-marinated fish taco was good but not better than you could get at the best taquerias
- the birria was no better than our local (and inexpensive) restaurants in California
- the spicy miso and shrimp soup had a strange flavor and was nearly inedible.
Finally, we discovered that dessert was not included on the tasting menu. Given a choice between eating at Manta again or, say, Taqueria Guss in Cabo ($600 vs. $16), I'd pick Guss. If you want a great dinner in Cabo, I strongly recommend Toro instead.
Amazing food and service. Super fresh. Excellent cocktails as well. Olvera is a pro.
The food was delicous, and the presentation was good. Our server, Eric, was very kind and passionate, and he helped us in our dining experience. The only thing that could improve a little was the dessert.
Small menu but very exquisite. Very attentive and welcoming personal. Unforgettable views and atmosphere.
Our best meal in Cabo (the desserts are a must). Great service, the nicest view and a great ambience.
Excellent SERVICE, amazing food!!
Manta was exquisite. Unable to narrow down our menu selection, we opted for the tasting menu - the only option being a 5-course meal. It was excellent but too much food. Three courses were more than enough. Recommend offering less courses as an option. A brilliant wine list and a very attentive staff made for a magnificent evening at The Cape!
Amazing food attentive staff and spectacular views.
16percent vat and 15 percent service. ( svc added never mentioned by wait staff when giving the bill) and all not worth it . Small portions and vegetarian options terrible. Last time for us.
Lovely ambiance but food was pedestrian, uninspired and very expensive for what it was and the way presented.
Embarrassing for Enrique.
Manta was absolutely amazing. The food was incredible, the view was outstanding, and the waitstaff went above and beyond to serve us. I would definitely go back.
Amazing tuna and view!
Too expensive for what it serves.
It as lovely
I have eaten all over the world and have always loved any restaurant that Enrique Olivera has been connected with. Manta is no exception Best culinairy experience in Cabo easily.
Extraordinario! La mejor comida
Great service by Mario and Wendy. The food was incredible especially enjoyed the sweet potato in almond mole sauce. Highly recommend and will definitely return. The view was spectacular...
Beautiful setting with breathtaking sunset views.
La comida estaba muy rica, aunque las porciones son pequeñas. Nos preguntaron si festejábamos algo, les dijimos que un cumpleaños pero no tuvieron ninguna atención especial en relación al festejo.
One of the best restaurants I have been to. The food is excellent accompanied by the view. You must try the sweet potato with mole, it’s exquisite.
Excellent food and nice wine list. Stunning hotel and roof bar.
The Manta at The Cape was recommended to us by a friend and it did not disappoint it far exceeded our expectations!!! Can't wait to go back when we return in November!!! We celebrated our Anniversary and I had forgotten that I mentioned it in my reservation and they surprised us with desert and complimentary champagne!!! The service was impeccable!!! The food was amazing and the ambiance was beyond gorgeous!!!
Decor was beautiful very modern and the view was breathtaking. Food was good. Small portions
Great in all ways
Super high-end place. The whole hotel is a breath taking Designed. Highly recommend if you like to try new food and experience. The mushroom tamale was out of this world and I never eat tamale 😳. The sea bass taccos was insane. In general the whole ambiance the wood and the lighting was just perfectly designed for making you feel spacial. Must go is you are in Cabo’s.
Expect a nice experience in a cool venue. The food is good---get the 4 course option and enjoy sharing.
Beautiful views of Cabo and wonderful flavorful new style Mexican food with Japanese and Peruvian influence. I highly recommend the sashimi and oysters, as well as the mushroom tamal. Will definitely go again.
Una de las mejores cenas que he tenido! La vista está increíble
Thanks very good dinner and will see again future
Amazing ambiance, food and service. Five stars all the way
Took 40 minuets after being finished to get check and leave
Food was very good and service was professional and cordial, we had a great dinner, we will be back soon!
Manta is truly incredible! We have enjoyed upper scale dining experiences all over the world but we keep coming back to Manta. The quality of the food is incredible, every dish is our favorite. On behalf of two intl’ foodies, make sure you don’t miss an opportunity to eat here. Book it...now!!
Terrible experience-overpriced loud restaurant with poor, inattentive service. Do not recommend. Go to El Farallon instead at The Resort at Pedregal for a far better high end experience.
Too expensive for Mexico. Too expensive for the quality of food. Too expensive for the wine list. The Thompson Hotel is amazing, even if expensive. The Manta restaurant is a robbery.
We visit Cabo every spring and look for new places to try. While the views at Manta are spectacular, the food was good (not great) but nowhere near the price we paid. Portions are EXTREMELY disproportionate to the price. There are better options with the same views.
Very disappointing and we'd be hard pressed to return.
