We'd been to Manny's once before and were looking forward to this visit. It was, however, not up to the same level as our previous visit--though it is still a very good value for the price. The place was full, and there were only two servers trying to accommodate a large crowd. That meant that the quality of service suffered. One of our party was brought the wrong order, but the waiter scurried away so quickly that we could not tell him. He finally realized the problem. One of our party ordered one of the Greek specialties and found it rather ordinary. But Manny's is not bad by any means--just not in the first tier of Charleston restaurants.
Manny's was much, much better than I \had anticipated. Mistakenly, I had assumed it was a just a glorified bar with somewhat better than average bar food. I was wrong. Sunday brunch was delightful, tasty, and well priced.
The service was bad-awful. Our server was distracted and inattentive. The food was only OK and definitely overpriced for what it is. We had the wings appetizer and that was the best part of our meal (sad as this was our lowest expectation option). The meat calzone leaked grease all over the plate and was generally inedible. The Greek salad looked good on top, but the inside had lots of wilted/brownish lettuce. The dressing was too oily and bland. I don't think we'd go back for a meal. We might consider for delivery/takeout, and by trying other options.
We went with friends to see the Gin House Boys and got a very good table so could hear the band, yet still talk. We all ordered Greek-American food that was yummy but our waiter really 'knocked himself out' to give us great service - he and the band made the night! Nice selection of beers, too.
Wonderful local feel with good food. Sunday brunch is excellent!
We love Manny's and go there for dinner pretty often--it really is our neighborhood grill. This was our first time at brunch and we were really disappointed. They open at 11 and we had an 11:15 reservation. We were surprised to find only 2 occupied tables (each with 3 people) since it's usually hard to get seating at Sunday brunch anywhere in Charleston. I guess we learned why it was so empty: Two of our four meals were served after about 40 minutes, and a third came out about 5 minutes later. The last dish came out about 10 minutes after that (they sent out an order of hummus and pita during that last wait). When the order did come out, it had to be sent back because the eggs (on the breakfast pizza) were raw--clear and runny (in the meantime, two other tables that came in after us got served). We appreciated that our waitress didn't hide or ignore us, but acknowledged and apologized for the wait--she was great. They also didn't charge for that pizza--thank goodness. Nevertheless, we'd rather have good food served in a timely manner than free food and a spoiled brunch. I'm sure we'll be back for dinner, but probably will head to one of the many consistently good spots around Charleston for brunch next time.
We ordered the greek pizza and a greek salad. Great choice. I also love the gyros with greek potatoes
