Mangia Mangia - Albany, CA
delightfully an unforgettable chocolate Souffle'. So welcome, come to our table and eat, you will be served well, you will eat well. Mangia mangia
I love Mangia Mangia, and enjoy taking my friends and family there for special occasions. Everything except the noise level is wonderful. The food is terrific in this family-run place. The chocolate soufflé dessert is a must; so rich that two can share it. And there's always parking nearby, a plus in Berkeley! Go, soon!
Unfortunately we found a piece of plastic in our tiramisu.
We had never been there before. We will definitely be back: it is now our go-to pasta place. Enough said.
We were on our way to a play in SF and thought it would be nice to have a relaxing dinner in the East Bay beforehand, and we are so happy we did. We were greeted at the door with big smiles and big hellos. We were seated immediately even though we were early for our reservation. The staff was attentive, courteous, professional and knowledgeable. We loved the open kitchen concept watching madame Chef cook away! The lemon shrimp orzo was great and the bolognese was spectacular. The wine list gives just enough choices without being overwhelming and although we are kicking ourselves for not ordering the chocolate souffle, the gelato was tasty. Would highly recommend for couples, families, and special occasions.
The service was excellent and friendly. I loved the orzo with shrimp dish I had though I wished it had been a bit less rich. The chocolate mousse dessert was as good as ever.
It means a lot to me that the restaurant has been in business for 25 years and is still apparently under the same ownership.
This is a favorite for us and many of our guests from other places in the world.
This feels (and I think is) a family restaurant - no pretensions - but wonderful, high quality and mostly traditional Italian cuisine. The menu is very wide ranging within the Italian geography and is great for vegetarians or carnivores alike. We've been coming here for 15 years or so and it never disappoints, And if you let them know what your birthday is and how to reach you, in advance of your birthday, you'll receive a card that entitles you to a free chocolate souffle dessert - which, if you are a chocolate lover, provides an almost impossible to decline incentive to dine there.
I will never go back. Service was downright offensive.
We come here quite often and have never been disappointed. They manage put out a lot of delicious food from that small kitchen. Some of the wait staff need to raise their people skills. Even a smile would be an improvement.
The best place to celebrate Valentine’s Day AND a special anniversary!! The special menu was lovely and appropriate. We loved it all. And, as usual, the staff were professional and caring.
The food and the service at Mangia Mangia are always wonderful--the waitstaff is prompt, thoughtful, indulgent (I spilled a glass of water and they at once moved us to another table). I would go more often if I could afford it.
Took my daughter & 2 of my grandkids to dinner. They loved it as much as I do!!
Plain and simply the best little Italian restaurant in Berkeley!
It was the first time we have dined at the restaurant and were pleasantly surprised. We had a very enjoyable meal. The three of us really loved the main dishes we ordered and all agreed that we should return.
It is in our neighborhood so we will be back. usually love this spot but the food was just so so this time. It is in our neighborhood so we will be back. Skip the lasagna and order another pasta. Good wine list. Lovely owner and great wait staff.
Consistently delicious and very friendly. Wonderfully prepared Italian-inspired dishes, personal atmosphere - and don't miss the chocolate soufflé!
Delicious, every time!
I have recommended Mangia Mangia to many family members and friends. All have been delightfully satisfied.
My wife and I went for Dinner on New Year’s Eve, I was very happy to get a last minute reservation at the time we wanted. Everything was great, the Appetizer, each of our meals, and the Chocolate lava cake for dessert. Also a nice selection of wines.
But there were two things I did not like.
1. Felt a bit rushed by the server, he was nice but was definitely pushing to turn the table ASAP. I get this being New Year’s Eve, probably trying to turn every table at least 3 times, but the restaurant was not full, and no one was waiting for a table when we left.
2. The other thing I did not like and actually made me mad was the pricing. They had a “special” limited menu I believe about 6 (soups, salads, appetizers) and about 7 main entrées. When selecting this place for dinner I looked at their website, I looked at their regular menu, all entrées have a price point of about $18- $24. The reservation confirmation and their website mentioned the “special” menu for New Years, but did not have items listed.
Almost all of the entrees on the special menu had a price point of $33-$35.
I’m not cheap, and don’t mind spending money on a good meal. But I don’t think it’s a good business practice to raise your “special” menu prices so much higher than your typical prices without noting it.
This is an under appreciated gem- wonderful ambiance, tasty first course , fabulous pasta dishes - we had the manicotti ( with chicken and carmelized onions ) the seafood pasta , the spicy Norma and the pasta with Gorgonzola & chard. All were delicious. The chocolate soufflé is rich and dark and the Zabaglione reminded me of Mary’s on Bedford in Greenwich Village in the 70’s. True classics.
As always, a welcoming and warm atmosphere. We were there for my belated birthday and had a memorable meal. Still thinking about my flavorful dish of squid-ink pasta and fresh, perfectly prepared mussels, shrimp and salmon. My husband enjoyed his manicotti as well. The restaurant sent me a greeting card inviting us to enjoy a complimentary glass of champagne and the chocolate souffle, YUM. We will return often, and introduce our friends as well.
The food was good but not very interesting
The food and service are exquisite!!! I’ve been coming for years and not once have I had a bad experience.
Horrible will NEVER go there again
Atmosphere is very dowdy like a mortuary. Staff seem unhappy.
We had bad mussel in seafood dish and we got no compensation at all.
Food is ok except for the bad mussel so how fr
Maybe they aren’t doing well or are burned out.
Simply wonderful and delicious in every way!
MAngia Mangia offers wonderful food, thoughtful and attentive service and very good value for your dollar. The menu is not standard "California-Italian" pastas but has a variety of really imaginative and luscious dishes.
Love this restaurant. Fresh food, made with care to order. Everything was delicious. Wonderful neighborhood, cozy spot. Good service.
Very authentic family-style Italian food. Reliably wonderful over the years.
Nice neighborhood place specializing in excellent Italian food. Creative menu and great selection plus attentive service by the owners and enjoyed open kitchen design. Will be our neighborhood go to place foe excellent italian food at very reasonable prices. Nice quiet room and easy parking.
Wonderful food and ambiance!! The service was excellent and the food was amazing, I am still thinking about it!!
My husband and I went to Mangia Mangia on our first date 10 years ago and we return every birthday and anniversary since. My parents are from Italy and I can tell you, the food is authentic and absolutely delicious. The wait staff are charming and personable. This is one of our favorite spots!
We love this neighbohood restaurant. Soulful comfort food. Owners/Chef take pride in their food. I LOVE the linguine with mushrooms in cream sauce! The chocolate soufflé is a absolute must!!
worst customer service ever and this is the second time I've eaten here. Waiter great, hostess plain mean and rude just like the first time. What's her problem?
great food and service...but a noisy blower over the grill up front was a bit much at times, and it never stopped...still, we'll return!
Never disappoints!! We love everything about this place, from the warm welcome we receive from the owners to the wonderful service, from the creative daily specials menu to the predicably delicious regular dishes, from the tempting presentation to the unforgettable flavors. All aspects of an evening dining here are memorable and demand a repetition. We’ll be back soon, for sure!
I have gone to Mangia Mangia for over 20 years. It's a fine choice for a special one-on-one occasion with one big caveat. You have to go as early as possible since the noise level becomes very unpleasant as the evening goes on. The food is always excellent. The service varies. Still, I keep going back since the overall experience is worth it.
Mangia Mangia feels like an old world Italian restaurant - the food is consistently excellent and the service is with heart and soul.
The food was excellent and the noise level I saw low, although most of the tables were occupied. Very good service and he was knowledgeable about the food, as well as the wine. Open kitchen is fun watch.
great neighborhood italian restaurant. staff is friendly, remembers repeat customers. food is excellent, always well prepared with tasty and interesting menu items.
Wonderful experience. Great food, perfect service, hospitable ambience. This restaurant delivers classically fine dining in a warm, unpretentious setting that delivers timeless high-quality food and service. Unpretentious, yet there are linens on the table and careful attention to the highest-quality ingredients. The watermelon salad we enjoyed tonight was the best thing I’ve eaten in a long time. Portions are ample. If you’re a chocolate lover, do order the chocolate soufflé for dessert and share it with your companion. This restaurant is quiet enough to enjoy an actual extended conversation with your dinner partner. Go here to deepen your friendship, not take a dive into your device.
