Mandolin is a breath of fresh air to the Raleigh dining scene, combining a casual atmosphere with fresh, contemporary, Southern fare. Mandolin uses the highest quality local ingredients to create seasonal menus that resonate with foodies and casual diners, alike. We share our food in a relaxed, cozy atmosphere that replaces the stuffiness of fine-dining with Southern charm. The menu and ambiance reflect the character of Raleigh itself- a blend of rustic and refined, contemporary and traditional, rural and metropolitan. Mandolin, like the City of Oaks, is Southern at its roots, but draws influences from around the world. We love our new home in Hayes Barton, just a stone's throw from Five Points, on the corner of Oberlin and Fairview.

Gorgeous building, lovely interior, really excellent cocktails.

A little too much emphasis by the waiter on their farm-to-table foundation.

Menu great, although it felt it was short one entree from the line-up?

Raw oysters were superb. NC clams unfortunately overly salty from the included sausage.

Pork chop beautifully cooked, but chicken & waffles decidedly disappointing- overcooked hard waffles (kept warm in oven for too long??) and deep fried chicken also overly crunchy. Not sure the foam topping the chicken really did anything for the dish.

A very mixed experience - & not what we expected from their reviews.

Been our go-to place for years. The grass fed and grass FINISHED bone-in prime rib is THE BEST steak in town. Service is excellent (especially Kathy). Atmosphere is chic yet comfortable. Mandolin is definitely a neighborhood gem and deserves more accolades than it gets. It's consistent and perfect every time.

We ordered the hanger steak and chicken and waffles, followed by the chocolate souffle, and all were delicious! Great neighborhood spot for date night or an evening out with friends.

Beautiful restaurant and excellent service. Only complaint was that the oysters on the half shell were very very tiny yet they were $3 each. Not worth it. Chicken and Waffles: chicken and collards were delish but buckwheat waffle, not so much. Spring veggie pasta was good. Drinks were great. We will be back.

Mandolin is my favorite restaurant in Raleigh. They have taken the farm-to-table movement to heart, and I love that their menu changes constantly. I've never gone and eaten the same first or second courses twice. The only repeat item I've had (and will have) time and time again is the Videri Chocolate Souffle. It's worth every bite! The atmosphere is lovely, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and the food is sensational. My most recent visit was on a date before going to the theater, and it was the perfect kick off to a lovely evening. I took my mother to Mandolin for her 70th birthday, and she said she had never had such a fancy birthday dinner. Mandolin is perfect for any occasion. You'd be hard-pressed to find better!

My server Kevin was great as was the food. I was dining alone (which is not my favorite thing to do) and no one made me feel weird about it. I loved the menu and local sourcing. I had the special pork chop and the caramel cake which was to die for. I would highly recommend .

Quaint restaurant in Raleigh suburb. Parking spaces limited. Sat us quickly. Busy crowd after church but waitress did very well keeping our waters/coffee filled.

I got the shrimp and grits. Very flavorful with the andouille sausage. Size 20-22 shrimp, not the largest for this dish but was fresh and nicely seasoned. Biscuits were good, especially with the apple butter.

Overall very good experience. Will return if in the area.

A very cozy and romantic atmosphere! The menu was a bit smaller than I would have expected but it seemed like everything they made was their specialty. Would have loved a vegetarian appetizer option. The soufflé was amazing!

My husband and I had friends visiting from out of town. This was our first time at Mandolin. I was glad I made a reservation @ 6:30 as it was a Friday evening- filled up by 8. We had a nice table by the window. We were greeted quickly by our server. Fabulous rum cocktail and wine came promptly as did our appetizers. Meals were served together and hot. Fish was excellent. Dessert seemed to take some time. There was a good pace to the evening; never felt rushed.I would have liked a gluten free option and a few more healthy options, but overall nice place!

Very romantic enjoyable atmosphere for couples, family and special occasions. Very fresh oysters on the half shell. A limited menu of fresh farm raised food only! Very good desserts to select from. Highly suggest the trio of sorbet or the chocolate souffle. Nice for business meetings, romantic dining and special family gathering. ENJOY!

The chef is a master and the presentation was artful. The first course of shrooms were divine. My duck was tender and tasty and my date enjoyed the flounder. Our waitress was fun, informative and timely. Although the room filled in around us we never felt rushed. We finished just before a group of loud ladies with Fran Drescher and Roseanne voices spoiled the ambiance. The assist with wine selection and the comped birthday dessert were greatly appreciated.

My husband and I had dinner here before attending a show at the Duke Energy Performing Arts Center. We were greated as soon as we walked in the door and the outstanding service continued from there. We started with oysters and they served the most delicious corn bread muffins as bread option. We shared a 40 oz ribeye that was cooked to perfection and the hubby had enough left overs for lunch the next day. The service was excellent as well as prompt so we made it to the theater in plenty of time to get to our seats before the show began. We will definitely be dining at Mandolin again.

I had high expectations for our first visit, after reading reviews here and on yelp. But our experience was only fair. The first impression was disappointing, as we entered the reception area full of over-spilling guests occupying the bar area. The noise was so loud we could barely hear the hostess. Then, she tried to direct us to the seating that was nearest the din...I thought there might be background music, but only every now and then could beats peek through the roar. As I had specified in our reservation that it was a special occasion (birthday) no special acknowledgement was made in it's regard. We came in for a light meal and dessert to celebrate, but it seemed like our presence was unappealing. Right from the start, the service was so quick, that a fork was barely on the table when empty plates, low water glasses, etc were attended too. We were out the door in less than an hour! We felt "pushed"out the door, considering there were plenty of empty tables and no one waiting to be seated.
A shame, since the food was excellent. I have no desire to return and will recommend only with hesitation.

Our perfect meal started with the charcuterie platter, a must if you have not had it and more than enough for the 3 of us to share, not to mention a bargain at 15.00. We enjoyed the creative and sophisticated cocktails offered with our first course. The main courses we ordered were tasty and generous and perfectly matched by the various wines offered by the glass. This is turning into one of our favorite restaurants!

We had the opportunity to try Mandolin following the NC Bach Festival Youth Concert at a nearby church. Mandolin was right around the corner! The waitstaff treated this Mom and her two teenage sons like gold! We had the chicken and waffles, the braised pork shank and the steak. All fabulous! The chocolate soufflé and caramel cake were outstanding, as was my personal pot of coffee. Thank you so much for welcoming us and making us feel cared for, celebrated and at home. My husband wasn’t able to join us at the last minute, and after hearing about our experience wants to return to eat soon! What a great restaurant!!
