Mandolin is a breath of fresh air to the Raleigh dining scene, combining a casual atmosphere with fresh, contemporary, Southern fare. Mandolin uses the highest quality local ingredients to create seasonal menus that resonate with foodies and casual diners, alike. We share our food in a relaxed, cozy atmosphere that replaces the stuffiness of fine-dining with Southern charm. The menu and ambiance reflect the character of Raleigh itself- a blend of rustic and refined, contemporary and traditional, rural and metropolitan. Mandolin, like the City of Oaks, is Southern at its roots, but draws influences from around the world. We love our new home in Hayes Barton, just a stone's throw from Five Points, on the corner of Oberlin and Fairview.

Mandolin Ratings and Reviews
Great place to meet two others for a casual business dinner. I really enjoyed the creative and unique menu and the sheepshead I had was amazing! I also like the cocktail I ordered. My guests had chicken & waffles (finished it all), I tried a taste and it was great. My other guest had the mushroom entrée and cleaned their plate. Nice atmosphere and unique style. Bathroom was very clean, always a plus!
This was birthday celebration for my sister. Started with the eggplant soup which had a smokiness and was delicious. For dinner both of us decided to try their Chicken and Waffles which I had not tried in in previous visits. Best fried chicken I had in a long time. The waiter said it is the brining. Will definitely order this again. For dessert, tried the sorbet trio - OMG the Muscadine was by far my favorite! The apple and lime were excellent too. If you haven't tried Mandolin, you should go soon.
The service was outstanding. We had a lovely experience in the bar and in the dining room. The only reason I gave 4 stars for food was my choice in main course. While it was probably executed beautifully, I wish I would have ordered something else as the fish dish was too fishy and a touch too salty for me. My mom had the steak and it was absolutely delicious. Wine suggestions by our server were perfect. Desert was phenomenal! Their caramel cake just can’t be beat. Again, the service and ambiance was wonderful. Mandolin is one of our favorite places.
This was my second visit to Mandolin and even better than the first! Food is excellent. I had the hangar steak and panzanella salad, both were expertly prepared and delicious. If the caramel cake with buttermilk ice cream is on the menu, be sure to have it. We ordered one for the table and my husband ended up ordering a 2nd slice for himself! It was that good. The chocolate souffle is also extraordinary. The service is expert, accommodating, and friendly. We had different waiters on both occasions and they both knew the menu well. We'll definitely be going back!
Enjoyed a wonderful brunch. Service was professional and friendly. Decor is inviting and comfortable. Nice bar area plus outside seating -weather permitting. Menu had a very nice selection of brunch and lunch dishes that were both visually appealing and delicious. Would defintaly return.
My girlfriend and I recently had dinner and it was absolutely amazing! From the service down to drink suggestions and food itself. The 40 plus ounce steak special is my favorite thing ever, really knock it out of the park with it. Will definitely be back and love the fact it’s right down walking distance in the neighborhood. Keep it up Mandolin!
We loved our wonderful meal at Mandolin. The sweet breads were out of this world and the squash - fabulous! Everyone enjoyed their entrées which included the pork tenderloin, chicken & waffles and the scallops.
And the service is always top notch!
We will be back again soon. It’s one of our local favorites !!
The food was excellent both in preparation and presentation. I've eaten here often since it first opened and it's a favorite spot for dining on any occasion. This night I had the Tomato salad, followed by Hanger Steak and dessert was coffee with their wonderful Caramel Cake. My mates had the Panzanella salad, the leg of chicken and another, the scallops, followed by the Videiri Chocolate Soufflé. Kathy served us and she was the perfect person to guide and take care of us as it was an excellent night out.
As is the case with too many restaurants, the restaurant's ambient noise level became bothersome as the night and numbers of Mandolin guests progressed. Better noise dampening would be welcomed
Meals at Mandolin are always perfect. We've never had a bad entrée, and the sides are always inventive and perfectly paired with the meal. We only have one complaint… the noise level. Whether there's 10 people or 50 in the restaurant, it seems to be so loud much of the time that it detracts from an otherwise lovely evening out.
Mandolin is one of our favorite Raleigh restaurants. They were really hitting on all cylinders at our most recent dinner. Superb service, nice wine list, usual restrained ambience. All dishes were excellent. I can particularly recommend the chicken and waffles, one of their staples, but the red drum was also excellent. Oysters were fresh and nicely saline, and the soufflé is memorably delicious. Very highly recommended!
Thank you, Open Table, for recommending Mandolin. We liked it very much and will go there again. Our waiter was a lovely young man who took good care of us and engaged in just the right amount of conversation. He was ideal. We knew the chef by reputation and were not disappointed.
It was a very long wait to order. Another very long wait between the appetizers and the main course. My amberjack was cooked well done. While I didn't specify medium rare, I wasn't asked either. I can't imagine people wanting fish cooked hard and dry like that. The waiter encouraged my guest to get the 40 ounce ribeye. My guest was an international traveler who didn't have a clue what 40 ounces was. She was also a petite person. I tried to explain but the waiter sold it. I don't remember his name, he was a young male. My guest's partner cancelled his main course as he knew he'd need to help with the 40 ounce ribeye and so he had it split. Even after this she was shocked to see the 40 ounce steak come out, in two pieces. The waiter gave the half with the bone in it to the guy and so my female guest was terribly embarrassed to leave 1/2 of her portion on the plate as we left. It was a beautiful place and a really disappointing experience actually.
Mandolin is a "go to" place for us for special occasions, because the cocktails, food, and service are always excellent. Friday night was no exception. After a prolonged diet, we earned a "cheat night". We chose Mandolin, as we have for special occasions. Going in with our usual high expectations, we weren't disappointed. (We never have been disappointed.) There is always a great selection and variety. The food/ingredients are fresh. And they rotate the cocktail as well as the food menu, so as to keep the availability of new and tasty options.
Second time my wife and I have been. Both times were great overall experience. Great staff, everyone very nice and good has great. Like the fact that was not noisy so wife and I could enjoy our conversation. Would recommend for most any occasion. We just like it for date night.
