Pleasant ambience, cocktails were generously sized and well prepared, food itself was fairly ordinary and some service mishaps occurred. Overall, it's suitable for nice-casual dining in the neighborhood (with item prices ranging moderate to high), but not as a special occasion destination citywide.
reservations are a good idea.....service is polite & friendly.....when I'm in Seattle eating here is a MUST!!!.......best veal scallopini I've ever had.....pizza is good too!!!.....
The food was not as good as we have had in the past. The clams had lots of sand in it and the bolognese was not very flavorful. The wait staff was nice but I am not sure it will be our go to restaurant any longer for special occasions.
Service from host to server was fabulous. Thanks Sean! Food, not so great. Kale in the ravioli was not cooked enough, it was like eating a kale ricotta salad in a ravioli pocket. Fish (once again this happened in another fish dish) wasn’t salted enough before being battered. You can salt meat or fish after their cooked, but then the flesh is t I fused with the salt, it just sits on top. Sean was great in helping me find a good red wine by the glass. Olive oil cake and pistachio ice cream wasn’t as good as the last time I had it there. We always come back because something is good. We enjoyed our beet salads, good portion and good ratio of nuts, cheese, greens to beets, dressing was also just right. There’s always something good at Mamma Melina’s, yet it seems there’s always something a little not quite right. I’ll try the ravioli again (not the kale ricotta) because the last time I had it (different filling), it was yum-o!
I have always liked MM as it provides an excellent setting for conducting business, both at lunch and dinner; servers are sensitive to why you are eating there and are very responsive and unobtrusive. The food is very good and prices are not over the top. Business, special events, or just for a break in home cooking, it is a very attractive venue.
Good food, service and parking. The sound level is rather high to have conversations.
Mama Melina always satisfy with excellent food, great service and wonderful ambiance. I and my friends have visited the restaurant many times. Try it you’ll like it.
The front of house waiter (or perhaps manager?) never acknowledged my presence when I came to meet my husband who had already been seated. I had even said “hello” to the man who was at the front waiting area and he totally ignored me so I said “Ok, I’ll seat myself!” Our server was very good and extremely attentive. We noticed that there was more than one server, bartender and manager fussing over one table which of course takes away from the adjacent tables waiting for attention. We were lucky our server was not part of that doting group. My husband had ordered a martini while waiting for me, a martini “wet”. The bartender came to my husband asking him “ so you say you want a wet martini, do you KNOW what that means?” Good gosh. My husband was probably 15 years older him and told him “ yes, of course. Why?” The bartender asked him “well, how much vermouth do you really want?” So my husband proceeded to oblige this incessant questioning, not really believing he was having this interchange to begging with.. Alas, it was all figured out. Phew!
Then, the meal. My husbands meal was good, a special. I typically like to order a Bolognese to see how well the pasta is made. Part of my pasta was in a huge unbreakable rubberized clump. Almost like what store bought pasta does if you “nuke” it. I ate mostly around the clump & the flavor was just OK. Although, I didn’t love it, I did eat some so I could give my body some sustenance prior to the concert we were headed to afterwards. Instead of asking me what was wrong with my food, the sever asked if I wanted a box, and I said “no, thank you” and she did seem shocked. I left the clump hoping they’d see with their own eyes why... because if you can’t catch that, you shouldn’t be running the food to the customer.... and I’ll defend the server here because her food was expedited by other people. Overall, the experience was OK. I used to frequent Mamma Melina before they changed locations & we miss that experience. 😏
Excellent food and service.
Quality of food and service is consistent.
It was Valentine's day and the food on the menu was spectacular. The food was delicious and I'm looking forward to visiting this fine dining establishment again. The dessert menu needs more tantalizing treats added but I was too full to eat more anyway, although there is always more room for delicious deserts right. I still give this restaurant an A+ in my book.
Family owned with excellent food. Waiter very helpful with wine pairing.
I booked a dinner for Valentine via Google Map and got confirmed pretty soon. No wait time, everything went smoothly. And the food is great, environment is romantic. Will come again.
We love this restaurant. The food is great and so is the service. Lots of hard surfaces so it can be noisy.
Great food, great service (thank you, Michael), good wine selection...what more can you want? Well...without asking, Michael our server, noticed a card on the table and brought our daughter a birthday tiramisu - that's incredible service and care. Thank you, MIchael and all!
excellent! We went on Saturday for lunch. Good good and the lunch special is great.
I've been twice recently but I doubt I'll voluntarily go again. It's far too noisy,
Mamma Melina is a very nice neighborhood restaurant serving authentic Italian food. I loved the Vitello ai funghi selvatici. The staff is friendly and accommodating, prices are reasonable, and also very important – convenient parking.
Overall, a good dining experience, good food, excellent service, though a little loud for conversation and packed a bit tightly. Would recommend though.
The GF noodles were soooo good and also the Chilean sea bass! Wonderful atmosphere and service. I think it’d be cool to have live music there - it would add even more to a great dining experience. Just my opinion :)
Staff was personable and knowledgeable.
Food was delicious, especially my spaghetti with grilled lobster and clams. The tomato sauce was one of the best I’ve had. Service was wonderful.
We’ve come to Mama Melina’s for many years and this was, by far, our worst experience. We went for our 26th Wedding Anniversary and we were really hoping for a nicer experience. Yes it was busy and yes it was very loud, but that was to be expected on a Friday night. We were seated within 10 minutes of our reservation time, so that was well within reason. Our waiter was another story. We came across as very rushed and not interested. He rolled his eyes when my wife asked whether they had any Pinot Grigio, didn’t say a word, walked away and just showed up with a glass of wine. We had barely sat down for 5 minutes and he was back wanting to take our order. We felt very rushed. When the waiter took our order he made no effort to ask whether we wanted any appetizers or anything else. I had a swordfish dish, which wasn’t bad, although the potatoes were undercooked and still hard in the middle. My wife ordered a ravioli dish that came with 7 ravioli. They were supposed to have kale and caramelized onions in them, however they tasted like plain ricotta cheese ravioli that you could find at any grocery store. The dish came with little to no sauce, so by the time my wife got to the 4th ravioli the sauce was all gone. She left the rest of the dish uneaten because it simply wasn’t very good. We each had a dessert and espresso, which was ok. Sadly, the espresso was about the best item of the evening. There was absolutely no attempt by the restaurant or waiter to congratulate us for our anniversary even though I made this very clear in our reservations. Every restaurant we have been to in the past has always acknowledged our special occasion. The overall price was very reasonable, but the food and rude waiter really dampened our special evening. It might be a while before we give Mama Melina another try, but for now we are extremely disappointed. This was a very forgettable dining experience. What a shame!
Too noisy. Food over cooked. Server was great. Overpriced for quality and ambience.
Had a great birthday dinner here. The food was excellent as were the drinks if a bit pricey. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. There is always something interesting on the menu.
The restaurant was full of happy family celebrations, couples, young and seniors ( like us) upbeat bar, phenomenal wait staff who make you feel as though you are their only table, reasonable prices , great food, good parking - we love Mama Melina’s.
A favorite restaurant that is in our neighborhood. We love dining here and think that the happy hour is a real treat.
always great. authentic menu, well prepared. Good service, except on this occasion, the entree was brought to the table before we were halfway through the appetizers.
Server was great atmosphere was great a bit pricy
Burrata and speck was amazing, would go back just for that! Pasta with smoked salmon and crab and leeks was delicious too. Great meal all around!
Went here before theater. It is a hopping place and we wouldn’t have been able to get a table without a reservation. Service was attentive and food was excellent. There is some parking behind restaurant but if you’re driving leave some time to find a spot.
The service was 5 star. The staff were very attentive and we wanted for nothing. The food was just ok, nothing special about this Italian fare. The bread service was very good and wine the selection was also outstanding. Just wish the food lived up to the service and wine selection.
Hadn’t been to Momma Melina in some time and it was nice to reacquaint ourselves with the great food, excellent service. (We used to go to Momma Melina when they were near the 7 Gables theater).
We were a party of 4 and everyone enjoyed their meals. Linguini with salmon, gnocchi, other dishes were all superb. Waitress we had was just the right amount of service; not too much and not too little.
We had a booth which helped with deadening sound. Otherwise, tables in main areas are a bit noisy. We are already looking forward to our next visit!
P.S. For those who don’t mind a short walk, the restaurant is very close to University Village.
My lunchdate and I were barely half way through our meal when a young lady came by to ask if we wanted boxes. She returned again 10 min later, then our server asked the same. My fiend finished her salad, I hadn’t finished my eggplant parmigiana (which was very skimpy), but by that time we were tired of feeling like they were rushing us (mind you, we met on a Wednesday at Noon, and the place wasn’t even half full) so I asked for my half eaten meal to be boxed up so I could finish the rest in peace at home.
Better service and food at Olive Garden(!!!)
Fantastic experience from service to food! Great lunch combo deal, as well.
Our favorite place overall and in the neighborhood. Great wait staff, great food and wine list.
My entree was brought out before i even finished my salad. As soon as we finished our entree the server brought the bill. Then he interrupted us to ask if he could close us out because he needed the table. There were plenty of open tables throughout the restaurant. It was an experience i would not go back for.
The one disappointing part of our experience was having three servers, all in the space of just a few minutes, ask if they could clear some of the plates while some in our party were still eating.
High noise level is my only wish for improvement - hard to carry on conversation at times.
Food, service, and ambiance - other than noise - very good.
This is a great go-to place when you want great food, great service and a great atmosphere. Always consistent. You can count on never being disappointed.
