Great birthday celebration with family.
Delicious food and excellent service.
Incredible food and service. The staff is on top of it, from the bussers to the waiters/waitresses. The food is delicious and never disappoints.
During Covid, Mama's offered a 3-course meal for a really good price - I think around $20. It was really great for those of us without huge appetites as the serving were smaller compared to the a la carte menu. The carbonara IS delicious, but other things can be up or down in quality. Sometimes the Caesar Salad is way over dressed and the bread knots can be over-baked. We only have lunch outside as the inside of the restaurant can be hot and crowded.
I didn’t love the food. It was okay at best. Nice location. Nothing to complain about except there is better food elsewhere
Disappointing. While the past was good, service was extremely slow-,though our bus boy was pretty awesome. Atmosphere was mediocre. With all of the great Italian restaurants in SLO, this one needs to up its game’
Went here to celebrate a birthday. Wanted some real Italian pasta and a nice atmosphere. The food was great and I was able get my favorite pasta dish as a side to my main course. Our server was very attentive and even added a special birthday wish to my dessert. Wasn’t sure what to expect based on the name of the place, but it is truly a fine dining Italian restaurant.
It was our 28th anniversary and we wanted to try a new place. It was somewhat disappointing.
The food was good but not great. Nothing really stood out - my husband even ordered the meatballs - thinking they must be their speciality. But very very average. Several other Italian restaurants in Slo are above and beyond Mamas Meatball. We were overcharged $20 on our bottle of wine - the server adjusted the price but stated “ it really is $20 more than what the menu states, but I will honor the menu price anyway”. Lol I didn’t quite understand that logic. We also asked if we could take the bread home with us and our server charged us an additional $4 for the bread. Really not a good first impression at all.
In addition, it was Very crowded with tables very close together. No open windows or doors for ventilation. Actually very hot and packed with people. Definitely not set up for Covid protocols.
First visit and Hlhad spaghetti and meatballs as a yard stick meal. Very good. A thick rich sauce and great meatballs. Will return.
The beet salad is amazing. Carbonara is very classic and hard to resist. Portions are huge!
Food is consistently good over multiple visits. Staff is courteous and responsive.
We sat outside in the court yard across from the ice cream shop. The ambiance was lost with the kids running around and through our table. However, the environment itself was great and the food was incredible!
Great good and lovely ambiance. We sat outside and had a heat lamp near us and were comfortable.
Such good food and service!! The wait staff was very friendly and the food was delicious.
Arrived on time for reservation. Was going to have a glass of wine while waiting for an outdoor table, but that didn't happen as nobody despite efforts to flag a waiter. I know restaurants are struggling with getting staff, but still... Service was mediocre. Didn't pour wine, didn't refresh empty water glasses, and forgot grated parmesean...didn't ask if we wanted another round of drinks...food was yummy.
We love this restaurant. We went there to celebrate a birthday. They really know how to prepare delicious seafood entrees. I had the salmon with capers and my husband had the sea bass special with fresh tomatoes and mozzarella. Both were excellent. We sat outside and thoroughly enjoyed it as well.
Very enjoyable dinner - good food and service and wine!
Always the best choice in town for Italian food and feel! Our meal:
Starter: Fried Calamari & Garlic Knots
Entree's: Spaghetti Carbonara with Grilled Chicken, Half Rack Lamb with roasted vegetables
Dessert: Creme Brulee
Everything was fantastic as always.
Other favorites: Gnocchi de Zucca, Pesto Chicken Lasagna, Lasagna Bolognese
This was our first visit to this restaurant. We were pleasantly greeted and given our choice of indoor or outdoor dining. We chose indoor dining. Our server provided excellent service and made sure we had everything we needed. We shared a soup which was very good. My husband had the risotto and added meatballs. I had the grilled chicken breast with eggplant and roasted peppers. Both dishes were excellent and very well prepared. The grilled chicken dish came with a lot of different veggies all well-seasoned and tasty. I would defnintley return to this restaurant.
The best meatballs in town!!! The food was great and the service was even better!!! We will definitely go back.
As always the food read excellent. Sadly, the service was very slow. Like other small businesses, finding staff is a challenge. I think they did the best they could on service. But, it was slow.
Everything on the menu is worth the price. I would recommend to family and friends.
Great restaurant! We have been here several times and food is always great. My kids also enjoy it! Love to see Mama Maria working and putting so much love into restaurant.
Server use the burner on our creme brulee at the table on request. It was awesome!
What a wonderful restaurant to eat at. The food (including gluten free), service and staff were top notch. We got to meet mama and her son, which highlighted our superb lunch. Also, the ambience was unforgettable.
Great food and service, and price point! Looking forward to returning,
Absolutely one of our favorite restaurants on the entire central coast. I love the option of indoor or outdoor dining and the staff and service is always top notch. And the food… To die for.
We have been going to Mama’s Meatball for many years, but this visit did not live up to our expectations. My husband’s lasagne was wonderful, but my veal with mushrooms had thick fried batter that overpowered the flavor of the meat. The service was just OK. I had always ordered a glass of moscato, but they no longer carried it. Sadly, manager/server, Patrick, is no longer there. We will not be returning when we are visiting San Luis Obispo in the future.
7 of us descended on Mama's last night and one was a Vegan...Poor Violet had to take care of us...She was amazing!
Turns out that for about 4 years she was also Vegan. Thus, she was able to help our Vegan navigate the wonderful Mama's menu items. I would go into everything that we all ate, but suffice it to say that everything was wonderful (I rarely say that about a restaurant).
We will be going back to Mama's in the near future.
Very pleasant little town’s romantic corner . The penne is one of the very best! Meatball spaghettis also the best of its kind! Pizza is special - but not my kind, dry without any cheese or tomato sauce thus very dry.
Started off poorly. With a “birthday” reservation, we were seated at a tiny bistro table outside even though 2 regular tables with comfortable seating were empty. Admittedly they were 4 tops. A few minutes later, a party of 2 was seated at the table we were denied. Our server was helpful , juggling dishes and wine glasses to accommodate our small table. Our meal was mildly seasoned, but good. We were overcharged for wine by $2/glass. After some discussion and our pointing out the price on the menu, our bill was corrected. Absolutely no acknowledgement of the birthday. Advice if you wish to try this: be very specific what table you want before you get there. Check your bill carefully. Don’t expect an acknowledgment if you are celebrating a special occasion.
Mama's Meatball has everything you want for a great dining experience. Excellent food, great ambiance and very friendly staff. The kids loved it too. Our waitress Violet was beyond exceptional. She was happy, engaging and super accommodating to our off the menu request :) Ordering through OpenTable was easy peasy. If your in SLO I would highly recommend Mama's Meatball... remember to make your reservation ahead of time...they book up quickly:)
Our waiter looked into whether the grilled Salmon could be made free of garlic.
The answer was yes. At many Italian restaurants this question would be laughed at.
Kudos to Our waiter for doing this. And the salmon was free of garlic.
The best meatballs with bolognese!
Excellent service, huge portions, great value. They were out of a lot of the wines on the menu which was disappointing but we will definitely still come back.
We had reservations, and I want to give them the benefit of the doubtk. It may not have necessarily been their fault, but their service was very slow. I don't know if they got slammed all at once or what happened. Regardless, we were sat at a tiny table outside (which was dirty and people kept using the space between the tables as a walk way). We asked for a heater (because it was getting chilly outside) and it was provided to two other tables...don't know what that was all about). Our server brought us the wrong appetizer and no plates to eat from (but didn't charge us for it once we let him know it was the wrong item). He was very nice and extremely courteous, but the culmination of everything was a bummer for us. THE FOOD, however, WAS AMAZING!!! SO GOOD! My husband liked his pizza, but the pasta and meatballs were incredible. They melt in your mouth. Since we didn't have to pay for our appetizer, and we only drank water, our meal was under $30.00. I would have paid double for those meatballs. I'd like to go back there to give their service a second chance, plus the food was absolutely worth it. Simply based on their food and price...I would definitely recommend this restaurant to a friend (with a lot of patience...just in case).
Excellent pasta, Delicious calamari Big portions of food
We were seated outside as requested in a nice location that afforded views of other diners and people in the "plaza". Service was excellent - provided by a veteran server with real professionalism. My dining partner spotted one of the owners in the crowd, and he came over to visit with us for a bit. This is a family-owned and run business, and everyone is friendly and gracious. The appetizer was the calamari fritti, and it was ample, tender, crunchy and delicious. My risotto was also excellent with spinach and porcini mushrooms. I had brought an 11 year old Italian wine, and the server was able to get it open without undue drama. All in all an excellent experience.
Nice space in the Creamery. Service was very good. The servers and kind and attentive. The house red blend was surprisingly tasty. The salad was fresh and lightly dressed to my liking. The bread knots are scrumptious. I tried the Marlin special because I'd never had it before. It was well prepared. Though I'm not sure I would try Marlin again, props to them for doing something unusual.
Excellent food. Everyone had something different and it was all Excellent.
Nice atmosphere and small but decent wine list. Do not leave without having the gelato - outstanding.
