Come join us in the Creamery in downtown San Luis Obispo and enjoy our authentic Italian cooking featuring housemade pastas, pizzas, breads, and desserts.
We totally enjoyed the Thanksgiving menu, ambience and service. Mama’s Meatball kept in touch prior with handy reminders, providing peace of mind for the event organizer (me). Our window table was waiting and all six of us had a chance to relax and enjoy a special time together. This was our second time here, and we will keep coming back.
One of my most favorite Italian restaurants on the central coast, we lived in Italy for 4 years and the food is just like you are in Italy. Always recommended to all of my friends looking for great food when they are in SLO.
Best restaurant meal I've had in a long time.Had the braised lamb shank.
Delicious food as usual. Great service too!
Treating our granddaughter and friend, students at Cal Poly, to a delicious dinner out!
We decided last minute to go there and was able to get a reservation. I thought it was since it was a Sunday night. We got there and walk-ins were told it would be a 40 min wait. The waiter was very nice and attentive. Food didn't take too long. It was delicious! Must come back forthe cheesecake.
The service was wonderful (thanks Julia) and the food was unforgettably delicious — Mama’s from scratch sauces, pasta, desserts are absolutely delectable!
We've been coming to Mama's for a few years now and always enjoy our meals here. The food is always tasty and well prepared and the offerings are about the right variety. The service is always excellent.
We loved the meatballs in marinara and the caprese was a good size to share. We really enjoyed it.
YES. I HAVE ALREADY RECOMMENDED MAMA’S MEATBALLS TO OTHER CALPOLY FRIENDS
Od course Nico made me an excellent spaghetti and meatballs and she had a nice chicken dish.
We’ve eaten here several times over the past few years, and the food is typically very good , but the service has consistently slowed. Tonight the experience was awful.
It took over an hour to receive our food after placing the order. Once my salmon piccata arrived, I tried to take a bite with my fork, and I couldn’t, which I thought was strange. I then tried with a knife and still couldn’t, at which point I realized that the salmon was raw half way through the filet.
After waiting as long as we did for our food, this was extremely disappointing. I raised the concern to the waiter, and he said he would take the plate to the chef. He brought the plate back after several minutes, and the salmon appeared to now be cooked through. However, after taking a few bites, the salmon was tough and chewy (I assume they finished cooking it in the microwave) and the side dishes were now cold.
I raised this again to the waiter , at which point he implied there was nothing he could personally do, but would talk to the chef as he is also the owner. The waiter came back and said they would take the salmon off the bill as I wasn’t able to eat it (not because they made 2 awful preparations ).
Seeing how this ruined the experience for the table, he offered a free dessert, but then further excused the situation by stating how busy they were and how the chef was training someone new. We declined the dessert, as after being there now for over 90 minutes, having a terrible experience, we just wanted to leave.
While they technically did the right thing by adjusting the bill, offering a dessert, etc. it felt forced and not sincere. We won’t be coming back...
The food was prepared well, but it was difficult to get our waiter to take our order. After someone else took our order, a dish came that violated our dietary restrictions. The waiter was more than accommodating and rushed a replacement dish to the table. Kudos for rectifying the issue quickly. Mistakes happen, but it's more important how the waiter provides a solution.
Food took forever to arrive even though few people in the restaurant. Pretty expensive for a so so plate of pasta.
I found this restrauant on Open Table.
My wife and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary.
Upon arrival we were seated immediately. The server was helpful and made us feel
like we had been regular customers. He was very familiar with the menu and helped us make a selection.
The food arrived warm and was wonderful. The meatballs lived up to what we expected. We will return on our next visit to San Luis Obispo.
Great service! Homemade Caesar salad dressing made for you, tossed with fresh salad ingredients right at the table. Warm bowl of garlic knots while you wait!
We have been regularly eating at Mama’s for the last seven years.
Never disappointed! Great service and food.
Always very good. We really like this restaurant and the food is excellent as well as the service. Wine list a little skimpy.
Overall great experience. Wonderful service and delicious food! This will quickly become a favorite when visiting our son in college.
Everything was delicious. My only complaint and it really isn't one...... The salmon was small, ordered MR, I received it M. It was still good.
my favorite dinner place in san luis obispo, excellent food and service
Ordered the special of the day - beef short ribs stuffed in a large tortellinni-like pasta with a red wine type of sauce - it was excellent! My daughter & I shared a great salad, and she loved the garlic knots. When she asked to take what remained, she was brought a fresh bag to take home.
Goodbye to college kid
Very good meatballs and pear salad. Excellent service!
Food was delicious. Our waiter, Ray, was happy to answer all questions and explain different specialties to us. One of us, the carnivore, happily gnawed away on his lamb bone and the other of us had a simpler and equally satisfying meal. The service was prompt. We will come back when we again visit San Luis Obispo.
Delicious food and great service!
Poor service, even with a full staff. Restaurant was not crowded for a weekend dining.
We sent back the salmon picatta that was over cooked, it was cooked skin side down which was burned and was accompanied with charred potatoes.
Margarita Pizza was okay.
The only item worth mentioning is the meatball appetizer. Pricey for 2 small meatballs.
The poor service added insult to injury. We finished the pizza, paid the bill and ate somewhere else.
We love this place. The food is always amazing and the decor is fabulous. It's definitely on the 'must visit' list when we have out of town guests.
This is my favorite Italian restaurant, anywhere.
It's such a pleasure having access to this level of quality food prepared by the owner/chef in our small town. The wait staff is knowledgeable, vibrant and attentive. Nicola, came out from the kitchen and spoke to us at our table. He's opened a new Peruvian restaurant next door! Our next date night stop...
We love this restaurant and have been there several times. It's always first rate.
Been here several times now and haven't been disappointed yet. 3 times for lunch and twice for dinner. Had a party of 7 and the food arrived at the correct intervals, salad, mains, dessert all came promptly, without being rushed. Travis, our server is always great, and remembers us since the first time.
Excellent. Great A ++++. Traditional Italian. Chick Parmesan was great. Love it. Highly tevommend
We have eaten at Mama's Meatball as a couple and brought friends with us this time. Service was good, food was good and we were there early so the atmosphere was good. It has a lot of hard surfaces so it can get noisy. Overall it was a good experience and we will return.
Had a great family meal.
The ravioli was cooked too long - should have been al dente, and it was smothered in too much sauce.
Everything was wonderful.!
Low key, good place for conversation. Pizza was thin crust, asked for more sauce... was tasty. Meatballs and spaghetti was flavorful. We were visiting and recommended by locals. Very good.
Loved the pesto lasagna. I do miss the white linens that added to the ambience. Very attentive and polite server.
Chicken parm was ok. It's a solid dish, but nothing memorable. The quality of their dishes vary as I've had better dishes there in the past. They no longer bring the bread knots with water; instead, they bring them with your entree. Bummer if you are hungry. The profiterols were chewy, not light and fluffy. Wine selection is just so - so and over priced like everywhere else. Solid if unspectacular restaurant.
Was seated immediately, food brought to table within 15 minutes and service was phenomenal. Highly recommend for date nights or special event. Server for us was Ray.
