MAMA's Kitchen is located on level 1 of Hollywood's infamous MAMA Shelter. MAMA's Kitchen showcases a vast collection of food, curated with love by Chef Jonathan Kim. Enjoy our seasonal favorites like hamachi crudo or half chicken paired with a glass of wine from our sommelier's wine list.

We accept reservations during dinner and brunch services for parties of up to 8 through OpenTable. Inquiries of groups over 8, please email veda.jones@mamashelter.com. Walk-in's welcome during all services.

    UNSAFE! You could get assulted onthe way to the bathroom by their two bit “Super Bad” style mall cop security posers. We won’t make the mistake of dining here again and we advise that you don’t either, it’s an extraordinarily low class establishment. The service and food were average at best. The atmosphere is one step up from a college bar hang out including the foosball table, the only thing missing was a sticky floor. They have also employed low class, uneducated, degenerate security guards who assault patrons (specifically little Jason). The manager, Phil is a low rent, inappropriately dressed disgrace. I legitimately thought he was a drunkard who wandered in off of the street. However, after being assaulted while looking for the restroom, he thought it was funny, laughed and immediately began covering up the assault shouting “there was no assault”. He was acting like a guy who gets sued a lot, I wouldn’t be surprised if that were factual. The place is a dangerous pig sty. As we left, no point in arguing with minions, we will take this up with people far above his pay scale, he actually stood around laughing with the staff as we observed through the window. This is obviously going to be escalated by us as a matter of public safety. As far as the food goes, they had no gluten free/dairy free desserts and the food was fine, barely warm and pedestrian. The short rib was okay, we weren’t expecting it to be our typical Michelin rated experience but we certainly weren’t expecting the disaster that is Mama’s Kitchen. One final note, in an effort to silence us (typical of guilty people) they actually canceled our reservation in hopes that we wouldn’t contest it so that we couldn’t tell the truth in a public review. We let Open Table know right away what happened and they fixed it. Thank you for your honesty Open Table, now can we have a dislike button for restaurants we will never visit again so that we don’t even have to see them in our feed? Thanks and blessings!

    When we walked in for a reservation of party of 10, the restaurant was empty and they were not ready to serve us. Prior to our way there we called 10+ times to let them know we would be late, and no answer. When we walked in they still will not ready for us and when we sat down we were rushed to eat, saying 40 min till close yet we paid for 90 min of bottomless mimosas. The food was beyond average and not worth the trouble we went through to get there. Overall, terrible experience and the staff was rude. Told my friend she couldn’t share her mimosa because it’s one per person but yet nobody was in the restaurant and having a sup shouldn’t matter. The customer service is fake and forced And not not enjoyable. Never coming back again!!!!!!!!!

    Lovely ambiance and friendly staff. We had pre-fix Thanksgiving dinner: Appetizer salad was basic and pork was too salty; entrees were flavorful but came out cold. Service was friendly but inattentive. We were considering revisiting on a different day to give their regular dinner menu a try, but the check arrived with 18% service charge included for a party of 2 and additional 3% health charge, so it's a pass. Pay your employees healthcare and leave the gratuity up to customers.

    Where do I start… I was given a gross dirty glass for water when seated. A sure fire health hazard. I ordered a drink and there was something floating in it. They replaced it but it shouldn’t have been there. Our original server left and the new server just showed up without introducing himself. I had to ask who he was and where was the original server. Poor customer service. Should’ve introduced himself. My guests order was cold. Mine was overpriced and undersized. We sent both back. The new orders were marginal and the “manager” had a poor attitude about their already poor service. Salt in the wound. They tacked on an 18% gratuity for this terrible experience…on my birthday. Awful awful place and poor service.

    Mama’s shelter street level dining room invites you with a lovely scent and friendly staff . The comforting intimate decor creates a relaxed attitude . There were about 7 or 8 entrees to choose from . We chose the spaghetti , snapper and the skirt steak and rice bowl. The average cost per entree is about $35-$40.00. They were not that good . The food did not taste fresh . The spaghetti was terrible . I would recommend Mama’s for drinks and appetizers only . I do not recommend ordering off their street level dining room . Our sever was great and it’s a nice place to have a date or go out with some friends , but not for dinner .

    We went here to celebrate my husband’s birthday and it was a perfect experience. Great food and cocktails, excellent service and a very cool ambiance. The staff seemed like they were having a good time, too. We will be back the next time we are in LA!

    Restaurant served delicious small plates with unique food. The bar also had exceptional food - bao shrimp tacos and baja tacos were incredible! Definitely coming back for the ambience and tasty food!

    The overall decor and ambience was great! However, the food lacked a lot of flavor and value for the price. My husband and I were underwhelmed with all three dishes we ordered. The music was loud and fun, but it was pretty vulgar even though Mama Shelter is known for its bar & lounge.

    We ate downstairs first and Stephanie, our server, was wonderful. The food was great. The ambience was awesome. 5 stars. I would come back again anytime for the DOWNSTAIRS. It was awesome! Then we went upstairs for a drink and while the view is cool, the music was WAYYYYYY too loud, and there were two bad smells, one like something moldy, and two a burning kind of smell like a bad camp fire. Both were unpleasant and actually gave me a headache, so we left. Again, the downstairs restaurant was great! Stephanie was AWESOME. Avoid upstairs if you don't like loud annoying house music and weird smells. :-)

    Very very expensive for all the small portions on the plate. Desert cookies are cold in the middle and heated on the outside. It had just come out of the fridge.

    This place needs to clean the plexiglass that around the roof . The server was nice and honest .The frozen cocktails were terrible .This place is very pricey for just burger $25 . We would not recommend it place ..

    Great ambiance and setting with cool, funky design and decor. Food was good, although a little overpriced. Service was not good. Made a reservation for a birthday and was told “we don’t take bookings, I’ve no idea why that’s turned on”. No table service, you order at the register and take a table number. No itemised bill was offered.

    Rooftop experience:Mediocre food at best, friendly service, but too busy to keep things timely. Loud but there was a party going on. IF the music is going to be loud, make sure the sound and speakers are on point. Great place to go have drinks and fun though

    The staff was the best part of our experience. The food was either cold, tasteless or just not good at all. I was so disappointed with the food that the only reason I’ll come back to mamas shelter is for the rooftop for overpriced Jack in the box $9 fries and a drink. We ordered street corn for $24 and it was literally 3/4 of ONE stalk of corn cut into four pieces with a sauce. The $24 octopus had five little tiny rubbery pieces that were hidden under a bunch of potatoes . The $48 mini steak entree was the only good part. The $35 half chicken has two drum sticks and half a piece of breast. It was a total rip off and they need a new chef and a an entire new menu. Now I know why there were only a few tables with people. No one wants to go spend $300 for bad food. I hope you guys change something

    Despite having a reservation for 3 people the hostess sat 2 other walk-in tables before us. Steak was fabulous - cooked perfectly. Presentation was lovely. I wish it included more vegetables, though. There was only one small roasted piece of kale. Bread rolls were very dry. I wouldn’t order them again. The wagyu slider was ok. I asked for my bill 3 times and finally handed my credit card blindly to the server to ring through. She did not mention that the bills already include an 18% auto gratuity. This was on a table for 3 people. I don’t typically see auto-grat on bills for table of less than 6-8. I found that shocking in itself, but more shocking was that she didn’t disclose that and then watched me tip a further 18%. I didn’t realize until I got home, but the restaurant was quick to rectify that issue when I phoned in and they refunded that additional tip. For the hassle and the fact that I wasn’t overly impressed with the food I wouldn’t go back.

    Nice place. The food is not impressive, house made rolls and the corn cake are very good, apart from that, while it is obvious that they put a lot of effort on the dishes and on creating stuff, there is big room for improvement. We got sharable dishes which promised a lot, however: You cannot call “Spanish Octopus” to an octopus with little or no olive oil, not a bit of peppers, and Andean potatoes… call it california style octopus, but do not set expectations high. The pork belly is good, but definitely could be better, a few more hours of preparation would allow a better taste. The Cambodian street corn has great flavors and ideas (the sauce with lemon grass is very good), however they could enhance it to make it more satisfying.

    I had high hopes for this visit as I've been given good reviews. Reservation booking and checkin was easy. Great host. My table was comfortable and server arrived promptly. We ordered a number of small plates and I had a Bolognese. The server assistant food runner was EXCELLENT. She was prompt and professionally explained each dish. She was a highlight of the experience. My friend were uniformly disappointed in their small plates. Prawns were off, fried mushrooms tasted of oil only, pork belly was ok, tuna carpacio never arrived but was removed from the bill, rolls had no flavor other than the lightest sprinkle of salt. The Bolognese was very flavorful, excellent sauce, but we all laughed out loud at the comically small portion of pasta. I would estimate at 5 oz of spaghettini. If that is the correct portion of pasta, you are over saucing it as I had more sauce than pasta in the dish. Our server did well at the beginning, but disappeared after main entrees were served. We were never asked if we wanted a second cocktail, we were missing an item and he did not catch that at all. There was an auto gratuity of 18% added for three guests and it's cleared he relied on that.

    We ordered $100 worth of food for the two of us and left hungry. That’s not good enough. It’s a casual place with casual ambiance but upscale pricing. Food and service was very good, but very small and light for the price. Please note they do automatically add 18% gratuity to the bill.

    The appetizers we ordered were great! Service was somewhat slow which was interesting to note given that the restaurant was almost empty. Oh well. Craft cocktails were fantastic but a simple well tequila soda (which wasn’t even full) costs the same as a craft cocktails ($18)??? Our risotto was late because apparently they burned it and then took over 25 mins to bring a new one; we asked for them to comp it off our tab and they happily agreed. Over all, the restaurant is meh, the rooftop is fun.

    We had a great brunch for my birthday at Mama Shelter. The restaurant was very accomodating and the food was fresh and delicious. We then headed upstairs to the rooftop bar which was also a great ambiance with good music. Overall loved this spot and will be back.

    This was my first time at this restaurant and while it has a limited menu, I thought the options were enough. It was not quite as I had anticpated. The food was tasty, portions not copious (a good thing) but service was pretty slow. There were only 2 waitstaff so quite understandable but required patience. It didn't blow my mind so I'd probably not revisit.

    The rolls are amazing! I could eat an entire serving myself lol. The drinks were great. The small plate selection could be better- the food was great but a little overpriced. The ambiance is very nice but can get a little noisy. I’ll definitely come back!
