Mama's Boy Ratings and Reviews
I know that this address has a lot of turnover and caters to tourists and suburbanites. Definitely the best part about this restaurant was the genuinely kind and warm host staff.
We selected an interesting Super Tuscan which kept us delighted on our valentine’s date.
Unfortunately, the restaurant is crammed and the cozy red sofa simply takes up too much space. They seated us at a very uncomfortable table that was jostled by wait staff on numerous occasions; we nearly lost our bottle of wine!
Now the food: maybe the worst Caprese salad in the city that should have never been served given the nature of the tomatoes. The polenta/prawn was very rich and buttery, perhaps too decadent.
The plates barely fit the tiny table but I appreciate the large hot pasta bowls.
It took a particularly lengthy time for the table to get turned down but I was in too much of a good mood to mention it.
Ultimately, I’m fairly certain I will not be returning as there are a number of Italian restaurants in the city with better ambience and execution. We may return when It’s yet again a different restaurant. Sorry.
The service is outstanding. This is my third time at the restaurant and I have enjoyed all of my times at the restaurant. The food is great but what I really like about the restaurant is the excellent service from the second you walk in. I will go back every time I am in Chicago.
Went for lunch, place was beautiful but the service was okay. Felt off being there for lunch, place was dead and only one waitress. Seemed like dinner would have been a much different experience. Owner walked around and asked if we needed anything which was very nice. The waitress was not very helpful when asked for suggestions. Food was authentic Italian and ingredients were very fresh. Probably would not go back for lunch again, dinner we would try.
We knew about Rosebud Steakhouse on Walton since I work in the area, but wanted to try some of their other restaurants. This is definitely a place for good, authentic Italian. The food was excellent and drinks great as well. The price was a bit high for Italian, but made sense considering the location. It's easy for tourists to reach if they don't want to go out of their way and visit Little Italy. I'd say it's still affordable none the less and you can definitely have a good time without breaking the bank. And that's considering the fact that I only make middle class wage. I have already recommended to friends. Great time with my wife!
Everyone loved their food. We got the burrata appetizer and it we a great starter. The Brick chicken looked delicious and I loved the lamb ragu that I got. The restaurant had a fun atmosphere. Made for a fun girls night out. It would be a great spot for date night as well.
Everything was perfect from beginning to end. We were seated within minutes and had a cocktail before dinner. Our waiter was very helpful with suggestions for dinner. We had a member of our party that wanted gluten free and our food choices were made gluten free to accommodate us. We had grilled shrimp on a bed of polenta and pork chops that were outstanding. I had a super Tuscan wine selected for me by our waiter that was perfect.
We came here for my daughter's 19th bday.she has always wanted to eat pasta from a cheese wheel.i lookwd up cheese wheel pasta in chicago.mama's boy was the first thing that came up.i called the restaurant to ensure that we could get cheese wheel pasta when we came.i was told that it was available and was given the prices.so that, and the great reviews are what brought us here.we were rather disappointed when we arrived and were told we could only get risotto from the cheese wheel, which none of us like.i feel like this was very misleading and a major let-down for my daughter.i will say the service was impeccable.the ambiance was amazing.the food was pretty good as well.the olive/cheese/bread plate we were given at the start of our meal was a very nice touch.i really appreciated the way we were treated when we were there.i would like to give your restaurant another try when i know for sure we can get the pasta from the cheese wheel.
We were celebrating an anniversary and the entire staff couldn’t have been nicer. The ambiance is wonderful and the food creative and delicious. The best Brussels sprouts we’ve ever had and the risotto dishes were incredible. Thank you for a wonderful experience!!
Split an order of eggplant and salmon with guest. It tasted like chef poured half a box of salt in both of them. Didn't complain to waiter. Just wanted to leave. Drink service was ridiculously slow -- didn't get them till after appetizers but just before entree. Not impressed at all. Will never go back.
Everything was perfect! Our entrees, Risotto and gnocchi, were impeccable! Best Italian I've had in the area. They even brought us back in the kitchen to watch them mix the gnocchi in the largest wheel of parmesan I've ever seen. Service was great. We left fat and happy!
We arrived and were promptly seated. Our waiter was very kind, patient and attentive. We ordered a variety of different dishes and no one was disappointed with their selections. Baked cavatelli, margarita pizza, spaghetti and meatballs, Dover sole were all personal favorites.
We were seated right away, Water, bread brought to the table immediately. However, we weren’t asked if we’d like to order a drink while we viewed the menu and had to ask to get our waiter back. The village salad was quite good. It’s basically a Greek salad. My husband and I both ordered risotto. My husband had the risotto with scallops and said it was excellent. I had the risotto with chicken. I don’t recommend it. It was too salty and just not a good balance of flavors. All in all for me it was an okay experience.
