Meant to mimic an open market, the room is built of white concrete blocks creating an effect similar to the stucco seen throughout Greece. Mamakas is a nod to heritage, history and family memories – the daily trip to the market for ripe and fragrant tomatoes. Visiting a trusted butcher for fresh paithakia, and the local fish monger for the daily catch.
Recipes passed down through generations. Honest Greek fare with a modern twist. Designed to share. Everything just as Thanos’ family has done through the ages.
The food here is OUTSTANDING (& I mean better than in Greece)!
The food is excellent, the lamb is perfectly cooked and they have a lovely leek and feta pie. The food is not over done so the flavours of the food come through. The service is attentive but not pushy, they plan the execution of the meal and it’s wonderful. The place feels alive without being noisy.
Truly fantastic service and the food was both inventive and fresh
One of my favourite restaurants in Toronto!! Never had a bad experience and I have been here about 20+ times in the past 2 years!!
Cute restaurant in a great area! Menu is interesting but portions are tiny and prices are high. Service wasn't great.
Had very positive recommendations for Mamakas. Went with my partner, who had been before. We were definitely disappointed with the meal, something has changed from previous visits, and not positively. Will not be going back in the near future.
The restaurant is great however it is too noisey to be able to talk to people.
Awesome greek food! Been twice and both times they had fresh ingredients and delicious options.
Had octopus and squid. The charred part of the seafood was very burnt and bitter. I suspect the grill was not properly scraped and the leftover char from the cooking prior became attached to my food. Keftedes were also too salty, but better than the seafood.
It was great!
Great food, lovely place to eat a modern Greek meal.
We will be back!
Amazing service, amazing food, amazing decor! Was my first time there and I was pleasantly surprised and amazed with everything!
Excellent food, great ambiance, friendly service
Delicious food, we ordered the lamb chops, the octopus, the Greek salad, dips and the potatoes. Everything was to our liking! Our server was very personable and knowledgeable on all dishes and pairings. Great experience and would return!
Jamal is an angel! Thank you for making my moms first time at Mamakas special.
Love this restaurant serving staff is super friendly and the food is absolutely fantastic!
Dinner out with great friends.
Service was great! Our server was so friendly and helpful. As for drinks, the hydra punch is a unique and delicious blend. My husband liked their gin martini (very strong). We ordered octopus and lamb for mains, and shared them. It’s the best lamb I’ve ever had! The octopus was also quite good but the lamb is the real star for me.
Mamakas is a very authentic Greece restaurant with an outstanding menu.
Food and service were good. Found the noise level a bit high.
Salad was nice, mushrooms too! Good portions. However lamb chops were 4 small pieces 2 of which were burnt. Server didnt ask how i like it cooked and came medium rare. Octopus was burnt as well.
ANY TIME DINING IS SUPERB!!! Just make sure you book long before !!!!!!
Great food and experience! Highly recommend the lamb chops!
Always amazing food and staff! Worth the price!
Service and Food was excellent but the music is too loud
Mamakas was delicious and the bar was a good place to eat.
Went with a business colleague on a Tuesday night. Had a reservation, but at a high top.
It was noisy, but service was prompt and ambiance was good.
Food was outstanding...highly recommend.
I was recommended Mamakas as the best Greek food outside of the Danforth. It is King West meets Europe. Nothing was spectacular on the menu, though the octopus is a must try. The creative combinations may have me coming back. Plus the smell of the bread cooking in the oven. Overall, a pretty good experience.
Sat at counter. Great dialogue with servers. Food was great. Server suggested a cocktail, which was good but $15 for a small drink was overpriced. My mistake- never asked price b4 ordering
Sea bass was delicious but wouldn’t order side of potatoes again. Too heavy and not worth it
Been back several times and will return
Amazing as always!
Mamakas was a delightful spot to dine at. It was my very first time and I must say the food was outstanding. By the time we got through the appetizers I didn’t think I was going to be able to handle the whole grilled fish of the day.
This is a great spot to go to for a date and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to venture out and treat their taste buds to something new.
Love the food. We had just experienced the Easter dinner provided by Agora Catering which was superb. Loved every dish.
Good was v good but expensive so would save for an occasion.
Menu was overall great. The mushroom dish was too vinegary. Not very good.
I write a cautionary tale. The food was very good. The service however paled in comparison. Our server was dismissive, impatient, rushed - and as a result, I would not return. In a city filled with a plethora of truly fine restaurants, excellent customer service prevails. Insult to injury is that they only issue one bill and automatically add an 18 per cent gratuity without prior knowledge. This should be visibly stated on their website. Happy to reward good service, when received. I would not return, nor would I recommend Mamakas.
Very good selection especially if you are sharing with others. a party of 6 would be great so that lots on the menu can be shared. I esp liked the fact they serve Greek wines as an opportunity to try something different
Amazing food amazing service
The melitzanosalata was exceptional as were the short ribs and mushrooms. We were seated at crowded spot so not great. Overall the food was the highlight but the room and value less so.
Delicious food. Very good service but can be very noisy and crowded.
