When our server learned we had limited time because we were headed to a play, everything happened quickly. We really appreciated that.
The place is fairly nice, priced decently with lower and higher menu options. The pork chop was a bit overcooked, but the pasta on the food month special was great. And those potato fritters were tasty. The ambiance was a bit cafe feeling and not upscale but still good enough to being a date. If you get the amaretto cheesecake, you will not be disppointed. Lastly our waiter was great. He was attentive, fast and conversational.
Overall a good place.
Not new and glitzy, Mama Mia's maintains its air of a trattoria in the old world. Linger over the great food and enjoy the welcome music. Melanzana ala Parmigiana best I've had in some time, and the home-made mozzarlla is the real thing!
I have not been disappointed by a visit to Mama Mia, and will continue to return whenever possible. The gnocchi bolognese and fettucini carbonara were molto delizioso, and the custom salmon house salad had just enough salmon despite the server's assertion that it was small and deserved a complimentary dessert. Could not pass up the opportunity and chose my favorite Zeppole which of course were also delicious.
Great ambiance and wonderful food in a beautiful old building in downtown Portland.
The food was delicious, and the service was excellent! Very friendly and warm. Will definitely go back!
Loved sitting up at the bar. Great Happy hour! We went out for Portland dining month and was not disappointed. Great service sitting up at the bar. Friendly staff, great service!
The food was excellent. Some members of my party ordered of the Portland Dining Month menu which offered more choices than most other restaurants who are participating which we loved! Others ordered off the regular menu but we all were extremely happy with our choices. It was the beginning of a great night as we went to a comedy show after but the food was flavorful & authentic!
We came for Portland Dining Month and enjoyed three delicious dishes. The food was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The service was excellent with our waitress transitioning our courses with perfect timing. I highly recommend the amaretto cheesecake with almond biscotti crust, caramel sauce and candied almonds. It was truly the topping to our dinner.
The food was amazing and the service was fantastic. We did the Portland monthly menu. I had the shrimp with pesto risotto. The portions are a really good size. The music they played overhead was fun and a good variety from Italian to modern day music to classical. I would love to come back and have more good food.
I was disappointed that the veggie lasagna had goat cheese in it when online the description said cheese blend. There was too much goat cheese on the menu.
My very picky 13 year-old daughter was delighted with the veal scallopine piccatta, judging it better than 2 out 3 she had in Italy. The accompanying pesto pasta was perfect. My 16 year-old was very happy with her spaghetti and meatballs; the meatballs were exceptionally good. My wife had shrimp over a pesto risotto which was good. I had pasta al arabiata, which needed more zing, but nothing some red pepper flakes and salt couldn't fix; though I would recommend they dial up the garlic and spice in the kitchen.
The minestrone was perfect. The house salad was very good. The bread and garlic bread were good. The house wine (Chianti) was a bit boring, even by Chianti standards.
The limoncello sorbet was perfect.
The check was relatively large for a fairly simple meal, but it was a very pleasant evening all in all, we would go back.
This is a nice family restaurant. Food and service were excellent. My wife ordered and enjoyed the March 3 course special and I feasted on the Manila clams and linguini. If you have kids, this is the place to introduce them to good Italian food.
Seated on time to our reservation. A bit long on the wait for initial service, but once it started it was excellent. Waiter was friendly and attentive, food was top notch. We chose them as part of Portland Dining Month. One of the few restaurants with an extensive selection of different meals. Tiramisu was one of the best we've experienced in Portland.
My husband and I went for our 16th anniversary and the food was amazing! I had shrimp scampi and he had chicken parmesan. I also had an old fashioned and a hot toddy. Yum! Our server was very friendly and helpful. Thanks for a fabulous experience, we plan to make it our yearly anniversary restaurant!
Great food. Great service. Reasonable price. Well worth the drive downtown.
Quality, fresh Italian cuisine served by an expert staff in a delightful environment. Loved every bite!
Wonderful break in our day with customers.
Food was excellent and service outstanding!!!
There is really nothing wrong with the restaurant or the food, coming from the Northeast part of the country I’m pretty spoiled when it comes to Italian restaurants. The Northeast has a large Italian population so we have lots of options. A couple in our party wanted to try Mama Mia Trattoria so we gave it a go. To my taste the calimari was too thickly cut and the sauce was very hot, here the calimari is thin, lightly breaded and served with banana peppers and sometimes a balsamic reduction. Our local fisherman supply a good part of the country with this delicacy. The Chicken Picatta was very nicely done, as was the Carbonara, nothing to complain about here. The Manicotti and Lasagna were large portions but average. The desserts were excellent (tiramisu and lemon cake). As I said earlier there’s nothing wrong with the food here and many will be well satisfied.
Good family choice near the downtown area. Food was good and the staff was very friendly.
I came here for a post-Valentine's dinner and had a great time. Both of our meals were outstanding and the waitress we got was very nice and helpful. Would recommend to friends!
I usually never leave reviews but our experience was exceptionally horrible. Made reservations for Valentine's Day/my date's birthday and the food was bland and flavorless. I've had better sauces out of a great value jar from Walmart. The $19 plate of fettuccine Alfredo was awful and my date’s gnocchi was also pretty bad. Only good thing we had was the waygu meatballs which was $16 for like 3 meatsballs and they made both of us extremely sick to our stomachs after getting home. I'd give it 0 stars if I could. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYBODY.
My partner and I went here for Valentine’s Day in hopes for a great night out. The atmosphere was decent with nice lighting and decor; however, the service was aweful. The woman waiting on us spilled water all over the table and did not wipe it up even after we mentioned it and our appetizer was cold when it was brought to the table. She also made us feel like we were in the wrong to get butter with our bread when we asked if we could have some ( it was obvious that she forgot to bring it). I don’t know any restaurant that doesn’t serve butter with bread. Overall, I would not recommend this place to anyone. The service says a lot about an establishment.
Wait staff very nice
We were sat next to a table with children who let them run wild. This very much impacted our enjoyment of our meal. Also, sitting directly along the path that waiters take to the kitchen, our table moved every time someone walked by as the floor moves slightly.
For the umpteenth time we ate at this great Italian restaurant and this time for lunch. We started with the minestrone soup. My wife ordered their classic lasagna and I ordered the fettuccine bolognese. Both were delicious. The finale was the very tasty connoli.
When there for a birthday evening. We had the Zepoli for desert and it was awesome.
We dined at 4pm on a Sunday just before a Blazer game. It was empty when we arrived and a few came into the bar area while we dined. I had the salmon, which was a generous portion and prepared perfectly. The rice and salad were not remarkable. My friend enjoyed her seafood pasta.
We were travelling from CA to WA, and found this on Opentable. Great find! Great food! Would highly recommend the lasagna. Great ambiance.
Great birthday dinner for son. Always great quality food!
I had veal parm and it was fork tender, perfectly prepared and a huge portion. My son had the Special mac & cheese and it too was amazing. Service as always was spot on. Mama Mia’s remains our families go to for authentic, classic Italian food.
It was mediocre at best, rushed service, lots of kids, kind of like an Olive garden, not that special, and way too salty.
The service was the best I have ever had at this restaurant and it is usually very good.
The Seafood pasta and cannoli were excellent. Nice quiet atmosphere for dinner
A great local neighborhood Italian spot. I was saddened to learn that the VIP Club is going away. Hopefully this establishment will come up with an even better replacement to recognize it's frequent clientele
Great flavors in all of the dishes served. Service could have been a bit more attentive but will definitely return.
I love this place. The food is wonderful, though portions are too large for me. Guess that means great leftovers! The service was attentive but not overbearing and the pace of the meal was just perfect - no waiting too long or having things come too fast. Will definitely dine and bring people here again.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary here with another couple. The food was excellent, and the waiter was attentive and gave good advice. The time it took to get our order out of the kitchen was exceptionally long, with the waiter coming by at least twice to tell us our order would be out "shortly". There was a large party of 10-12 at another table that may have impacted the kitchen. Overall, we enjoyed the evening and would return.
