The food was good, but not worth the price. The wine selection was very good.
We went for Portland dining month and both my app and entree were delicious. Dessert was a little underwhelming but overall good experience and our waitress was very attentive and nice!
Last year four of us deemed our meals excellent. We three ordered from the Portland Dining Month offerings.
This year two ordered from the Portland Dining Month menu. The bruschetta was average. The problem with the cannelloni was salt - way too much in both the cream and tomato sauces. For me it was inedible. A second serving wasn't any better since the sauces were likely from the same batch. My husband also tasted it, so it wasn't just me. The strawberry chocolate cake was good.
While my dinner companions did finish their meals, they also said the salt levels were high.
Service, on the other hand, was excellent from the moment we walked into the restaurant. And though I did not ask for it, my meal was removed from the bill.
I am saddened that I can't give this visit a better rating.
Food was terrific, service was professional without hovering, manager recommended wines and was spot on with his choices! Thanks, Jeff. We made another reservation before we had even finished out meal.
The atmosphere was great. Service was great. This place had the best red sauce I’ve ever had on the cannelloni. You will never find a cheesecake better than the one at this restaurant and I have spent my holidays for the last 6 years perfecting multiple cheesecake recipes. It hurts to say this one puts mine to shame. Eat here!
Great space for business meal. Server extraordinarily accommodating and patient with our large group with multiple checks. Great find in Portland with lots of options on the menu for all types of diets.
The food was too salty. Every meal felt heavy and over sauced.
Great food and friendly staff This is our 3 time eating their from out of state. We will be going back for a 4 th time next time in town
Scrumptious food, great service, ample parking!
Definitely returning!
Average Italian food (
Awesome. Great food.
Very enjoyable meal and great service! I would highly recommend!!
We had a lasagne & a pizza & garlic bread, 2 glasses of wine & the check came to over $90! The food was ok, but just ok. The service was very good.
Food was outstanding, just great Italian, not the latest Portland "super cool"
Pastas were very good; sadly the service by our particular server was not. We’ve been several times to Mama Mia’s and service is rarely great.
The service was wonderful! Free birthday dessert and a free appetizer for booking with open table!
Been to Italy many ties and Mama Mia takes me back there. Great food and wine with reasonable prices. Will be back!
Fantastic food and service. Will come back
Free appetizer was featured but we didn’t receive one. Server was efficient but not particularly friendly. It was a birthday celebration. We likely won’t return for a family celebration in the future.
The restaurant was fire! The service was great and the food was so delicious! Will definitely be back fo sho! Keep that place lit 🤙🏽
First time to dine and very happy with the service and food
The food was great. Took a little while to get, because it was busy. Service was great.
It was simple and easily predictable. The service is outstanding and fast! The food is good but not great, it could use a bit more flavor but instead it was just "eh.fine". I would definitely come back for the happy hour and that's about it.
When we were seated at our table we were informed that we could only be there for an hour and a half because the table was reserved for later. We also had made reservations and my thought was do our reservations not matter? We did not like that we were pressured to dine quickly when we had made our reservations in advanced. Not good customer service.
Great food, friendly staff and excellent drinks. We will return.
We were told we had the table reserved for 1.5 hours when we were seated. That wasn’t necessary and very rude. The lamb shank wasn’t tender and the risotto was chewy.
Our first meal at Mama Mia Trattoria was for Valentine’s Day. The early conflict that we had was trying to reconcile a 4+ rating on Open Table with the easy availability of reservations a few days before a busy restaurant evening. The latter turned out to be the predictor of our experience.
We arrived on time for a 5:00 pm reservation and were taken to a table in the middle of the highest traffic area in the restaurant. We asked if we could have one of the more than seven available tables around the back wall or the windows but we’re told that they were all reserved for people who specifically asked for preferred seating. Assuming that this was an honest representation of the circumstances we accepted the table. But if this refusal to allow us a better table wasn’t enough to set the mood for the evening, we were then told that we’d be served in a fashion designed to conclude our dining experience within 90 minutes. This overt effort to communicate their desire to turn the tables over at a less than romantic pace became unnecessary as the “experience” progressed.
As for the meal, the cocktails and Garden Salads were good. However, we were unable to finish our salads by the time our entrees were served (the original 90-minute pace now seeming like a denied luxury).
The garlic bread we ordered (because no bread was offered with the meal) was soaked in butter. A lactose intolerant person would have asked to be moved to one of the still empty preferred tables.
The entrees were ok but not good. The Pappardelle was a wad of pasta with a Bolognese sauce poured over it and the Fettuccine Alfredo was ordinary at best, curiously tasting of fish.
Not wishing to press our luck or time limit, we called it quits and left after 60 minutes. As expected, the same number of “preferred” tables were still empty.
With so many good restaurant choices in Portland, we’ll not be giving Mama Mia another visit.
Extremely satisfying! Great food, service, and atmosphere. I will certainly return sometime soon…
I would recommend for the food but not for any type of special occasion. I went for mine and my husbands birthday/valentines day. We can't get out much due to having kids. I had an email for $25 gift card. right away the waitress said we had to use it at our next visit. This was very misleading. Then I nothing was done at all for our special occasions. I am not sure why we were asked what we were celebrating if nothing is done. Not even a happy birthday. I was so excited to go out and this made it sad. Luckily the food was good.
Atmosphere..amazing..service from seating to serving was fantastic. Our server Kellie was so patient and offered several samples of requested wines and explained what they could to the vega tarianinze our selections. The only down side that I can come up with is that the Tiramisu (which was still great) was made with Kahlua instead of the traditional Amaretto which I am accustomed to. Overall, we have recommended to several friends already and we will be repeats as well.
Food was great other than meatballs were cold and had to send back to get warmed( or actually cooked). Waiter in bar was very nice and friendly. Definitely recommend.
Delicious food. Wonderful experience. Will definitely go back!
The service was unacceptably slow for the amount of people in the restaurant. The food was mediocre and overpriced. You can get better Italian at the Old Spaghetti Factory.
Great luncheon spot!
Great atmosphere, good food & wonderful service. I just wish that the garlic bread we ordered wasn't so garlicky & the butter was something on the side that we could put on ourselves. The bread was dripping with butter--way too much. Other than that, everything was great!
My girlfriend and I really enjoyed this experience. It’s expensive but worth the money. We both dressed up for a “date night” so we were worried about being overdressed, but we felt comfortable as most people were dressed well. Classy place with great food!
Another great meal at Mamma Mia’s. I love they have gluten-free options (and their GF pasta is very good, not like some places where it can be crumbly). They also have vegan options, I think I saw vegan meatballs on the menu. I also love the atmosphere, which is that of an old-school “Little Italy” Italian restaurant feel that you often find in Chicago or downtown Boston.
Nice staff, huge portions, parking tough, good pour cocktails
Mama Mia is a our favorite Portland area Italian Restaurant. Great food and friendly and attentive employees. A+
I would recommend Mama Mia. Good food good service and relaxing atmosphere.
