Mama Mia Trattoria
Anniversary dinner. Amazing service. Wife comes from Italian roots and it exceeds all expectations!!!
Mama Mia was an excellent experience overall. My parents stayed at Hotel Monaco, and the restaurant is a short block-and-a-half walk toward the riverfront. Food was very good, wait staff was SUPER friendly and considerate, and the price averaged about $18 a plate (which was half as much as the hotel tavern).
We'll recommend Mama Mia to everyone that visits us in Portland.
This was the second time that my wife and I had eaten there. The food was wonderful, the server was very attentive, and finally, they went above and beyond. I called the restaurant about 2 hours before or reservation and asked if it be possible to have a red rose on the table for my wife. The host was very accommodating and went to the flower store down the street and picked up a rose for the table! Super cool!
Overall the restaurant was great. They were able to accommodate our party of 7 and food was good. Warm bread with butter was excellent to start out the Italian meal.
Excellent place to eat.clean and a great staff.delicous
Delicious authentic Italian food. The bolognese and seafood pasta's were both excellent. Server was sweet and attentive.
We always enjoy coming here - food, cocktails, and service are always great!
Excellent food, I had Chicken Picatta with Pesto Pasta, delicious sauce. My husband had Shrimp Scampi, large shrimp and lovely pasta. Our server was very attentive.
Ciopino was a bit too salty and peppery. Just an ok Italian place. Nothing grand by any means?
What you would expect from a traditional Italian restaurant! Very pleased with the menu and service!
This once was a great restaurant..... no more. The food is horrible and service is so so. There are many other great choices for Italian in Portland.
Quick and timely service with excellent food. A nice room to have a meal. Always reliable with a warm welcome.
Great staff very knowledgeable and courteous. Gave information on local spots.
excellent meal with great service. i had pizza, the other people in my party got the chicken piccata, eggplant parm and carbonara and we were all very happy with our meal.
I stopped in with a co-worker during lunch and the server sat us immediately. She was so kind and even boxed up our lunch because we misjudged out time. I ordered the baked penne and my friend ordered the fettuccine alfredo. Both were so delicious and authentic, I cannot stop thinking or talking about it.my other friend who tried the cannoli said it was better than some she had in Rome.
I highly recommend Mama Mia and cannot wait to be back!
Disappointed with our experience. The food was very good (especially the fried mozzarella appetizer and amaretto cheesecake). Even though we were dinning at a slower time (5pm), we made a reservation in advance through Open Table to make sure we'd get to our event on time later that night. We arrived and there were many open tables, yet we were seated at arguably the worst seats in the restaurant - basically in the servers prep area / entry to the restrooms. We had servers passing very closely by our table constantly, to the point that one specific lady (not our server) bumped into my Mom's chair twice and we felt we had to move our drinks from the outside of the table for fear they would be knocked off. Timing of the meal was also rushed, with salads arriving at nearly the same time as the appetizers. All in all, pretty disappointing experience for money (+$130 for two, plus tip). With so many options in downtown Portland, I don't think I will be back or recommend.
Wonderful manicotti, fresh mozzarella in caprese, nice beer selection
Great food, great service and excellent value for the quality food
The food was disappointing and bland. Our waitress wasn't very friendly and only came to take our order and give us our check. I was hoping for more from this restaurant.
Enjoyable but nothing out of the ordinary.
We went here for the Portland Dining Month special. The Risotto with Scallops was AWESOME!! And the Caramel Cheesecake was yummy. The service was great and really enjoyed ourselves. Highly recommend Mama Mia Trattoria!!
Great Italian Food and fantastic service - we will be back!
We noticed Mama Mia when we were walking during the day and ended up making a reservation. We were greeted with a smile and had a nice table. Food was very tasty -great flavors in the linguini arrabbiata and house salad was lovely. Very fairly priced -would go back again
Food was great as was the service. Definitely we will go again.
Great ambiance, service and food. Will definitely return.
Mama Mia used to be a family favorite. We had not been in awhile as we had moved out of state. While in town last weekend we stopped by for dinner. Sadly it was not as I had remembered with most of the food being barely edible. We had gnocchi, risotto, manicotti, lobster Mac n cheese and spaghetti with sausage. The gnocchi was hard like a hockey puck. The risotto was so mushy it could have been sucked up thru a straw. The manicotti was strangely hard while the ricotta inside was dry and crumbly. The spaghetti had a funny flavor. I will say the lobster Mac n Cheese was nice as were the fried Brussels sprouts. It was like the food had been sitting around for hours. We were very disappointed to see a restaurant that we once really enjoyed be so bad:(
We chose Mama Mia Trattoria for birthdays and Portland Dining Month because they offered choices for all three courses. We shared crispy Brussels sprouts, then three had different first and second courses, while the fourth chose from the menu. When it came to dessert, we each chose the lemon cake and because of the birthdays our server (Rachel, who was excellent) brought out a fourth. Everyone agreed that everything we at was delicious.
The food was cold and took a very long time to receive it. We were very excited to try this place for there March dining out month but were extremely disappointed with the lack of flavor and quality of food. We will not be returning.
Our waiter was not that helpful. We visited from Los Angeles. She didn't take out to the time to explain the dishes. The experience was more so "what would you like to order.....I will come back" ..we order she put the food on the table and that was it. She came by once to ask if the food was okay but she didn't seem like she really was asking but as if she had to ask. Overall the food was good, maybe with a different waiter I would've enjoyed the experience and the food more. Probably would recommend.
Great for both date night or casual dinner
Birthday dinner which I thought I included in reservations but not mentioned
food was really not at all good. many better choices for portland march dining month. would not go back or recommend.
We popped in for portland dining month and while the value was obviously great, our scallops were chewy and overcooked. Oddly with the scallops being over cooked the risotto was cold? We also tried the lobster mac which was pretty good. Service was good.
Second time going here, both times pretty tragic. I always like giving a place a second chance but it was about the same as the time before. Mediocre service and food and the most tasteless plates I'd ever seen in a "fine dining" restaurant. Who serves bruschetta on glass salad plates? Not worth it, spend your money at Jake's instead, worlds better seafood fare.
Fantastic service. Were very accommodating to our vegetarian needs. Great friendly staff and a really nice environment.
We arrived for our reservation a little early but were still seated within minutes. Prompt attention from a friendly waiter. Not over crowding us or being pushy but definitely attentive. Food arrived in good time and everything we ordered tasted great.
We were there to experience the Portland Dining Month menu. Every year we research the restaurant offerings and select the restaurant based on the variety of options. Quite disappointed to find that the menu that was posted on the Portland Dining month website for this restaurant had a lot more variety than the one we were given at the restaurant. I mentioned this to our waiter and he empathized but wasn't sure where the disconnect was.
He did comp one of our appetizers which was a classy touch. All in all an excellent experience.
Food was warm, cool, pasta was clumped, bolognese sauce was dry.
Very nice ambiance , but quite loud. Reservation is highly recommended for peak dinner time/weekends. Service was attentive and friendly. Food was great. Amaretto cheesecake is to die for.
Salad portions were small and steak was overly rare for a medium rare order, but that might just be me being picky about the meat. Dessert was great tho!
Our waiter was absolutely exceptional. We followed his recommendations for each course - and we were very pleased. -Bev
